mpbarrett
I need a new door striker plate for the RH side (and probably LH). They are not available new anywhere at the moment and most second hand ones are very worn. Started to think about machining one but would need to produce a drawing of the part. Its quite complex with lots of curves and odd shapes, all I guess as a result of careful design. Someone in Triumph must have designed and drawn this part, so what happened to all the original Triumph drawings? Were they destroyed or hidden away in a BMW archive somewhere? BTW the picture (from Rimmers) looks lie its CNC machined, the original is a cast item so someone has already redrawn the part for machining. mike
NonMember
It may not have been a Triumph design - possibly a Wilmot Breedon (or whoever) design that Triumph bought in.
JohnD
Mike, As you say a complex shape, but apart from the recess on the back, in two dimensions only. Straightforward to draw in, say, SOLIDWORKS. Is this for a Herald etc? Surely all the others are the same, but the saloons might not be. The plan is to try to draw it and convert to G code and produce a part in plastic on my new (well very cheap second-hand) 3D printer. If it works then look at getting some cut on CNC machines. Or do it 'old school' on my manual milling machine. Lots of hurdles, got to learn Solidworks, get the 3D printer actually working, etc etc. But should keep brain active Mike

It's much thinner in the right-hand version, which has been worn away over the years.

That's probably a sensible way to remove them, it means the screws aren't mangled and the buyer can unseize them at leisure.

As I haven't seen any on Ebay for ages I brought them, good price (£42 new from Rimmers) and as Pete says they have the plastic slide bits in them. Probably not as worn as the ones on my Herald mike

RogerH
Triumph drawings missing - Pah After the last Concorde was built the manufacturing drawings were of little use. In the late 70's early 80's they were sold for a song to an enthusiast. Not exactly sure what and how many but it was a significant amount of specialist information. Still it wasn't needed anymore. Until !!!! BA started to lose its rudders oops!! How do you make new rudders with no drawings. They had to hire the drawings back for 'not' a song. Somebody became quite wealthy overnight. Peter Truman
Ask TSSC HEad Office in the reading room I think I saw some Standard Triumph drawings when visiting there around 2007 when on holiday.
JohnD
Do you have SOLIDWORKS, Mike. I learnt it at college, part of my degree course, and had the Student version until the licence ran out. I found it so useful that I liked to buy a copy - Ouch! It costs! But join the Experimental Aircraft Association in the US, and you can have a Student copy for free!

Pete Lewis
and someorig drawings could be in the Coventry Motor Museum archive in Trucks idiots would sell off old stock for peanuts and then had to pay blackmail prices when it was found to be needed its the rivet counters with no common sense or understanding and short term memory caused chaos with fire engines with long term parts guarantee luckily they dont have a rudder but these antics gave the corporate seagulls a red face at times you know the sort they fly in ,squawk a lot, sh1t all over you , then fly off , Pete

mpbarrett
my door plates have arrived from Ebay. Not too badly worn, better than any of my spares and both have the slider plate at the bottom Unusually the sliders are metal (possibly brass) rather than plastic and look original complete with the springs, both are seized but can be freed off. The plate are fitted to a bit of fibre glass panel so no idea what car they came from! mike
Mike Costigan
Could be from a Bond Equipe. When I was 'playing' with Triumphs (around forty years ago!) I don't recall ever coming across a striker plate with plastic components.
Colin Lindsay
All mine are metal, probably all from Heralds / Vitesse. Be careful if you dismantle them, the spring is easily stretched and won't go back to the original position again.

ahebron
After you get the drawings you need a company like this. https://www.foundry-lab.com/ Buggered if I know how they do it but it sounds clever
