  1. the pressure sprayer can is easy to use, gives a good coverage and easy to direct so you dont spray the walls or the drive brushing is not good for a sealed coverage and takes for ages in comparision just searched they dont list the sprayer i have ,which is similar to a plant sprayer with a wand. with a vertical air pump if you get a compressor buy a shutz gun excellant for wax or anti drum spraying Pete
  2. yes its a crush tube , so you do the bolt up to the book figure of 22-28lbft , that is only achieved when the tube is clamped solid between the legs of the bracket it may be forced to rotate under some extreme forces but in normal use its static, its the elasticity of torsional twist in the bush that allows any movement of the wishbone, hence the need to tighten when on the deck at kerb weight well something like that Pete
  3. Theres some good clues from marcus, another way to assemble case and rear bearing without the split collets leaping out when you tap the bearing in is Bit of hard wood in a vice with hole for mainshaft spigot or old input shaft, protect the spigot with case and mainshaft held vertically lower onto support you can then tap the bearing down the mainshaft and into the case without the gears jumping up as you tap , gravity holds the gear ontop of the collet thrusts , sounds a bit of a hand full but this works ,
  4. Why wont this silly tablet thingy never type what the key board says fat fingers or just done tomaid the insanity
  5. The little unit I have certainly is a right racket , frightens evryone when it runs but its small very portable but not for serious use , and I just use it with my tyre inflator these days I had a enormouse unit rescued from the factory as all have said relatively quiet but took up too much space so it went , and the noisy tiddler does the odd job now one thing to add if spraying is a air drier and moisture dump , if yoy rjn power tools you need a line oiler but not for paint. we fitted a truck air brake drier in the compressor outlet to keep the air dry. pete

https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/cht381-3pc-hss-stepped-cone-drill-set/vailable available in many places Cone cutter cuts a hole tomthe depth of somewhere up the cone stepped cutters have sized cutting diameters arranged from small up in a cone shape to large so one tool can makenholes from eg 8mm up to 20mm needs a battery or power drill to spin tehm, they make a neat smooth bole thro sheet metal great for grommets etc better than a nasty hole saw but the box sets in aldi when stocked are only a few £ and last for ever

M, thats a good point about the studs, theres a good chance the bolts have bottomed out and thats stripped the mazack casting always useful keep a look out in aldi lidl for cone cutter or step drills great for making the holes you need for easy access. places like screw fix do them as stock but 4 times the aldi prices
  8. ive had a http://www.screwfix.com/p/impax-im200-12l-12ltr-compressor-230v/15318 for a few years , not tried it at spraying , paint , have used a sandblast kit , or impact wrench as i use battery ones , its pretty noisy, impact wrench needs high pressure and hi volume , so ok for short bursts never use a small 10mm bore pipe on a impact gun spray needs hi volume low pressure so better suited i guess. depends on the tank size youre looking at and how much you intend to spary i used a waxoyl hand pump pressure canister to patch up any areas ,just keep it in a bucket of hot water and it doesnt need thinning down just some idea's Pete.
  9. Paul your gearbox looks good and quiet .......with a host of spares inside for when you need them ha ! Pete
  10. Most triumphs are in neutral .... and fiddle a little generally the reverse pivot wont remove enough without a mainshaft out dont you just luv it . this just confirms my hate of the factory manuals, divisive bit of info is always ommited. last time I did any single rail work was on a Marina in the 70s pete
  11. Do the easy first remove the wheel and drum , is there a prolem with the shoes or return springs or drums has been fouling the back plate you only need a puller if you want to remove the hub flange to remove the shaft in order to examine the hub bearings which are a single row ball race and some needle rollers that keep the trunion parralel to the drive shaft these get worn and can make a racket often the needles wear the shaft pete
  12. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Vitesse-Stag-2000-wheel-trims-/112307787284?hash=item1a2610d614:g:1QcAAOSw~AVYqHUJ theres some going cheap on the bay

I guess the common sizes would be 2BA 3/16" unf No 10 unf 1/4" unf in countersunk and cheese heads as for suppliers .....yellow pages look local for bolt suppliers some still have unf in stock pete

When you say wont tighten is this because they are now pretty much stripped in which case a tap up a size or even some metric will reform enough thread whithout going too big aldi have metric sets in our local . pete

most loctite products will undo, there are grades of loc available from normal to supaserk most std thread lock will undo without needing a gorilla with spanners this leads to the other question is why do you need it ??? pete
  16. with luck depends where you buy the poly bushes they come with a sachet of a paste./ powdery type grease to use on the bushing. Pete
  17. The bush will pivot about the tube insert this tube is clamped by the pivot through bolt it does not and should not be moving and does not need any lubrication other than to improve / resist corrosion of the bolt only fully tighten the pivot bolts when the car is on the deck at its static ride height Not hanging off a jack or un bodied. pete
  18. All Filters , fan belts, ep 90 gl4 for top up trans and trunnions., carb diaphragms, fuel pipe hoses , add a fuel filter, drain old fuel out and refill with 97/99 super whatever engine oil in a squirt can to lube all moving linkages, throttle and door locks etc.. Check screen washer ......MOT pete
  19. Look at the drive shaft , is it bent, this can oscilate the trunnion and the spring eye does a lot of unwanted movements. think this is an outside the box problem props goes at engine speeds and wheels 4 times slower that should point any transmision vibes is is vava room or round and round we go the only knock from a diff is loose crownwheel bolts catching the bearing caps, or a really naf tooth failure Drive shafts uj are notorious for knocking but its a a knock or a clicking, does change on cornering loads as you have noticed. if you get her up and can replicate the noise use the old screwdriver trick as a stethoscope to home in on the epicentre but hanging drive shafts can foul on the chassis ...noisy pdte
  20. agree many parts expanded views are open to interpretation problems , the tech illustrator never had to rebuild or mix and match same as the Triumph WSM the one clever bit of basic clue you search is always ommited hope it all goes to plan. Pete
  21. As far as I know three rail reverse spacer tube goes to the rear of the gear up against the tail hsg or od adaptor plate its one part that always wants to fall out throuhg the hole in rear of the case when re assembling I have found single rail 1st 2nd sleeves fitted to 3 rail boxes and this wont work as they have different numbers of teeth, and the hubs a loose fit on the mainshaft i must have some in the shed , but you could remove the tail hsg. Swap the bush to the rear engage reverse and measure the depth from rear face to gear and cut you long spacer to suit just an idea pete
  22. Have you checked the brake drums for runout causing rotational noise contact with the shoes ? Or the back plate??
  23. You have rebuilt everything and the noise effect is unchanged so its something else you must check the tyres , if its got the whomp whomp feeling , and its whell rotational speed its the black round things that aint round anymore its a suprisingly common problem pete
  24. One common denominator is the tyres if the banding has a problem it can look nice and round to the eye but when driving the tread takes on a lobed effect causes chaos, need someone to look whilst you drive past or get followed To see if it rolls correctly or flops the tread or goes wonky sorry cant describe this in words pete
  25. sound like a job for a stepped or cone cutter aldi have good ones from time to time Pete
