  1. I love a good rummage through old parts. Stop it!! Been having to just go through my own! Although the bay is ok its not like the real thing.
  2. Was thinking more like a brake flare to aid the pipe staying on under pressure.
  3. A hopefully quick questions. I have a stainless waterpipe hopefully on its way to me as my steel one was leaking. 1. Should i pre clamp the olive using a spare waterpump housing prior to fitting? 2. Should i use ptfe tape to aid sealing like you would on household plumbing? 3. If possible should i flair the two ends where the rubber hose goes or will they be alright? Thanks Mathew
  4. Thats good, does out in the car include siting inside in the garage otherwise i have not!
  5. Got to take it out first, so could be neutral! We have to have air fed masks at work, due to the nasty fumes made by welding steel. 99.7 percent is stainless welding with tig at work.
  6. Never had one either, never changed one before. Did think about freezing the flywheel to aid but no need, as you found it fell on, in position. You do need make sure you put it the right way round.
  7. Can't believe it, found an exhaust gasket in a head set for a spitfire!, saves a trip out . Still have to wait for the stainless water pipe You will also note a 1500 stainless pipe above, but another olive and new nut!
  8. Thats whats on mine, no idea what the markings mean.
  9. Gone as far as i can, all together apart from starter motor, the water pipe under the manifold (hopefully posted tomorrow) and exhaust that i need to get manifold gasket. Even got some new pedal rubbers fitted!
  10. Is a 3.89 18 then pete? , if the speedo is under reading it needs to be fixed. No mater what the ratio. Otherwise your in danger of speeding with all the danger that could entail.
  11. Never get back to the early to mid nineties high!
  12. Just looked back at the photo's. The ring gear was already pushed forward when nigel had it, i should have noticed. Lesson learned, and the punishment is to redo. So at least i did not push it forward when bolting the starter on. Why it was only just on we shall hopefully never know. Nigel i am still glad i got it 👍.
  13. Definitely new olive, nut and adapter were fine, new hoses and DPD dispatch, hopefully sent before end of play monday fingers crossed 🤞
  14. If your lucky, what a waste of money if you have a bit of welding to do!
  15. The ring gear, taken off with a bit of heat, flywheel let to cool. Heated ring gear and it slipped on. Then left overnight. Anoying used my last exhaust gasket, will i get away with some firegum joiner as the gasket is still stuck to the manifold. Will still be imobile as just put the order in for the stainless water pipe that runs under the manifold with chriswitter .
  16. Testing done, all seams ok. Plugs out and engine wedged. I could not move ringgear with my hands and it stayed in place with several starts. Cup of tea and the great put back together begins again 20210418_103719.mp4
  17. 10.2 bolts are available. It always amazes me in the search for bling on a car some people dont consider the purpose of the bolt. A few years back on a different make's forum they were big into using stainless steal bolts in aluminium heads to hold on manifolds. Now what could possibly go wrong with that! (I do know). 8.8 are a standard high tensile above the 7.2 you normally would be given, although quite often 8.8 are given out as a standard! Suppose if you ask for HT you get 8.8, so would have to specify 10.2 . Been a while since i needed to buy bolts as they are supplied at work and i have boxes of imperial at home from all the cars.
  18. Unfortunate more than bad luck, it was better it happened in the garage than driving up the road. Not all the work has to be redone and its always quicker the second time around! Though i did sweat a bit getting the gearbox in! Have to decide today if i use the flywheel with the ringgear put back on or use it as exchange on a recon one? Will test to see if i can move the ringgear with my hands, non mechanical, if it passes that perhaps attach to the car with the starter and try a turn over? If it passes that it should be ok.
  19. Normally alight hiss and breeze by the ear, or 7 if you have a flow meter. There are many variables and your test piece should tell you. If using tig with hf becarefull not to be earth, stings a bit by the ear!
  20. Change the switch if not working correctly or put a relay in to reverse the effect.
  21. Well a good thing if you can count is that i found a leak on the pipe that runs under the manifold . It was disturbed last time and see a leak this time. Replacement on list, all stripped off, though it put up a struggle. The flywheel is off and i have put the ring gear back on! Will check it when fully cold tomorrow and decide if i am going to put it back in or exchange it.
  22. I think alot of this is to do with brand loyalty. I remember for years i would ride a kawasaki bike , not entertain getting a honda. Then i bought one and it was quite a good bike. After that it did not matter the make but was it any good. If you can get enjoyment it must be good.
