    Spark plugs

Got 8 bosch wr78 ordered on ebay, two different sellers, shame not sold in a six pack! Could have got another pack and have a spare set! Will see how i get on, with the miles i do 6 will see me out!
  2. Looked at the gearstick, nothing wrong! Its the gearbox thats a bit notchy. I will lift up the car tomorrow and change the gearbox oil and top up the diff. The washers are on the body side! Lowering the gearbox, as you say if threads are worn a few extra washers will put the nut in a good place but i would not place them there! At some point i will change the clutch, any recommendations or ones to avoid. I am gathering up the bits now. No rush as it does work, does not creap but as stated can be notchy to engage gear. Found these wires while looking at the gear leaver. Any ideas?

I have some denso w16ep-u fitted. I know a bit rich (hs6 su) i can see the previous owner had tried champion n12 and n9 in the past. i have always used ngk bp6es in the past, 5 if i want it hotter. should i stay with the denso or change to the ngk? Not a hard used car. Anyway going to lean up the mixture half a flat at a time till the colours right.
  4. Bought these on ebay. Proper asbestos ones, i won't be using them! All as one package 12 pounds, inc fitting kit for brakes, the wheel bearing kit was the bit i wanted.
  5. Wish i had time to take the spitfire out! Need to sort 2500s. Hopefully after this cold snap ! Have driven the 2500s ,its got a sun roof, does that count
  6. Getting this sort of back on topic! Fitted an ebay powerspark distributor to the 2500s. Very impressed, pulls alot stronger right through the rev range. The old one was ok if you gently increased speed but pinked if you planted your foot. I went fairly cheap solution as i dont like seting points but wanted something that was low maintenance. If i was to get serious only when i rebuilt the engine, full ecu and electronic fuel injection, but the cars not for that, that was my spitfire. To sum it up, for 70 pounds it now pulls strong from idle right up the rev range. Set at 10deg, any one else, is there a better start setting? New Old
  7. Took out for a run, temp still 3/4 with the 82 deg. Do i try 74? Heater is blowing very hot. I know its very hot day. Rad is hot at top, cooler at bottom. I have also changed the distributor for electronic, more of that in another section. There was only one strange thing. I switched the heating off and had a couple of spots of water hit my arm! Other than that drove really well. I did find another radiator cap 13lb
  8. I don't know but would be interested to find out for future job!
  9. Not quite happy as most on here have lower temp readings. Thought i would test the stat as it was out anyway, found it opened with hot water but soon closed. Bought another 82, and a 74 . Tested the two 82s together. The new one opened at the same time but opened bigger and stayed open longer! Then tested the new 74 and 82. Both opened together and the 74 closed shortly after the 82. Will try the new 82. The old one was new! But had been stored for probably 10 years. Will update later.
  10. Typical, looked for my photos last night and could not find them. Still some good ones have been posted.
  11. This is a picture of the guage with the temp at running, fully warmed up. The thermostat And guess which radiator cap The bottom one, the top is a standard spitfire. Plan tomorrow, get new cap and thermostat. Already flushed system twice. Any other thoughts?
  12. Ok couple, well three questions. 1. Gearbox gear change a bit notchey cold but smooth warm? 2. Gear leaver a bit flappy but does not turn, ie loose feel? 3. On the Mot today i got to walk under to have a good look. The mount bar is bolted on in four places to the bodywork. Someone has put 3 washers between the mount and body on each bolt/stud. Looks like to lower the back of the gearbox, why? Hopefully someone can enlighten me.
  13. Well they have the evidence. Parking fine for on the pavement. Only joking. Looking good
  14. A mate of mine used to have to park his motorbike on the front by his house, you guest it. One morning it would not start, someone during the night had swapped his leads round!
  15. Thats what i did! Shortened the mainshaft! I remember how good it was , the quality of the metal as i machined it. Will dig up some pictures tonight and post them on.
  16. I made a gt6 d type overdrive gearbox into a j type from a single rail jtype overdrive, the only bit i needed to do was turn down one of the shafts in the lathe. No other parts required except to get the correct length propshaft. Can't remember which shaft, will have to go through my photos.
  17. When she answers its open, when she does not , its not. Thought someone here would know instead ot bothering angie
  18. Is there an opening date for the shop? Any plans?
  19. I seem to remember the haynes book engine rebuild setting the timing 180 deg's out. 25years ago i rebuild an engine using that and it was out 180. After that only used workshop manuals.
  20. Thats the strange bit, on the forum its automatic but on the website i have to click the login option! Every time!!! I don't have to put in the details as they are remembered just press login!
  21. Don't forget overspray, this can be bigger or smaller depending on what type of spray equipment. Not just the stuff that sticks to the bit you don't want, the dust that will find its way into and onto everything. Save alot of clearing up time by covering up what you don't want to be cleaning up.
  22. I renewed on line this year, i should of saved a few quid and done it by direct debit i know but i never do! As for loging on its always automatically done as i only have a smart phone and view from that only. So have not been asked for my membership number, if i had to put that in all the time it would be a complete ass!
  23. Love the welding helmet, mine is auto darkening but small window, my work one is an air fed parweld with a large window and you really see the difference. Your work is progressing well. Looking forward to the next step
  24. I just remembered why i chose the gaz over the koni. The adjustment. Adjustment gaz on the car, koni off. Not that it matters once set how you want but did not fancy having to take them off every time i wanted to adjust them.
