  1. I took my 2.5 Vitesse CV to just over 100mph once, only once.It felt like the back end wanted to come round and the front was lifting. With a tuned 2.5,o/d box and 3:27 diff I think it could easily do 120 + but not with me driving. S
  2. They fit over the seal but not flush as the side is deeper and hits the Herald floor, god knows where I got them. Maybe my old mini I sold in 1985. S
  3. Clearing my garage out I came across these ali trims, can't remeber where they came from or how long I've had them. Anyone identify them?, I have a Herald and a Vitesse CV. Some sort of door seal cover obviously. S
  4. I wouldn`t worry too much, my 2.5 Vitesse has the filter at 8 o clock and gives instant pressure on start up and no rattles I can detect, It has only done 15k miles from rebuild though. I use Valvoline VR1 and Fram filters common on Fords back in the day I believe. Steve
  5. I believe the longer bolts are there to allow shimming out of the hook for bonnet adjustment. I need to do this on my 13/60. S
  6. Are they the same as Dunlop LP923?. As fitted to my Herald. S
  7. The modern offerings from the usual suppliers are rubbish, they last about 20mins before becoming intermittent. At least mine did on the Vitesse. Going to try and rebuild the old one. S
  8. This is a new Dab unit,I opened it up, no fuses. Steve
  9. Thanks Nigel, The only fuse on the outside is an in-line one for the main feed. Would there be internal fuses?. It`s out of warranty so it doesn`t matter if i take it apart. Steve
  10. I have classic looking DAB radios in my Herald and Vitesse, Both using the dealer option housing and speaker on top of the tunnel, the Vitesse recently started giving intermittent sound which has progressed to no sound. I tested the radio on the kitchen table with a spare speaker I had from on old Peugeot I used to have, no sound at all, the radio display and function is all normal. Peugeot speaker had 3.5 ohms across it. Today I measured the resistance on the old speaker as the supplier said it should be around 4 ohms. The speaker has a dead short across the connections. I had a spare original one In the shed so I measured that, 3.2 ohms, swapped them over and it works in the Herald, but the Vitesse radio has to go back to the supplier as It looks like the speaker short has killed the output. So I wondered, how is the speaker constructed and where does it get the resistance, Is there a coil in there?. Steve
  11. Obviously the Vitesse 2.5, I've owned it since 1985. Steve
  12. The filter on my Passat is on top of the engine next to the rocker cover and is fully inverted, never heard any rattles which I suppose is an advancement on a 50 year old straight six.I know which one I prefer though. Steve
  13. I will check when I am at my lockup, mine is fitted to the block with a thread adapter for the Mann one, don`t know which thread your spin on has?. One word of note, the Mann 714/2 was the subject of posts somewhere on here when after an oil change they could not get pressure up. I believe I have read this from 2 people, I had 2 714/2 on my shelf to try on my Vitesse to get less of an angle on the filter as they are smaller, but abandoned the idea after reading this, I stuck with the Fram ones I use, works fine. Steve
  14. No idea of the pressure drop, (tin hat on) I have the dreaded external oil feed restricted to less than 1mm for the Goodparts roller rockers, it makes 60PSI hot at about 2.5k revs, I use Valvoline VR1 20/50 with an uprated oil pump. S
  15. The same as my 1500 Herald position, although I use a modern Mann filter which supposedly has an anti drain valve, doesn`t make any difference, I just spin it over with no choke until the oil light goes out. S
  16. I had to tow my Passat to a garage recently as the clutch hydraulics failed (Second time), Bought a metal 3 part tow pole from Toolstation, Similar to the one the AA use. Takes the stop start and braking jerks away you get with a rope. Not sure where you could hook it on a Herald though without a rope link. S

    Spark plug colour

Shame definitely sounds like a failure between 3+4, I am only 5 mins from you in Egham if you need a second pair of eyes on it. Steve
  18. Top of No.2 doesn`t look too clever. S
  19. Wins are great, found me 2 missing felt seal housings for my Herald front suspension rebuild for about a fiver. S
  20. Here is the back, the arm moves up under the rear of the radio. Steve
  21. Hi Casper, Not sure what the cage should look like but I am sure mine is original,I will get a photo of the back of the speaker. Steve
  22. Funnily enough I am just refurbing the one from my Vitesse. S
  23. I got the complete ownership history on my 1968 Vitesse some years ago when the DVLA still provided it. The original owner from 1970 (18 months as a demonstrator) had an unusual name and i managed to track him down and wrote to him, he called me and was delighted it was still on the road. Steve
  24. I don`t, I have enough worry checking the oil pressure gauge. Its got Bosch 3 prong plugs so If they look ok and It`s running well I leave it alone. Pretty good on economy If you don`t have a lead right boot. S
  25. Can`t agree with that,my tuned 2.5 Vitesse putting out 172BHP on 2 x HS6 carbs setup on a rolling road runs great through the range, even on tick over with a TR5 Cam and 10:1CR. Standard dizzy at present but soon to be a 123 Tune. Steve
