  1. It is available from Moss, I use the car as my daily so I find it very handy and doesn’t (in my view) look out of place - but those who are very keen on originality my not share my opinion.
  2. I spent ages looking for some decent second-hand ones but they tended to be in worse shape than I expected. In the end I purchased some refurbished ones from a gentleman called Paul Bishop, near Winchester. He often sells through eBay Sometimes I drive with the headrests and sometimes without - I actually prefer the profile of the car without them in-place but they are comfortable on longer journeys.
  3. Those plugs look very lean/hot to me - I’d be checking the timing, could well be overly retarded. ………. Andy
  4. On my way back from work last month I noticed the Streetview camera-car coming towards me but didn’t bother thinking about it until a friend pointed it out a few weeks later…… my TR now graces StreetView, at least until they refresh the images! Any other Triumphs on there? https://maps.app.goo.gl/3yDx5RfXripuV5LF7?g_st=im ……..Andy
  5. I had been having trouble with a blocked windscreen washer-jet on my TR4 - the usual thin pin didn’t work dispite many attempts. However, I managed to clear it in 2 mins using the smallest size (00) of Pikster interdental brush. worth trying if you have a similar problem. ………. Andy
  6. Dynolite dot 5 is current selling at Moss for under £25 for 946ml, so a little less than mentioned above - it does often fall under their seasonal offers which gets it closer to £20. Perhaps there are cheaper sources. Personally, I think the major benefit is no paintwork damage from any spillage - much more wallet-friendly. ……… Andy
  7. A Park Tool CN-10 is a good choice, usually found for about £25 on offer somewhere - spoiler, I help out in a bike shop and these do not cause elevated levels of swearing …….. Andy

    Historic tax

Cars become VED exempt in the April after they turn 40 years old - you just need to wait another fortnight before applying for the taxation class to be updated to Historic. ……… Andy
  9. There are plenty who disagree - grey has been the most popular new car colour for the last 5 years in the UK. https://www.topgear.com/car-news/business/these-were-10-most-popular-car-colours-uk-2022 Slightly less popular in the United States - I think it is no.3 there …….. Andy
  10. If you need some more pics it is listed here: https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1523771 don’t forget the 12.5% buyers fee to be levied on the hammer price - I smiled at the description of recent restoration - 20 years ago I’m sure someone will become the proud owner of a very nice car though. …….. 11. Given that you are looking for Metric your choice of decent suppliers is wider than with AF, I’d recommend Halfords Advance sets but wait until the sales, they are usually heavily discounted If you can’t wait for their special offers then try and find someone with a Halfords trade card - being a Halfords brand you should get a good discount. worth remembering that they carry a very good warranty, if you have a problem they’ll just take one off the shelf or out of a set for you without a quibble. I am reliably informed that they are the same items as those supplied as Craftsman in the US and the quality is comparable to Snap-On. ……. Andy
  12. Welcome to the Club and Forum, delightful-looking MKII 😃
  13. My TR had a pair of K&N’s when I originally purchased it. I have no idea how old they were but I did renew them because they had ‘shrunk’ - it does happen after a considerable time. I replaced with a pair of cone K&N’s and have been happy with them. I could improve matters in a couple of ways - add an air box with cold-air feed and also add a pair of stub stacks inside the filters. The offset filters I have don’t have enough room inside to accept the ones I’d like (MED Engineering) so that will have to wait, maybe one day. The Pipercross PX600 could be an option for the air box, but to be honest I’d like to see one fitted to decide if it would look out of place in my engine bay Mine also runs a 123Ignition Tune+ , it was very straightforward to set up after about 30mins to do the calculations to set up the initial curve, then just a couple of tweaks in use. I haven’t had to touch it since and it runs beautifully, I like the fact that if I ever get around to doing a rolling-road session then the advance curve can be refined further in about 2 mins rather than faffing around with different weights etc. I completely agree that chopping/changing things without assessing each one can sometimes be like shooting yourself in the foot, but sometimes we have to fail in order to learn - it would be boring if everything was simple ………Andy
  14. Hi Chris, you do have a long-shot for it turning up; if the car is currently wearing a cherished plate, should the current owner decide to sell the car they are almost certain to place the cherished plate on retention (Using a V778 form). When this happens, the first choice for the DVLA is to reallocate original registration number back to the vehicle - at which point a regular DVLA vehicle search would highlight the car again. A glimmer of hope for the future ……… Andy
  15. The MOT history remains with the car against its current registration number - so if a vehicle gets a new plate any search on the old number will come up blank. The survival rate of Stags is actually very good, so it may well still be alive but under a different plate...... or off the road via age or accident. I'd expect the same applies to the TR5. ...... Andy
  16. That number plate is a long way for its first home lovely looking car ……… Andy
  17. i guess, with the low number of pre-bookings perhaps this isn't as large a task as it could have been (always like to try and find a positive ) ....... Andy
  18. I understand that it can indeed be ethanol free - depends which refinery it is delivered from. around here there is currently a 19p/litre difference between Regular E10 unleaded and Super Unleaded E5 at Esso stations. ……. Andy Edit: the link above confirms that Esso refineries/logistics serving Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England and Scotland do not provide Ethanol-free fuel

    Revington Tr

It is Triumph-related - definitely right for this forum ……. Andy
  20. I am running a 123Ignition Tune+ on my TR4, I started by replicating the curve of the std distributor which should be available from the WSM. This will get you running - but then you can tweak it from there. Remember that whatever advance figures you dial into the 123 will be in addition to any static advance you may have set. A Rolling Road session with someone who knows your setup is the best path to get things spot on. …… Andy
  21. I use a pair of CJ Autos hydraulic ramps - when in the fully lowered position front-end clearance with my TR4 is not an issue (although they did come with a pair of lead-on ramps as well, I have never used them) I don’t have much room in my garage so I park the car on them every time to save on storage-space and means the front is always ready to lift 😀 ……. Andy
  22. Fixed-head 7, durable, simple and comfortable at the same time - plus shouldn’t make you wince too much if you come a cropper ………… Andy
  23. I can’t speak to the kits that are supplied today, however I can say that when I fitted twin 40’s to my 1296 spitfire back in the mid 80’s I needed to grind the 4-branch exhaust manifold and the TriumphTune inlet manifolds to get a decent fit and seal to the head - it was pretty standard-practice at the time and worked fine. .......
