Wiring for Dummies (me) a bigger fuse box...
Mathew replied to ludwig113's topic in Electrical System
This was while i was working on it. Stripped out all wires that were not needed, then placed in a box with a lid as close to the bulkhead as posible. A bit lazy as i could have remade the wires into a custom box but i was just trying to get it running. Like most bits on the car , it works but could do with improving and tidying . I have a list in my head of improvements and this is probably in the teens. With the 2500s progressing well, hopefully ready for this season after my next set of four. The yellow spitfire is this years main project, spraying will commence once the warm weather returns. The puma spitire is running and will be used this year for run outs around the norfolk countryside, next year will see a string of improvements on it. Like all things will have to manage my time carefully to keep all 3 triumphs on the road. -

I have this above the battery This under drivers dash Pumas into spitfires, who would do such a mad thing. -
I dont know what the difference is but there is as there is two types you can buy. Probably the clearance in certain places. The auto is wider so the exhaust would have to take a different route.

I have two angle grinders! Corded and un corded. I have carried one of these gearboxes before, they are heavy, luckily not as heavy as the engine. 10 years ago i move one of them on my own, boy did i break a sweat. I could not do that today. I will remove the top bolts from above before going under. I have an engine hoist to hold the rear of the engine in the position i want, or an a frame with a block and tackle. Then a high lift 3 tonne trolly jack to support the gearbox. I can lift the car 400mm at least and suport on axel stands. Hopefully all will go well. Plan to do in a couple of days , taking my time as there is always something that comes up. Will do a check list , last thing i want is to forget to fill with oil or leave a bolt undone.

2500s bottom hoses, the hampster wheel of chasing cool temp reading 🐹

Sounds like a plan 👍 -
That would require a pressure relief valve , running an electric pump. I do remember someone moving the fuel pipe from the back of the engine to the front. My 2500s has it at the front.

Hope you bring that to the next duxford, we can all bring our spare gauges to check! Suitable donation of course. Checked levels this morning, very small amount in radiator and about 100ml in the expansion bottle, which seems to be doing its job. Case hopefully closed! -
Looks like I need a new lower radiator hose

Don't worry colin, like all improvements it will show a weakness elsewhere . There is always somthing to tinker with! Thats why we love them. -
I have tried the sheild between the carbs and still had it. First thing if you have waxstat jets is to ditch the wax capsule and replace with a penny. Then as everyone else is saying cold air flow, i had k and n's so got some 4 inch silver foil house ducting and a scoop to under the carbs . This supplied cooler air just where its needed.

Looking good. You may need to goto a 1.4 or 1.3 tip for your colour coats.

What!!! Change it before it starts leaking! Sounds too much like correct preventive maintenance to me 😄👍 -
Andy harrison has some parts second hand, as long as its not estate one as i have first dibs on 😄😄😄😄😄

You would have thought a keyway would have been better. This is now my only job for my next set of four off. Clutch change, release linkage replace (well i bought the bits), wobbly gear leaver and split boot, get the overdrive to work again (suspect leed to switch as it only stopped when i took the cover off to look at leaver!), change gearbox and diff oil. Oh and get some gap bigger that a feeler guage between the propshaft and exhaust! The way it is driving now makes me want to take it out more! 😁

Ok, the temperature gauge now reads correctly at just below halfway. Picture after i switched off for a minute, sill half way. Bit of condensation on volt guage, first time i have driven in the dark, hence lights were on. Very pleased as i gave it a dam good thrashing (Italian tune up) up then down the a10. Now was it just the sender? The one in it was a new one i had on the shelf, swapped for the one i bought today from rimmers. A bitpart item, number in photo. Also the resistor part slightly thicker than the one i had in. Or was it a dodgy water pump, this is the least lightly as the one that came out seemed ok, not quite as smooth but you would be hard pressed to tell the difference blindfolded. Still its a good spare! The third thing i changed was the fan belt (could be) . Noticed was not as tight as i would like but no more adjustment. As luck would have it a number of spare belts came in the box of spares. So off with the belt, first removing power steering belt! . Luckly checked lengths, the one that came off was 1088mm, the first spare (which even though in original packaging looked older!) Was1092. Luck was on my side as the other belt not only looked brand new but was also 1088mm long. Fitted brought the alternator mid point between the engine and battery. Probably could get a slightly shorter belt to allow more adjustment. I took the opertunity to slightly move the power stering pump. I put a washer in between the pump and the adjusting bracket. This had two effects, it gave an extra mm between the bottom water pipe and pump pully and seemed to align the pully better to the crankshaft pully. Tomorrow before work when cool i will check the water level, and spark plug colour after the Italian tune up. The shot gun approach as for 30 pounds for a pump i wanted to make sure it was right before i started my next set of four. -
