Jughead
Hello there, I have noticed that there are 2 x different interior schemes for valencia blue. - Tan with tan carpet and black with black carpet. Is there any particular set standard or reasoning? Many thanks
Colin Lindsay
In some cars there was a preferred choice at the factory, but you could go for special order in your own preferred choice, or subsequent owners may also change the interior to suit availability or budget. The code for the original will be on the car's commission plate; Valencia blue paint was 66, so the next stamped two-digit number will be the trim, either 11 for black or (I think, from memory) 13 for tan. When I restored my white 1200 I couldn't get a full set of trim in black, so changed the interior to red; it's easy to do in our cars.
Pete Lewis
no just a marketing profile mix of colours , there are purists and , you can have what ever colour you like choices Its the old nutshell of originality or whatever suits bear in mind most colour schemes are to be complementary not confrontational
Guest
Interior trim option was personal choice when purchasing the car new. I have a VB Vitesse with black seating, carpets and trim - looks spot-on with the contrasting colours. On a personal basis I think tan looks naff against blue paint. Pete Lewis
looking through the years tan or black were the only standard production trim options matched with valencia Pete
Jughead
thanks for the replies guys.. yeah i'm painting mine valencie blue.. and trying to nod to the originality etc.. i can't quite decide the tan or black...
Guest
You will certainly decide to go for black in the end, once you have fitted the tan option !!
dougbgt6
Bit harsh! But then I've got a yellow car with chestnut interior and green gauge lights. I used to like greengages, but you don't see them any more, must be Brexit. db

thescrapman
At least with a Valencia Herald you get a Tan interior, with a Mk2 2000 you get New Tan. Who ever thought Ginger was a nice colour for an interior.
dougbgt6
Me? My daughter took one look at my new chestnut carpets and said "Hmmm, ginger" db
thescrapman
Nooo, Chestnut is nice, well compared to New Tan it is.
dave.vitesse
The 'in' colour for trim in the late 1960's early 1970's was Black. Quite a few years ago I had a Mk2 Vitesse paint 19 White the trim Matador Red. Very rare and it look nice. Dave
dougbgt6
Dave, Have you seen Pete Lewis' old Vitesse? Unremarkable exterior, (cactus?) but red leather interior, like a Victorian "house of ill repute" who knows what went on in there?!! db
dave.vitesse
Doug Not Pete's but the Vitesse I had in the late 1960's. Dave
Guest
Hello Dave, Checking the reg number, it looks as though the vehicle is no more - that's a shame. Regards. Richard.
dave.vitesse
Hello Richard, Thanks for checking. I believe it went in the 1970's long after I sold it. I liked the Cactus and Matador combination. Also it was fitted with the overdrive option. Dave
Guest
Agree, Dave, yes a very nice colour and mechanical combination. Have to say the car was looking very decent when the photo was taken. I guess 1x of the usual 2x suspects - written off or overwhelmed by rust. Regards. Richard. Dave Like my Estate, which went from black interior to red (needed Estate seats, had none in black, only red or blue.....) Even the carpets are red with white trim, looks nice against Code 19. BTW guys, be careful with 'Ginger'. My niece is ginger, her mother refers to it as 'Strawberry blonde'.... so for years we called our cat ' Strawberry Blonde' instead of his original name... Ginger.

dougbgt6
No.1 daughter has 4 sprogs and after the birth of each said "Thank goodness it's not ginger!" Imagine the embarrassment when No.2 daughter produced a curly ginge. Who'd have thought that would happen to Mrs McGuigan?
Colin Lindsay
I hope it doesn't look anything like this... Strawberry blonde.... it's the closest I could get to light tan on Valencia Blue...
PeteH
My 13/60, currently undergoing a full body off refurb and originally white. Is definitely having a colour change. So with black interior going back in, choices are ??. At the moment we (the Royal we, you understand) favour blue. Seeing as the colour is going to be non original anyway. I have seen a very nice Metalic Blue from the BMW range. Not that far from the triumph Valencia, which is gathering favour. Not, likely to sit well with the purists I suspect?. I had a mk3 spit that came in Ford "Hawaii" blue, not very good really. It turned Jasmine after a year or so of being on the road. I like Royal Blue (though that is more navy than royal) on early cars. Very up-market. Though late (square tail spit/GT6) cars should be yellow of course.
