Darren Groves
I bought some NOS pistons for my Spitfire project, seem well made but have never seen them with a split in the skirt and the extra lower ring. Any ideas behind the thinking for this? Darren
Nick Jones
Design with emphasis in quite running and oil control....... but high friction (oil control rings are the worst for friction) and not strong. If building an engine with an eye to performance you'll do much better with a set or modern County pistons. Nick
Pete Lewis
they used call it a scraper ring was a common way to improve oil consumption used by many manufacturers in their day . pete

dougbgt6
My GT6 pistons have the scrapper rings. Or they did, last time I saw them was 30 years ago. db
Gary Flinn
I fitted a similar Hepolite set with the extra Oil control ring low down when rebuilding my Vitesse Engine, got them off Flea-bay. The car is still running well with the new owner 15,000+ Miles on? Gary
DanMi
This type was fitted to the very early mk1 spits and 1147cc heralds. As others have said they are not as strong and increase the friction, which is why I believe Triumph stopped using them. I have a set of hepolites +20 like that for an 1147 but used a NOS full skirt version when rebuilding my mk2 spit engine as the output of the mk2 is quite high.
