  1. Vitesse MK2 Another bulkhead hole sealed up . Just repaired the bulkhead seal for the steering column - repaired with a section of inner tube - Job done ! The pic shows the original worn rubber gasket ( centre ). The repair gasket on the left cut from an old inner tube The assembled bulkhead gasket ready to be screwed back in Paul
  2. Hi Doug check out the FAQ on Bilthamber site ie Can electrox be used over hydrate 80? No, as this product must contact bare steel, and hydrate 80 cures as a primer, covering the bare steel. Use epoxy mastic over hydrate 80. You can use Electrolux Zinc over Deox - C and Deox - Gel Paul
  3. Hi Doug , agree for max protection go the Bilthamber route . My understanding is that wIth Hydrate 80 it’s best to use their Epoxy mastic rather than Electrolux Zinc coating Paul
  4. Hi , probably not useful for some though I find Sweet Project Cars a good source of information . Its very American and that can be a tad over powering at times though good content & tips and some "outside the box" ideas Paul
  5. Update Decided to remove the Regulator as its under the dash and not visible + replacing the Millboard so wont need to cut a hole for the regulator . Joining the wires was helped by securing the tinned cable ends with a 5mm section of 15mm copper pipe with had been cut and wrapped round the wires - Using a brulee burner , heating the pipe and filling in with solder . Im making a new under dash millboard with this product from screwfix - Ive got some left over from a roofing job and have found its very useful for other applications - Best way of trimming the board is with a jig saw though strong scissors also work for short sections - Thanks again for all the input - appreciated Paul
  6. Hi Darren , thanks for advice and spires will be the way forward Paul
  7. Thanks all for your input and now added a corrected version for future reference ( Thanks Pete ) I was going to run an additional 42 amp cable (already purchased ) from the Alternator ( its a 45 amp Alternator ) direct to the battery though will now add to the Solenoid . Still havent made the decision whether to remove the internals of the regulator or connect by splicing Paul
  8. Triumph Vitesse MK2 Hi upgrading to an alternator and removing the existing regulator Before I make the dreaded cuts - is the pic below correct procedure for splicing wires on the regulator RB340 . I was going to cut off the terminals and splice / solder and heat shrink - Any other methods ? I would like to retain the original spades but couldnt find a solution . I had a great idea of using an old Lucas fuse box until I realised 3 of the spade connectors were 8mm and too large Paul
  9. Hi what is the correct name for the plastic plugs which attach the millboard to the body . Any info re size and where to purchase from appreciated My Vitesse mk2 saloon doesn’t have the lower dash millboard for the drivers side though the retainers are there . Plan to make one up and fit in place Paul
  10. The weight will be approx 200kgs + check if seller can load to your trailer Paul
  11. Hi Doug I have the 50 year old plastic pipe on my oil pressure gauge on my Vitesse Any ideas where I could purchase upgraded pipe . The oil pressure gauge is 2ins diameter and came from a Triumph Spitfire Paul
  12. UPDATE Finally accessed the steering UJ at the base of the steering column - Access is ni on impossible to reach from above as the top bolt as its covered by a chassis arm - my previous post identified that I had a loose lower bolt and a missing top bolt !!! so only the spline was holding the column to the steering rack. Access was carried out by removing the steering clamp under the dash and a connector which operates the crush zone . Its then a case of withdrawing the steering column top section into the cabin - plus removing cables etc . This is what I found. The top section of the steering UJ had no bolt because the spines were covering the bolt access - another explanation could be the splines jumped because there was no bolt . Worth a check on your Triumph ? Paul
  13. Hi Quick. Where did you get your solid mounts from Thanks Paul
  14. Vitesse MK2 Hi purchased a High Torque Starter Motor from the Club I understand this new starter has an integral starter solenoid , when swopping over is it best to remove existing solenoid as did read somewhere the old solenoid could be used saving some wiring Paul
  15. Vitesse mk2 Hi checking the steering and the rubbers on rack steering mounts are a little tired , is it worth moving to the solid alloy mounts offered by Canleys Any info appreciated Paul
  16. Hi , removed the Smiths Unit from my Vitesse Mk2 today and fitted a second hand Nissan Micra K2 fan - The Micra fan is much larger than the Smiths so the hole needs opening up. I used a paper template and drew a circle 14.5cms diameter , laid over the existing hole and sprayed primer showing the area to be cut. I found the easiest way was using an electric jig saw - For interested parties who wanted to see the Smith's box interior here are a couple of photos The above photo show the Heater Matrix in the correct position blocking off the inlet and outlet air flow . There are 2 cables coming out of the Nissan blower Blue White & Blue Red - The Blue Red being positive I tested the Blower on the bench and it was very effective much more powerful than the Smiths version - Though the principle is that air is sucked in from outside & blown through the Heater Matrix with reduce the air flow , so a clean Matrix is important - I plan to use Hoover piping to connect to the demisters , whilst the hoover pipe has some ribbing its no where as ribbed as other convoluted piping - Unfortunately the PO didnt fit the demister unit which sits under the dash and the connection was from the air distribution box to the demister aperture was done with 2" white plastic plumbing pipe - At the windscreen end the pipe had been heat crushed to create some pressure to demist - Needless to say this was pretty much ineffective - Now fitting the demister units which unfortunately mean the dash has to be removed - Unless somebody knows an easier way Paul
  17. Hi, the Nissan Micra K2 has 2 wires. Re your ? On air ducting . I used flexi hose pipe from an old hoover Paul
  18. The smiths Blower Motor is from a Vitesse Mk2 1969 so should be the same Paul
  19. Heres a pic of the the Smiths and the Nissan blowers - The Nissan is single speed plus heres a link from Darren Grove who has already made the conversion Paul
  20. You can make gaskets from sleeping bag rolls - heres a typical ink . You can also use the same 6mm foam for Gearbox cover gaskets - simply place the gearbox cover over the mat , mark & cut with scissors RE replacement blower , im just about to replace my Smiths Blower with one from a Nissan Micra - Heres an Ebay Link If you are not in hurry they can be cheaper especially if they are not Buy it Now The Nissan Blower is bigger in circumference so a degree of fettling is required though my bench tests clearly demonstrated the Nissan was much more powerful due to bigger motor and bigger fan - Ill dig up a pic and post later. The fuse rating of the Nissan Bloer is 15amps so adding a relay to cope with the load NB - heres a Nissan Blower at a good price Hope this helps Paul
  21. Hi Richard , yes the RB340 will be redundant though left in place to maintain original look . 70 amp cable makes sense though already made up the 42 amp section Paul
  22. Hi Richard , yes the existing dynamo cable is transferred direct to the stealth Paul
