s99sdp
Hello all, I'm close to renewal time on my Spitfire insurance, I'm currently with RH and the figure they've given me is £120.00. Not a bank breaker but I thought I'd ask who the other members here were using and what your insurances cost? SP
Guest
Hello SP, If you are a TSSC member, I'd suggest contacting one of the insurance companies on the panel - in addition you can take advantage of the TSSC AIV scheme. On a personal basis, I have been using Peter James for a number of years (multi car policy) and have always found them to be well priced. In addition they offer free UK & Overseas breakdown cover, some companies charge extra for this. It is also worth considering having another named driver on the policy as this generally reduces the premium by a few pounds. This is a well trodden topic and you will get a fair number of replies. On average PJ tend to charge between £90 and £120 for a single classic policy depending upon your personal circumstances. As such your quote is certainly within the loop but you may be able to improve upon that. Regards. Richard.
Badwolf
I noticed that breakdown cover with PJ was an extra when I got my insurance recently. May just be because its my first year with them. Not worried as I have other cover for breakdowns.
Guest
Renewed mine early May 2020 and no additional premium - was your enquiry after that ??

Looks like they may have changed the cover. I only found the add on option after I had arranged it. I was having a scrap with the RAC at the time. Wanted to pay my renewal with Tesco rewards voucher. Renewal was 134.00 but theh wanted 210.00 worth of vouchers. Settled for 108.00 via card for 15 months. Not sure that I really got a good deal, but it covers most things in any car with no age restictions on the car.

From their website: Peter James Insurance is the UK's leading Specialist Classic, Veteran and Vintage Vehicle and Multi Vehicle Insurance Broker. After nearly 40 years of serving the classic car movement, we know precisely how to protect all your precious vehicles. All policies include:- Motor Legal Expenses, - UK and European Breakdown Recovery - Limited Mileage Options - Agreed value cover is also available So not sure why they were asking for additional premiums. Have been with them 12 years now. 1 claim (no fault) where the claims handling company were not terribly good, more interested in building up costs against the offending drivers insurance (I put a halt to that PDQ) and Peter James were horrified when I explained my displeasure. However, that is the way insurance works thesedays, and probably controlled by the underwriters. (happy ending, the third party insurance sent an assessor out within a few days, and I had a settlement cheque very soon after) In terms of cost, all 3 of my cars are modified (sprint mechanicals in a toledo, highly modified mk3 spit plus 180ish bhp ford engined spit. Total agreed value in excess of 30K) and costs are what I regard reasonable at £300ish.
Badwolf
Very strange about that. I will enquire when I renew.
thescrapman
I was withPJ for many years, but for some reason ERS took a dislike to giving what I thought would be a fair premium. Then found most brokers use ERS for their multi-vehicle policies. So got same premium where ever I tried. Ended up with Cherished Insurance who also run the TRR scheme. Part of A-Plan group. Pete Lewis
I have always supported clubpanel brokers and used PJ for 15 years without fault but follwed up the lead of Cherished classics from the TR i route and they are very clear and helpful take TSSC members and valuations are FREE , with 6 photos i insure my Citroen Cactus130 in a multi car policy and as our post code is not so nice its loads the figures compared with out in the countryside ( which is only 100yds down the road ) and the latest PJ quote is less that last year at £664 the TRR i / A plan cherished cover is £520 the only limiting change in the documents is PJ is unlimited classic miles Cherished is 7500 which suits me need to talk to Bern as the upshot is the club losses the Valuation fee and commission values from not using panel companies but at the end of the day £144 saving is not insignificant to a poor old pensioner Ha ! all aspects of cover for breakdown glass locks etc are about the same so ive jumped ship worth giving them a call 0333 003 8157/ 8156 Pete

dougbgt6
Damn! Renewed on 1st August, although, £130 from PJ is OK for the moment and the modern is elsewhere. However, worrying for the club if PJ is getting expensive AND other insurers are offering FREE classic valuations. Doug

avivalasvegas
After several attempts with Adrian Flux, Peter James etc. I found Lancaster to provide the most reasonable premiums and, by far, the highest agreed valuations on the market. While their customer service standards leave room for improvement, I only have to deal with them once a year, a small price to pay for the above.
