  1. The "off the peg" PAS unit I have takes the triumph wheel exactly, so it might be?. Pete
  2. One of the "suggestions" that was passed to us "sprog" apprentices, when faced with recalcitrant fasteners, was to tighten the fastener first, the theory being that, in further stretching the Bolt/Stud you broke the "binding". pete
  3. There are many horror stories about exploding Vessels. As a pressure vessel examiner, I came across them from time to time. Not all had to do with explosive material. Some stick in the mind, the guy who tried to save my dying son was himself killed attempting to cut up and old railway tank wagon. A surveyor examining a Sewage Vessel being severely burned when it "fired". Calor vessels had to be certified "gas free" before we could gain entry, but one still killed a guy, without explosion either. There is a post on here (I think) ref; a fuel tank that exploded?. I even brazed up the seam on a Motorcycle tank. If was FULL of hot water, but now I would not even try it!. ( the ignorance of youth?). As for Chemically sealing tanks, I still wonder if the presence of Ethanol, would have any effect? Pete

Same applies here. I am one of the lucky one at the moment in that our village sees a bus every hour or so. Not early enough to get anyone to work before 8am (ish) and none after 8-9m. But those in the more remote hamlets and villages don`t have a service AT ALL. As it stands, when we have a Hospital Appointment, without a car, you would never make it. A taxi, is a £20 each way ride. Anyone on chemo;, and we know a few, faces a bill of over £100 a week JUST on transport. Badly thought through, rushed "policy?", and not confined to any particular political party either, just some are more enthusiastic than others. Pete
  5. Merc; Sprinter (typical of many cars/vans) Insert key in the ignition and turn to position II. Press the menu buttons. ... Press up arrow until you see Service A in xxx miles or Service B in xxx miles. Press the 0 reset button on the side of the instrument cluster and hold until you hear a beep. Pete.
  6. The following:- metal pin car door courtesy switches , brings up a load on Amazon? Obviously not the O/E. but nevertheless usable. As little as £3.99. free next day delivery, on many too?. The price of O/E ones?, somebody is extracting the Urine, In my humble opinion. Pete
  7. Had to really think about that. Its a LOT of years since I did DC theory. So one assumes the circuit is fed (initially) from the Ignition switch live?. To have a complete circuit it must return via the Alternator live? to show as a light on the Speedo?. However when the alternator output rises the lamp is then only in the Live wire and the light extinguishes, no return circuit?. Pete

Citizen Kahn, too has in recent times expanded the London area outward, what is galling to those who live inside, is the fact that they pay to go OUTSIDE, from home and pay again to get back in!. The even more scary bit in my view is that so many other Urban Authorities are watching this space. My personal view being they see it as a new form of taxation, what then will happen when all the "polluting vehicles" are removed from the road, and the lucrative revenue stream dry`s up?. Like with E-V`s they will need to find new streams. Do you think they really feel the motoring public is that stupid? Pete
  9. Interesting. I have amongst the "kit of parts" that is my 13/60, what appears to be a (nearly) new fuel tank. I have been mulling over the probability of treating the internal surfaces, in an attempt to prevent or delay the onset of corrosion. In the light of the change to higher and higher levels of Ethanol in fuel how might this affect such treatment?. Pete
  10. Some of the Sprinter ones are too. But the Airbag light is not, and the Seat belt warning light, (SRS) which is what I had, will not self/onboard reset either. So sadly I was between a rock and a hard place!.😒 Pete
  11. Currently no problems whatever. But it was "out" on and off Most of last evening. (error 404) Pete
  12. Those holding the wings on my Peugeot 107 are plastic plug type clips and self tap screws, with age they snap for a pastime!. Some even use plastic centres which are pulled tight to hold the panel. Pete

Huge area`s around Manchester, are currently earmarked to become an LEZ. Not just the urban but suburban and even greenfield. Courtesy of Andy Burnham. Those who LIVE there will have to pay to take their vehicles OUT of the area and BACK IN. Essentially a tax on car ownership by the back door. Burnham`s Idea of "leveling up" maybe?. I suggest the true result is more likely to be "dumming down", with trade fleeing out of the city, lost jobs, urban blight, etc;, time will tell. Other cities are watching. The time to buy 40+year old vehicles is now maybe?. As it stands anything older than Feb 1982?. Pete
  14. I`ve swapped a couple over the years, a Vitesse for one. Always used the existing light the bulb does not differentiate between live and earth so long as it has a circuit?. Might only be an issue if you had LED`s in the lamp holder? Pete
  15. I had reason to take the seats out of the Sprinter, ended up with a Failure light due to unplugging the seat wiring. Mercedes wanted £80+VAT to check and delete. Knowing I had to do the other seat later on. I went out an Bought an OBDI reader and reset them myself. Used it since several times on that and on another car, so far I am ahead of the game cost wise. Pete
  16. Back in the 60`s I had a spell at Hawkers factory at Brough. They where still building Bucaneers for South Africa. One Lunchtime a Guy fell of his bike just by the gatehouse, The security guy went to help him up, to find he had 2 5gallon drums of Paint, with a rope around his neck and balanced on a short plank across the cross bar, all under his Mac!!. The stuff that went out of there was legendary. One guy on Nights, would ride out about once every two weeks on his motorcycle with sidecar attached. He was making the sidecars at work, ride the bike in solo, attach side car and ride out next morning, He was selling to order!. Pete

  18. Surprisingly, I have a now 20+year old B&D NiCad Hammer drill. Which saw sterling service and abuse during a 2+ year house build which is still going, it can still punch it`s way through 2 leaf`s of house wall! with an 8 or 12mm drill from a standing start. I can still get the batteries off the net at around 15quid each. The same battery(s) run another 2 drill`s and the Hedge trimmer. All B&B. I understand the same batteries will fit the Early DeWalt NiCad kit as well?. Pete
  19. I thought they had got beyond that?. My early Vauxhaul (GM) Astra, had that issue, every time you shut down, the memory records where lost. But later cars retain "flash" memory and could still be interrogated via the OBDI port. Some to the extent that if you swapped out an engine the ECU had to go with it!. Happened with a FIat Punto I had, swapped engines and had to use the ECU from the donor. Vehicle battery locations are a nightmare. Fiat (Ducato) are under the cab floor with the Air bag ECU on top, has to be (carefully) removed to swap a a battery. The Sprinter one is likewise under the floor, Many are boxed in under driver/passenger seats, especially on vans. Getting them out without dead shorting the terminals is "tricky" Pete.

Someone posted about FORD having an electric motor "up and running". The one below is the "NEW" Transit E, Chassis cab unit. Some There is also a Promotional video on the net, It`s aimed at the "converter" market. Pete
  21. Affected Safari, Firefox and Edge. Pete
  22. What in my days on machine maintenance was referred to as "Bosh", no idea why?. It is/was a water based lubricant emulsion designed to remove excess heat and lubricate the tool(s). (And according to my Dermatologist, largely responsible for my tendency to intolerance to many "oils" these days!!), believe it or not we often washed our hands in it at the end of a shift! Modern H&SE would have gone potty!. Guys who smoked would transfer it from fingers to their "roll-ups" and continue smoking!.
  23. There was I am sure at one time a device you plugged into the Cigar lighter socket, assuming it was permanently live of course, connected to a 12V source it would keep the circuits, radio etc alive. My Peugeot 107, has a small "visor sized" solar panel permanently wired to the battery, it`s just enough to replace the ghost drains even at this time of year. The ones in HULL where known as "Whispering Death", the bugger`s would sneak up behind you silently, mind, us kids on our bikes would grab the platform handle and grab a free ride until the conductress stopped screaming epithets and rapped your knuckles and you let go!. Pete
  25. Good for Two or Three Dog beds?. I`ll have to check that one out, their getting a bit manky. I was considering swapping them out for new. Pete
