NonMember
It's not at all uncommon for new springs to be too long and/or too stiff (or even to have the same part supplied for Spitfire and GT6). Sometimes they "bed in" but if not, the only fix is to get the right springs. Fiddling with the anti-roll bar or any of the other bolts is unlikely to have any effect.
Josef
Also remember you’re short doors, seats, hood and so on so you’ve not yet put the full weight of the car on the suspension.
Pettifordo
Let’s see what happens as we get the rest of the stuff on - as @Josef says I have more weight to add yet and let’s hope the do “bed in” as @NonMember says. I just expected it to sort itself once the engine was in and then when the bonnet was on…..anyway it has many months to “settle” before it actually gets used 🤣🤣🤣
AlanT
Mine was high when stripped out. All the fittings in, plus settling, and it will be fine.
Pettifordo
Rear bolts for chassis now in with the rubber washers and aluminium shims (rear ones only) - I can’t tell you how pleased I am with this bolt being in having decided to cut out the old suspension tunnel and weld in a second hand one Also got the last part of the rear suspension attached (the red bar) and the hand brake cable sorted (glad I fitted the rear part of the cable in the hour before the team arrived to put the tub on ! Welding inside the wheel arch not looking pretty but it is strong Final job today was putting the passenger door on - and I pretty pleased with the results I’m seriously thinking about keeping the BRG and just patching in where I need to as it seems pretty rust free…. Josef
The red bar is a tie rod. It controls how much toe your rear wheels have. As you’ve had the body off the chassis (and had to repair the heelboard?) then you’ll need to check your wheel alignment and possibly add or remove shims under the bracket that bolts to the heelboard. Including a lot of hours of positioning, cutting and welding to fit the Mk1 hinges to a Mk3 chassis front cross member it was £3,500 inc VAT. The owner is Gaz and his customer base is largely upmarket Porsche / Lamborghini etc so quality is good. Worth going to see him with photos. I deliberately didn't ask for perfection because the body panels have many flaws but I am delighted. Photo is from the day I collected it.

Pettifordo
Making some progress with getting bits on the engine and a working steering wheel - could anyone share photos of the standard 1500 carb set up so I can figure out how to connect the throttle and choke 👍👍

AlanT
Don’t forget the heat shield that sits between the manifold and carbs as fuel vaporisation / stopping is certain!

Pettifordo
Spent ages today installing new lights to the front…..very frustrating as they had been advertised as being for a Spitfire but they wouldn’t work with the headlamp surrounds 🤣🤣 They are ok for now - the front valance was easier as was the radiator and fuel tank. Carbs on tomorrow now the air filter is painted 👍
Josef
Be aware if you’re still planning on sending it for paint, there’s a non zero chance of ending up with overspray and the filler dust will get everywhere. So I’d not go too wild with fitting everything up cause taking it all back off again to re-clean it is rather irritating! Speaking from experience! I then plan to enjoy it next year and then plan from there……🤞🤞
Pettifordo
Too hot to do the carbs today - so I finished off some of the body work prep ready for brush painting the bulkhead tomorrow and also fitting carbs !!

Pettifordo
Been away for a few weeks but back on the case now. Fitting the exhaust was harder than expected !! The new exhaust manifold and the old twin pipes didn’t want to play nicely together - welder sorted it out in the end in a forced marriage 🤪🤪 Carbs next 👍
Pettifordo
Carbs on and dashboard back together. Next job is the clutch / brake master cylinders etc Then a battery 👍 Anyone have any idea which the tacho is reading 1,200 rpm ?? Also what does the red switch on the right do ! Piglet
Your idle speed may need adjusting and the red light is oil pressure. It should go out after a few moments. Alex
johny
errr dont think the engine runs yet (no battery) and the 'red light' is that switch on the right hand side...

And, as johny has said, neither of them is a switch 😝 3 hours ago, Pettifordo said: Anyone have any idea which the tacho is reading 1,200 rpm ?? Possibly because it's one fifth as knackered as the one Colin's recently acquired? 😉
