  1. I struggled for years but it was play in the pedal and mc pivots
  2. I bought a 4 synchro from fitchetts 20 plus yes ago. Still good.
  3. On the Herald, the jack locates over the chassis bolt on the outrigger. However on my old Spit, I darent jack it anywhere other than on a chassis rail with a wide spreader block , or it would have crumbled !
  4. Fitchetts do an exchange box.

Great post Steve. Agree with you
  7. I remember fitting Spax to the rear of the herald in the early 90s. Set em stiff. Cornered appallingly ! The shocks and springs on the front were new in 85 and after about 60,000 miles still work brilliantly, the rears have been changed three times.....

John I can only apologise for the abrupt response you received. The FB members get quite protective of the page at times. Face book is not for everyone, and does seem to require a less formal approach . Most people I know , who dont "Get it " seem to be Older people or very "Traditional " ( lots of Farmers !) who seem to resent the need for an internet. Its More pub Banter than a forum. You can have a "conversation " which doesnt generally happen on a forum. To be honest , generally I prefer Facebook, and have made some excellent friends through it. It is also a great way of connecting once more ( albeit virtually ) with people who you have met at events or club meets. My memory for names is terrible, so it also acts as an aide memoir. You can put a name to a face, and then have more to discuss when you next meet. For over a year, Facebook provided the only link to the TSSC and was an invaluable tool. The Forum is essential, and I had a few heated discussions at club level, when I heard a rumour of its future demise. This is in danger of becoming CT vs TSSC . theres room fro everybody. all the best, Andy Brooker
  9. After 30 years my starter was getting a bit sluggish. Also after a wonderful hotel break at Lake Vrynwy ( go.....its perfect Classic touring country) where my car almost let me down by struggling to start, I decided to upgrade to the clubs Hi Torque. Just finished fitting it. So a few top tips for fitting one to a Herald ( albeit with a MkIV spit engine.....) 1. Strip out the tunnel, You wont get the new one on otherwise.I know you probably have changed the stock item before , but trust me on this one ! feed the bolts from inside the car , and try and con/ bribe your son into helping. Otherwise fumble , swear , and moan, until you get the nuts on.Its a pain...... 2. Fit the starter power cable to the unit before you fit it. Its a bit of a faff to fit after. 3.Use the original spacer. Otherwise you will go back to stage 1....( dont ask) as it will not fully disengage. 4.Enjoy the instant starting. For thirty years my car has been a brilliant starter. After having it tuned at Triumfest it ran beautifully but when the weather became colder , often wouldnt start . I suspected the simonbbc ignition. Changed loadsa stuff. Nope. Lots of fuel pressure. Always needed full choke. Tweaked the jets to enrich. Instant start. yet the Choke works as it should. Odd.
  10. wow..... worth remembering. anyone have a tr5 cam ??
  11. I simply cut around the gaiter leaving a three inch margin of carpet. Fit this onto gearbox tunnel and slipcarpet over.
  12. even if you salvage the small moulded partof the carpet with the gaiter attached it helps. I have one on my herald its a lovely detail.
  13. ooh......now thats an idea. as I now have a 1500 in the Bond. Without the cam is there much advantage?
  14. if the carpets are original , bear in mind new ones wont fit as well. Also keep the gearlever cover with the chrome top. You wont see another....
  15. Had a toledo in my Bond. Not as good as a 13/60 for some reason, but it may have just been a duff one.
  16. no reason to write it off.The problem areas are trim and electrics. so really not a problem.
  17. Shop now selling a solution. Not cheap but looks good.
  18. my j type is instant. the d type, is very sluggish..... just saying.
