  1. Did it have oil in it or dry?, I would be tempted to put a drop of oil in each bore.If everything was liberally oiled when built it should be ok. S
  2. Or Mick Dolphin and Chic Doig have joined forces. S
  3. I would say for the gearbox, sounds ok if the gears can be selected when the engine is off,has it had regular oil changes or is it noisy?. Clutch would have done well to last 100k miles,my Vitesse only lasted 15K.Pretty straight forward swap.Check the hydraulics at the same time. S
  4. They are supposed to move freely as one end is spring loaded, however I have the same wheel on my Vitesse and the hole was too small and needed fettling. No need to take the wheel off. S
  5. Blackline is Chinese ATB Diff.I have one. S
  6. Sadly some of the new ones are rubbish, I had 2 fail within months on my cars dumping fluid into the drums. S
  7. Where in the South East are you?,I,m in Surrey and use an old school garage that may be able to help with your welding. Steve
  8. Germany has already pushed the date back as they realise the implications for job losses is huge, common sense may break out here but it may be too late. S
  9. Interesting report on the news today that said some older style multi storey car parks could collapse under the extra weight of electric vehicles if they get more common. That`s progress for you. S
  10. I wouldn`t rely on the timing marks, take the plugs out, rotate the engine until NO 1 is at TDC on the compression stroke, put your thumb over the plug hole as it rises and you should feel compression. Then get the rotor arm in the right position, pointing just before no. 1 lead ,then make sure the leads are in the right order on the dissy cap looking anti clockwise. 1-3-4-2. It should run if you have spark and fuel. Steve
  11. Have you got a new pump or the original ? most new ones put out too much pressure, up to 6psi when you only need about 1.5 -2 for SU`s. I believe you can use spacers on the pump mount to relieve the arm a bit giving lower pressure. If you have new floats and Jets (do you mean float valves?) try removing the float lid and closing the valve with your finger and see if you can blow air through it, if not it must be too much fuel pressure. Steve
  12. If you get Triumph code 19, be aware there are 2 variations, an early one which is more creamy and a brighter later one which is more bright White. This is my Herald which is the earlier Creamy one. Steve
  13. Hi Sue, I had 2 instances of this on my 13/60 at separate times. First when i got it back on the road after 30 years in a garage with the previous owner. It died on one of the first drives out, no fuel in the carbs, I took the pipe off and blew down it which cleared it. It kept happening so i had to remove the tank, It was crusty inside and floating debris was blocking the pickup intermittently. I cleaned it out as best I could and then used tank sealer which you pour in and slosh around and leave for 4 days to cure. It`s been fine for 9 years so far. Second time was misfiring under load, this turned out to be failing rubber pipes sucking in air. Now replaced with Gates Barricade. Steve
  14. No special relay for the flashers,I was surprised the original flasher unit still worked. At first when I tested the indicators all the rear lights flashed, found it needed a good earth to work properly.Yes negative earth. S
  15. Nice car, you will need the sunroof. I put LED stop, tail and indicators on my Vitesse, good improvement, I didn`t bother with the head lights as I think they are fine. S
  16. I fabricated a Vitesse system on to my 1500 Herald, it does have 4 into 1 manifold though, makes a good rasping noise and goes well. Just fitted fitted 4 pot callipers to aid braking as well. S
  17. Well done Colin, looking good. I tried to adjust the height on my 13/60 bonnet last Sunday and ran out of threads on the cone, must be a crappy repro one. Steve
  18. No particular experience of MK 3 but they are supposed to be more punchy than others,I would suggest getting everything optimised would be a good start, points, condenser, timing, carbs setup etc. Should be emminently driveable. Dont start throwing "upgrades" at it as you will end up going backwards. Mine don`t like it if you don`t use them so I would always recommend more use if possible. Steve
  19. I`m pretty sure that non vented cap will not help the PCV to work correctly, but as Iain says check the rocker vent is clear as well. Steve
  20. Hi Colin, I have the same on both my Herald and Vitesse with an adaptor for DAB.Where is yours mounted?, mine are sort of on the corner in line with screen pillar and the lower part goes down the recess at the side where the cover trim is so no interference and no cable showing. Steve
  21. Where is oil spurting out?, unusual to have that much at the top unless as Pete said the breather is completely blocked. Does it smoke from the exhaust?. Might be worth a compression test. S
  22. There will likely be a braided pipe coming from near the oil pressure switch above the filter which goes to a banjo bolt on the back of the cylinder head. If not get a photo of the whole engine from the side. Steve
  23. Does it have an external oil feed on the back of the head?, this can cause too much oil in the top of the engine. Unnecessary on most engines. Steve
  24. I see you have HS6 carbs on a Long tract manifold,is this a 2.5 engine?, if not I would remove the little filter and put it back to standard. Steve
  25. Try Wins in East Grinstead for loads of second hand spares. https://www.winsinternational.co.uk/ Steve
