    'Swinging the lead' infers loafing about/shirking work, whereas 'Swinging the lamp' is story telling (true/false/somewhere in between). Getting withdrawl symptoms here, but despite having left 'active' service 16 years ago, and duties as an Admiralty Trials Master about 9 years ago I still appear to be in demand mentoring senior warfare courses; for free but they do buy me a drink and lunch.     Sure the seafarers among us have nautical tales that few would understand/believe and in a language /dialect beloved of those of us who lived that life.     Totally agree, 45C in mine to/from Silverstone; but do not wear shorts under any circumstances (tunnel heat!). Dick

    John, Not quite for the seafarers out there. Knots (Kns) for Nautical Miles per hour, which is different to Kts (normal, whatever that is) and of course a nautical mile is different to a statute mile the one in everyday land lubber use and the Data Mile. That of course is before you get to cables (200 yds) or shackles as a length of anchor cable (chain) which is 15 fathoms.     Sue, Bad luck, but it happens. I know the orientation is different but I had an issue with the GT6 and fuel supply that kept getting worse. Peering in to the tank I could see something that did not look right and managed to hook out a piece of plastic about an inch square that was floating about. Assume it was something stuck a fuel filling nozzle or .... Dick

    Only time I use mine in anger is to get a bit more cooling water through the system when stuck in Classic Le Mans traffic. Rest of the time SOP is both rears and driver's window open! Dick

    John, Actually a 'Master Gunner', who had a Gunner's Mate as his underling to look after the Gunner's Party. Pedantic I know but as I qualified as Master Gunner in 1974..... Even more disconcerting is that my first, short, appointment was as the Master Gunner of HMS VICTORY where one of my claims to fame was escorting HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother to the heads which were in a block ashore! There is more to that tale but the rest is reserved for a shoreside dit. Dick ps Is that thread drift or what.....🙂

    I have been with Peter James through the TSSC and the recovery man from the AA was very professional and 'understanding' of a classic. Dick

    Albeit for a GT6 John Thomason's 'Guide to Originality' says " ...the AC Delco type of oil filter was identified by its plain, silver painted bowl." Dick
