  1. That won`t work with the filter angled downwards, much easier to get hold of it with the grips. Steve
  2. I checked my grips,Halfords own brand and straight. Steve
  3. Hi Iain, My car is in a lockup about 20 minutes away so i can`t get a picture, but yes i got straight grips, I think from Halfords but memory could be failing. The filter is fitted at as much angle as i could get towards the chassis to allow removal of the filter without disturbing the housing. I can get the grips on the filter to start unwinding it no problem. I guess some filters are longer than others but the ones I use are fine and sit about 45 degrees. As i said I don`t gorilla it that tight anyway as it`s unnecessary. Steve
  4. Ghengis Khans ULEZ zone will put paid to many of these runs, the Mini one is reported as likely to be the last by the organisers as many are not exempt. S
  5. I only put a smear of oil round the seal and fit it hand tight (with latex gloves on) and that suffices. S
  6. Had a spin on filter on my Vitesse since 2009 when the new engine went in,fwiw i use Valvoline VR 1 and Fram filters from an Escort and have great pressure from cold start instantly and when hot.It sits as Johnny says at about 7-30-8 o clock. For removal i have one of these and its a doddle to change:
  7. Maybe not,my Vitesse was off the road from 1988 to 2008. Steve
  8. I bit the bullet and fitted BCC 4 pot calipers to my Herald during the front end rebuild. Along with a Vitesse master cylinder the brakes are a lot better than the standard type 14`s and take a lot less effort to stop. They fit on the original mounts but the backplate needs trimming a bit with tin snips. They come with EBC pads but i will be getting Mintex 1144`s for them. S
  9. Hope all your time and effort is appreciated Pete.👍 S
  10. Nowt wrong with SU`s if they are setup properly, had HS6`s on my 2.5 Vitesse since 2010, set up on a rolling road and not touched since aside from tweaking the tickover a bit. Steve
  11. I have always used this company for anything to do with filters, coolers etc. I believe they supply some retailers. https://www.thinkauto.com/ Steve
  12. Sounds exactly like my Herald on the 2014 RBRR, we found the cause was the small fuel link pipe under the rear of the chassis pulling in air, replaced at stupid o clock in a layby near Aberdeen using just a scissor jack. Fine after that. Steve
  13. It is, re-planting forests would be a great idea, but it will not happen because as Colin says, there no money in it.(unless you run a tree planting carbon capture scheme). The clamour for land and resources is exponential for the population increase, and economic growth of some areas of the earth, and that ain`t changing anytime soon. So put a little sticker on your planet killing classic, but don`t pretend it will make difference to the UK`s goose fart of emissions. S
  14. My 13/60 is back on the road after a front suspension rebuild, driving it at the weekend i thought the steering felt heavy, i had driven my 2.5 Vitesse the day before and that felt lighter compared to the Herald. The Herald has trunnionless uprights now but that shouldn`t make it heavier to steer should it?. The rack is the original from 1968,as is the shaft and joint and although I greased it and put new gaiters on, maybe it`s tired?.It definitely needs a shaft bush as the wheel moves around in the column a bit. Looking for new ones, there are Herald, Vitesse, quick racks, recon or new etc. Any recommendations on which one would be best?, the car has a 13 inch Mountney wheel and 5.5J steel wheels with 175/70 tyres set at 30Psi. Cheers Steve
  15. Great film on TPTV footage detectives today of a skid pan with various cars, including a Herald convertible 9138HP. Long gone on the dvla but a good watch. Steve
  16. Did about 40 miles in My Herald today, first time out since the front suspension rebuild and new brakes etc, need to raise the front a touch but so far so good. Had to renew the agreed value on both my cars as it expired on 1st Feb. Steve
  17. I would e mail them direct in Holland, I did when I had an issue with the usb board on one i had fell off. They were helpful. S
  18. Got an Aldi one delivered today,£14.99 and it looks really good, and it is dual scale.Made in Austria with a 3 year warranty, Steve
  19. Replaced the rear cylinder and shoes last Friday, had a go at bleeding today. Gave up on the Eezibleed as whatever I tried I couldn`t get a good seal, just succeeded in spraying a fine mist of fluid around. In the end I used an 8 foot length of 2 x 2 wood to press the pedal whilst I undid and did up the bleed valves, seems to have worked. I can say the new BCC 4 pot callipers seem to be a big improvement in braking, time will tell. Steve
  20. I had a 305 Van 1.9D non turbo, it was fantastic, drove it all over Europe when i worked for Cisco, died at 200K due to suspension failure. Chap i bought it from was a Farrier, apart from the smell of Horse S**t it was brilliant. S
  21. I decided to use the old cap to drill as the new one looked better and fits perfectly, there is a dimple in the centre of the cap with an air hole in it, I drilled just off centre and fitted the pipe there, it has 2 copper washers either side of the cap and nut, I will try it to make sure it seals. I sealed the air hole with mastic. When I visited to lockup to get the old cap off I noticed the master cylinder was empty, a week ago when I adjusted the handbrake cable and put the drum back on I filled the MC up. Bugger, where that has gone I will have to investigate, I suspect the rear wheel cylinder might be leaking as I stupidly pumped the pedal not realising I still had the drum off and the cylinder piston popped out of the body. Pushed it back with swan neck grips. Steve
  22. Thanks UK, new one delivered this morning, quality looks pretty good so i will compare it with the original one, I am a bit loathed to drill the original so I will probably use the new one for the Bleeder, car is in a lockup so i will check it later today,. Steve
  23. Mine has had silicon fluid for over 10 years so should be ok. Ordered a spare cap from ANG parts, will modify the least best looking one for the Eezibleed as both my cars have the same MC. S
