  1. Yes Doug you cant do any of the pin lifting excercises the top adjuster needle have a small plasticy washer at the head of the needle If you pull the air piston assy out the std setting is this little washer sits up close to the base of the piston im sure they will let you out to play if you're good pete
  2. doug if yours are cdse ? the needles are set with the delrin washer about flush with the piston you dont need lifting pins sleep well Pete
  3. dosnt the FWD have the starter ring on the crank pulley, , cant you lock that ?
  4. apart from all smiths motors of this generation have the same basic casing i have no idea. Pete
  5. i cant see why any book would advise setting things with the filters or cleaners or mufflers or ram stack sock being left off but they do !!!!! with carbs having lifting pins it easy , if they are nor seized up, any adjustments should be done in a as running condition, not have half the car missing. emmission controlled carbs have them deleted as they dont expect anyone to twiddle with the factory settings same as blanked off idle screws etc. of which most tamper proofing has long been ditched . most people of our ages cant hear or detect the rev changes or feel the pin contact so ts all a waste of time worried from luton !!!
  6. 1/2 turn is too much I would recomend 1/8 to 1/4 increments especially if its running pretty much ok dont get paranoid about it, if its not misfiring or hic cups on accelerating dont worry too much piston lift is not a dark art but its a small lift and listen to a hint of change so if weak a 2mm lift will drop the idle by about 50 rpm rich will raise 50 rpm If ok not much happens at all this small change only occurs for a few seconds with it idling must have air cleaners on, pointless with them off. So dont expect it to stall or race , its small quiet changes , it will do dramatic changes if you yank the piston up thats not the plan. rise the pin till you just feel it touch the piston, then lift just a few mm.
  7. Yes in general a lean mix has a higher temperature I would richen it a little . you want a light brown rather than heading to grey or white pete
  8. Delilah is out on the loose watch out pete
  9. And if you put a small bulb between the coil neg and earth when the dizzy triggers it will light the bulb just the same as if it has contact points is the unit being fed with 12v and the leccy units need to earth via the base plate So must be a link to the coil neg and feed from 12v check the ohms between the two 12v terminals 12v 3 ohms balasted 1.5 ohms As its a vitesse with no balast , its got to be a 3 ohm coil. if per chance its a 1.5 ohm coil then the doubled current often fries the pick up pete
  10. You cant get polo's out the glove box with statics Doug, you really need to get a mirror Ha!!
  11. The problems within the gearbox apply whatever end does the driving unless the engine is turning the input shaft or the things in gear turning the inards you still have a dry mainshaft running inside stationary gear sets Once the oil is spun out .. its got no lubrication pete
  12. ring garth in club shop to get these correct but brochure shows https://shop.tssc.org.uk/product/inertia-belt-hervitbond-conv-51430 as these have no shoulder moutings and with the ride of these cars sometimes static are better , inertia can with a choppy ride get tighter and tighter over the shoulder its down to preference. Pete
  13. One reason why recoverd cars are on spectacle lifts or trucks on suspended tow Many of our trucks had a tap in the clutch hydraulics to lock the clutch down , engage a gear before any tow,. It amazes me when you see cars on a A frame tow behind camper vans that thinngs dont seize up they tow for miles If you keep rotating a shaft inside static gear bushes or bearing they will ultimately run them dry automatics with a input driven oil pump could be a right disaster some have oil pumps on the output which would be ok but any box splash feed is asking for trouble as there is no splash when towing if that helps pete
  14. canley classics show 148850 as recondition and in stock (no size shown) then if you want some made these are the range of thickness grades 146101 0.128" 152830 0.139" 484 0.141" 485 0.143" 486 0.148" 487 0.155" if that helps Pete
  15. just to add some facts into the problems , orange is not definitive an area car has had a club shop recon dizzy condenser fail, these come from H and H I believe it has a orange wire and cutting the unmarked canister open there is 6.5 mtrs of 0.0005" foil and 3 mtrs of plastic insulator film so these are up to spec for content Pete
  16. just like that !!!! dont know if these will have parts for your motor but have a fair selection of repair parts http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/category/wiper-systems-and-parts/
  17. a large wooden screwdriver held against components or engine block with ear on the handle will help locate bit like using a stethoscope dont get it in the fan or AE have to extricate it Pete
  18. The drop links for the bonnet are shown slot down in wsm and slot up in parts list might depend on the age of the bonnet tubes, mine were solid no tubes , it makes no sense to pivot on a slotted hole, if you do it tight it wont pivot and if you leave it just nipped so it can pivot it drops down the slots, some bonnets have a spacer tube so the boss can pivot on that makes more sense my 64 was just a solid boss , it had to go slot up as shown in parts list. some fit longer links to gain more adjustment Awful design but it worked. pete
  19. Club stainless systems have a lifetime warranty if thats any value to you many like stainless as they dont degrade through the limited use many cars get and steel soon rot out you then may decide you want some va va roo and go for a semi sports to liven the drive up a little its a down to preference and changing down under a bridge and open the taps takes you back to teenage mode pete
  20. Owens top spring supplier I Cant trace that part number pete
  21. That will work its there to stop air being sucked down the sides obviously made of self destruct after market self funding rubber you could block off the port completely , leave the comps on as dummies in case a nosey mot guy might just reckon youre supposed to have them Pete
