Colin Lindsay
Hi all; anyone recognise these wheelnuts? I have sixteen, curved at one end and flat at the other, all with a plastic washer and there are also 14 plastic covers. I thought they were Triumph Dolomite from a 1500 I broke back in the early 1990s but now am not so sure. Anyone recognise them?
Clive
I have a feeling (if they are 3/8UNF threads) that they are off a mini. Used with some factory alloys? Certainly not dolomite originally, though possible they were used on a triumph with steel wheels.
NonMember
They look similar enough to the correct Dolomite wheel nuts to have been used on one but, as Clive says, they're not a Triumph nut.
Colin Lindsay
The search goes on, then... no idea what car they came from, yes I had a 948 Mini City back in around 1982 but don't remember ever touching the wheels. Too many other things were wrong with it.
Clive
I would pursue the mini connection. I had a quick look, dome end nuts are one of the type sold by the specialists. The covers look like the sort of think BL would have used...
trigolf
Possibly late model Maxi or Allegro ? Gav
Colin Lindsay
1 hour ago, clive said: I would pursue the mini connection. These are open both ends so not strictly domed, if I understand the name correctly. One end is circular and curved / domed so that's the end that fits into the wheel; the other is flat but six-sided and threaded right through. I must try them on a Herald stud to see if they're the same size and thread.
Pete Lewis
but they have at a guess 60deg taper face and the split rim washer whats that for was this to hold a wheel trim or a spigot nut design ??? Pete
Clive
by domed I meant the "business" end. A bit unusual which is why I thought mini. They do look OE quality. Trying to think of something else 1980s (that is what the funny plastic covers look) that may have had the same 3/8 thread. BL stable, so Ital? I had assumed you had checked the threads, but then again you would have noticed if they were m12 threads... (Pete, they are domed ends, not 60 degree which helps narrow it all down a lot)

Colin Lindsay
I've just found that out of the total of 14 about six have a BL logo on the underside of the cap. I'm assuming the wheelnuts held on some kind of centre plastic trim, as in the Dolomite, and then the cap went over the nut, but am no further on so far. Adrian
Not sure if it helps but here’s an extract from the minispares parts catalogue. Best fit is 1985-2000 era, item 7 or 9?
poppyman
Hi Colin, I seem to remember these being on the mini clubman? The ones with steel wheels but with a full plastic trim that was held on with the nuts. Tony.
thescrapman
Not the mini clubman I had, they were like 1500 Spitfire type
Clive
http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Wheels/Nuts and caps/FAM5701.aspx?2001&ReturnUrl=/shop/classic/Wheels/Nuts~and~caps.aspx|Back to shop And to confirm round chamfer https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/wheel-nut-round-chamfer-fam5701.html Seem to be ridiculously expensive. But it may be difficult finding anybody who actually wants them on their car. Seems to be chrome hubcap retro wheels or alloys with the mini peeps. But open wheel nuts are good in my book. You can see if there is enough thread engagement, and they won't bottom out either.

Colin Lindsay
That's as close as I've seen so far. Sadly all my searches are spoiled by results for modern Minis, or else wildly alternative wheels and trims, not originals. "Why do you want to fit those boring things, I've got Carlos Fandango Super Wide Wheels" etc yawn yawn. 💤 My sister-in-law had a brown Clubman, I don't remember ever working on the wheels but did replace her car radio, with the result that the first time she switched it on, the car ground to a halt on the road. Oops....

That is why it ground to a halt! You forgot to put the nuts back on.......... Tony.
Colin Lindsay
You're a star, Tony, go to the top of the class. Sadly that posting means they're not hen's teeth and worth £££££££s. Ah well, back to the grind.
