  1. Having done this to my 2.5 MK1 Vitesse it needed very light fettling around the seam of the chassis. Also a custom mount for the rear.(mine has O/D).And the gearstick is in the same place. More mods required if you want to use the existing speedo drive because of the position of it.(i went electronic). Did all that and then it ate a driveshaft at the hub end.(now CV`d). Steve
  2. So i have been given a brand new compressor,it has a v-twin engine and works great but,the dipstick is missing. It doesn`t really need a dipstick as there is an inspection window for the oil level so i was planning to just put a bolt and copper washer in the hole. How do i find what size i need?,all i can do is measure the hole which is 15mm diameter. Steve
  3. Thanks Nick,i had another look at the shafts which i had discarded, found the 2 spacers, although they are different in that one has two flat surfaces and one is chamfered on one side. Steve
  4. I have the Jones,Bowler conversion on my Vitesse and it is excellent, however no longer available.(I think Nick is machining more adapters). I am putting together parts for converting my Herald and have a full roto setup on the bench,I am not clear with the shimming aspect, when i stripped it all down there were no shims that i could see? I am using the Jigsaw type/Rimmers shafts using the original hub etc. Any advice appreciated,i would have posted on CT as well but their new site is too annoying. Steve
  5. I will be there somewhere watching. Steve
  6. We went for a drive in my Vitesse from Windsor down to the coast at Hayling Island, lovely day, very sunburnt on the face. Didn`t see as many cars out as i would have expected or seen in previous years.People don`t seem to be using their cars as much. Steve
  7. That`s weird, replied to the oil filter thread and it jumped to this one? Can`t see how to delete it. S
  8. + 1 for the adapter and Mann filters, instant oil pressure on my Herald on startup. Steve
  9. On my Vitesse i have 2,one by the tank but before the pump (electric in the boot) and one in the engine bay before the carbs. Steve
  10. Prices do indeed seem to be going up,there is a PI engine on e- bay for 1k,not selling unsurprisingly. Thinking whether or not to shift my spare MG engine, very early MK2 number, been in the garage a number of years. S
  11. It fired up straight away once it started sucking fuel,6 degrees here today so a roof down drive around Windsor and Ascot was what was needed. Loads of jobs to do on it but seriously lacking time at present. Steve
  12. So today i attempted to get my Vitesse out after it not running since September,i`m ashamed to say that as i normally use it all year round. But i have been so busy with work and acquiring and building an 18 foot man shed in my garden,(in poxy weather). It has a 2.5 lump and a Facet electric pump on it,i turned it over with no pump running to get the oil going, then engaged the pump. The pump sounded like it was sucking air only so i checked and found the pickup rubber pipe from tank to pump in the boot had hardened and was loose on the pipe connection, not only that but the metal pipe that goes into the tank was flopping about and could be withdrawn from the securing nut easily,is there supposed to be an olive or something here?. I replaced the knackered rubber pipe with another and got it started and took it out for a blast after pumping the tyres up,clutch bearing is still making a whining noise when the clutch is depressed.Annoying but i missed not using it. Steve
  13. Hmmm. is that BMC Green?,that`s what i used on my 2 engines. Steve
  14. Sorry ageing memory failure.. Not a TR7- a Dolly Sprint shaft. 52 years old and i cant remember what happened yesterday, let alone when i fitted it all in 2009 Steve
  15. Sorry for the hijack but,in my Vitesse 2.5 i have a saloon box with o/d. It has a TR7 cross shaft upside down. How long should i get out of a clutch? it has done about 12k on this one but it is becoming hard to engage a gear when its hot, could this be hydraulic?. I also get a couple of seconds of whining noise when off the pedal from the bearing. Steve
  16. My 2.5 Vitesse hates it if i put 95 unleaded in it,it runs on and pinks badly. Shell V Power for me if available. S
  17. My 2.5 engined Vitesse with saloon box makes a sort of sigh or groaning noise when the clutch is depressed, that`s after 10000 miles use, weird. S
  18. The last one on e bay went for over £500,i was watching it. There`s a PI engine on the bay at the moment with an SAH cover that looks like its been stored in the sea, that,s already at silly money as i suspect people are bidding for the cover rather than the engine. Steve
  19. Hi Pete, Never tried it with the cotton reel mounts, just the usual O/D plate type.Weird. I do use Ford gaiters on both my cars though, much neater. Steve
  20. Don`t know about this Pete,i fitted that box in my 13/60 and it`s fine with the tunnel cover and carpet etc.Works a treat and makes a big difference with the 3:63 diff as well. Steve
  21. Lovely looking original car there,i would have been at the South of England meets in those years, don`t remember the car specifically though, but then... i don`t remember what i did yesterday. S
  22. I am about to replace the radio in my Vitesse (1968 MK 1 CV) with a modern as posted in one of the other threads. In the drivers side footwell side board I have a speaker,it is rectangular, held by 4 studs and nuts, and the speaker and surround look very much like the original one I have for the radio and speaker that sits on the tunnel. The side one is definitely period,i wondered if these were factory fitted as I thought the radio and surround etc. were optional. Steve
  23. I got flat, round locking chrome ones for my Herald and Vitesse as i don`t like the look of the Waso ones. From E bay as new old stock. Just make sure they are vented as mine weren`t and you will break down when the pump tries to create a vacuum in the system.Easily fixed by making small hole in the seal. Steve
  24. Gareth Thomas did extensive work on my HS6 `long tract` manifold (see avatar) when i built my 2.5,matched to the work with the head he also did, and tested all the way through on a flow bench to get the best results possible. All i can tell you that it goes really well and has bags of torque. Steve
