Simons3
Had this beauty 10 yrs or so now. Looked like this back then. Drove it for a few years then started a full engine refurb and you know the rest...kids, house move, work commitment (due to kids!), Italian classics and so on. Anyway, got the cover off it last week. Will be mating the engine to gearbox (non overdrive) and refitting it back on the car. I can't remember exactly what i did with the engine, but i do know i fitted a mk3 profile cam, duplex, rebore, bit of head porting and hardened seats spring to mind. I was going type 9 g/box but can't bring myself to take her soul. Maybe one day. I will post more pics of her when i resize the pics i have as they are way too large. My Fulvia is now finished so time can now be spent on the Spitty. Hoping to have an mot on her in about a month to six weeks, so it's all hands on deck! Iain T
Hi Simon and welcome to the forum! I've always had a soft spot for Fulvias (and Flavias) is it a 1300 or 1600? Never owned one but on my wish list for the future. I had a 1500 Spit in the mid '70s with optional hard top. I really enjoyed it but it did need more grunt. An overdrive gearbox makes for easy overtaking, just flick a switch and off you go. Cheers Iain
Simons3
Hi Iain It's a 1300 with twin dellortos and mucho head work. Goes like an HF(1.6) though. I once owned an HF in the 90's albeit a left hooker but sold it (maybe in haste) for house upgrades. Anyway, back to my Spitty. It's the large crank 1300, which i'm told is the slowest of the bunch. Just been looking at exhaust manifolds and full system back. My cast manifold is shot (cracked) I have been googling and see a few triumph specialists stocking mild steel and stainless "upgrades" for reasonable sums. Is there any particular one i should contemplate buying? I'm not a fan of the twin exit pipe version 1, my mate has a stag (he would ridicule) and 2, it may live outside from time to time in the rain. Iain T
I'm no Spitfire expert but if you have done some head work then to get the full benefit a tubular 4-2 sport manifold is a must. Phoenix do systems, I have the 6-3-1 on my Vitesse, and have a very good reputation but not cheap. Fulvia 1300's rev really well and don't they sound nice. I like the interior and boxer engine in the Flavia but Fulvias always look 'chuckable'. Iain
Clive
Phoenix sell a single bore sports exhaust, and the 4 branch manifolds are much of a muchness I believe. But things simplified by buying all from one place. https://www.canleyclassics.com/engine/large-bore-straight-through-stainless-steel-exhaust-system/

Simons3
Thanks guys. So the rebuild is in full swing now (been working away last 2 weeks) Got the engine and gearbox mated and painted her black. Before above and after below Also picked up some goodies for the old girl h4's That rear numberplate light was big bucks. Putting new brake flexis on tonight, air flush and fluid. Sorry, couldn't resist that one. That's a lot of work and a lot of spares to keep you going for a while! If your garage is like mine, look for something else and you'll find the starter. That gearbox tunnel looks very solid - who did it come from?

Got all the parts from James Paddock. I trial fitted it yesterday and with the seal and fitting kit will be much better than the cracked cardboard item it replaces. Got the rear brake hoses on. My god, the existing ones may have been the originals, a right pita. Gonna call it a night now. Up early tomorrow for work 👍
Simons3
Got a few hours on her last night and this morning. Had to grind the exhaust manifold slots slightly to fit snugly with the head manifold bolts. Engine/gearbox are in. New clutch and brake lines I have found the starter but there must be an adaptor plate to mate it to the bellhousing, this needs finding still. One problem i do have is the rocker shaft install. I got new correct sized pushrods, i thought, but when tightening down it's not right. Will dig the old ones out and check length and update. I understand there are 2 sizes. Maybe my head isn't the original.

I have no idea, I emailed the supposed area organiser for West Yorkshire to see if their area meets (as stated on the website) actually take place and never got a reply. I tend to go over to the CT Pendle and Pennine (Barnoldswick) area meets and occasionally the Dolomite Club (Driglington)

Simons3
So just measured the pushrods both new and old 197mm. Guess with the previous head and block work things have got a little tight. Will order some suitable shims for the rocker shaft to compensate

Simons3
More work has been done on the old girl. The new pushrods have been swapped out for the cleaned up originals and hey presto, rocker assembly now fits a treat. There was a difference in length i can now admit.. To do list on engine....waiting for the heated manifold pipe, water pump fitting and nut and olive. Front lifting eye/alternator bracket. A pair of air filters and a new sump plug as original has been rounded off. New clutch master cylinder, the original is seized solid. Got a few pictures here Rear bumper back on sporting its' new number plate unit. Exhaust system now on the car too. Front suspension all done. New rear shocks and trunnions. I will clean up and underseal the arches at a later date. I have done the boot underside before the exhaust went on though. Engine bay panels on This needs swapping out. Radiator and u frame in. Can anyone advise where the overflow bottle sits please? For now i am going to live with the tired interior. I will be in touch with Parklane in the near future though and will probably go inertia seatbelts too. A quick question for you experts if i may I have an original type radio lw / mw, where do i mount the speaker/s? I assume by the gearbox tunnel as there is no provision in the doorcards. Not looking for 6x9's amps and subs. Just an oem look. Hoping to get this car up and running with an mot by next Friday, fingers crossed. Thanks for looking. yorkshire_spam
Not sure about "standard" fitting for speakers, but mine (unused as I don't have a stereo fitted) are in the panels behind the seats (Described as rear quarter panels on Park Lane Classics website I think) pictured here on rimmers site: https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID005963
Colin Lindsay
Are you allowed to have clutch and brake lines touching like that? (Bit on the bulkhead with cable tie holding them together) I always believed they had to be spaced apart to minimise damage from rubbing?

Colin Lindsay
Just being a critic, Simon, as it's easy from the comfort of a warm study... Last thing I want, after all that hard work, is a simple fail on the MOT that has you head scratching and thinking "Why didn't I see that?"
