    Car SOS

Quite like Car SOS,Tim Shaw makes me laugh sometimes. It can be interesting especially when they show things like cold stitching a cracked block. Good programme on channel 4 last night with Philip Glenister and Ant Antstead restoring a 1958 racing Lotus Elite. S
  8. Very high i would have thought,my car runs 10:1 and that was about 180psi when new. Steve
  9. I live in Egham, never used Moto Build other than looking at a MK 1 Lotus Cortina they were selling.(sadly too much money). Deacons in Limes Rd painted and fettled my Herald and Vitesse. No website or anything as its an old style family company in an old forge that's been going for 70 odd years. I,ve seen a Red Herald from Staines and another Blue Vitesse in there in the last week. I would say if you want big money high end work then one of the well knowns is for you.If you want decent work at good prices shop around. Steve
  10. Good old John"Trackerjack" Jackson. S
  11. Its worth trying,i found the first owner of my Vitesse which was in 1969. Now living in Shropshire,I spoke to him on the phone and he was really chuffed it was still on the road.(i bought it in High Wycombe in 1985). Steve
  12. When i converted mine to CV the wheel balance weights were hitting the trunnion housing when rotating. S
  13. I did notice the pins being loose when fitted,i havent noticed any pad chatter yet but i will be doing around a thousand miles in it next weekend for the CT Northern tour so i will report back. Steve
  14. James Paddock normally have a good reputation,i`m sure they will deal with something thats not fit for purpose.. S
  15. I fitted a set to my Vitesse on Saturday and i wasn`t sure why they were in there,i re-used the metal shims from the old pads. Steve
  16. I fitted a Spal 11 inch sucker fan behind the rad on my Vitesse, very thin and works well, you might be able to see it in my avatar, Close but it just clears the crank pulley.its switched by a thermo switch from Rally Design fitted in the top hose with an override switch in the car. Biggest test was crawling up the M6 last August for 6 hours, guage never reads more than 3/4. Steve
  17. First thing i would say is if it doesn`t have one get a fuse in there before rewiring,Fuses are there to prevent this before its gets to the melting stage or worse a fire. J types don`t take much current, your problem must be shorting somewhwere, mine has a 3 amp fuse inline with the supply. Steve
  18. I know you`ve probably eliminated it but i had the same symptoms of boiling on a Mini which turned out to be the pump not doing its job properly, dont assume new ones can`t be faulty if it is new?. Where in London are you? Steve
  19. I found a local small firm metal polisher in Surrey,he had them stripped of the anodizing by dipping and then polished them up,i don`t think he re-anodized them but they still look good a couple of years later with all weather use. All i do is a polish with Solvol now and again.Cost me £100 for the full set. Steve
  20. Suppressor for radio interference? common back in the day. S
  21. I got two from e bay for my cars, with speakers. They do come up sometimes but the last one i saw went for £125. Steve
  22. Probably worth asking on the TR Register forum. http://www.tr-register.co.uk/forums/ Steve
  23. They can get pinholes in the filler neck, easy to repair by brazing or soldering,i took mine to a radiator repair specialist for a refurb when mine was smelling in the boot. Also the pickup pipe olive can leak on a full tank so check that. Steve
  24. Not much help now but if you had it apart to re- torque the bearing caps you could have checked for a crank regrind and new shells.Did the pistons and bores look newish? Steve
  25. 209014 is the correct one for the Vitesse,I dont` know if the standard top hose will fit properly with the shorter one? Steve
