First Classic - Spitfire Mk2

Recommended Posts

there are a lot of "get out " clauses about these days

its quite stupid as a sharp knife unlocks any hood material

and just needs unpopping to gain entry

its small print written by someone with little idea of reality with a classic hood

it also seems to depend on who you are uinsured with  i cannot find any silly small print in my peter James policy

"Loss or damage to your car, its accessories and spare parts or its content by theft or attempted theft, or by a person taking and driving it without your permission if: l it has been left unlocked l it has been left with the keys in l reasonable precautions have not been taken to protect your car"

the term  "Reasonable" seems reasonable

they will be at Duxford i will ask the definitive question   but PJ does specialise in classic /approved value  cover for the club members

I have enquired about this 'get out' with Peter James. I don't suppose much will be done but it is worrying that cars left with the roof down are not insured for theft etc. I had not idea until Josef mentioned it.

I suppose you could argue that theft of items in a car with roof down are not covered but if the vehicle itself is stolen then the lack of roof didnt make it much easier for the b@st*r6s....

I asked specifically for a mention on the policy that the car will be parked on my drive overnight.  It didn't affect the premium by more than few pounds.  I wasn't asked for any additional security.  This for an agreed value (replacement - not market) per TSSC of £20,000 via one of the club's listed brokers.

thats clever most the screws are fitted from the inside  out  not the outside in   does the screw have a hex head or just a screwdriver + -

if its a hex a small ratchet ring would fit behind the engine , when its off fit the spire clips to the car and fix with nice washers from the inside

and get some squashy foam to glue on as a air seal

Ah they should be the other way round with the heads accessible from this side. Hope you can get to them from the engine bay...

They look long so as a last resort you might be able to at least get them loose using pliers gently from the inside?

no the originals are a fibre composition and the bag filling is either wool or rockwool  inert stuff

replacements tunnels are fibre glass or ABS   no asbestos here

yours looks in good conditon  .. the isulation bags are original      .keep it

do not get drawn into buying the sealing strip kits that cost a fortune and wont fit anything

if there are any air gaps i just use a strip cut from a slab of upolstery foam  and glue it to the tunnel  it squishes up easy and seals all the wonky gaps ...cheap
