  1. I thought "odd" behaviour was the accepted Norm, here?, sorry guys, I`ll try harder in future.๐Ÿ™ Pete
  2. Maybe we are becoming too H&S conscious?. I come from the generation before seat belts, bench seats with 3 up?. Motorcycling without helmets and not always goggles either. Cars with umpteen lethal sharp edges in their design and fuel tanks just behind a cardboard partition. Footballers who actually headed wet leather balls! and played in what where basically "Pit Boots". Rugby players who actually rucked and scrummed properly. IS it progress?. Keep removing the risk`s and man will find others to fill the void. Can the planet afford to live in cocoons?. Captive Nuts in general are a right PITA, The ones on my 13/60 where no exception now replaced by through bolts and large/thick washers under the tub. Most seats rely on the seat belts for ultimately keeping the body/potential corpse in the vehicle. Unless the seat is designed otherwise. (The belts on the Sprinter Camper are fixed to the seats, so the mounting is (to say the least) "substantial"). The mounting points especially on the older of "our" cars are to a great extent not really fit for purpose anyway. So should we all move to 5 point harness and roll cages, with the associated bracing`s?. Just a bunch of "thoughts", less inhibited by the second glass of "red". Pete
  3. I like the first (top) pic. That looks like Burr Walnut.. Stick`s Like S***. will bond most "wood" these days even harder getting it off again!. The Vitesse had capping`s. No reason why you could not "pimp" a 13/60 with them? (mine). Apart from the "originality" argument?. Seeing that It already has electric PAS, and will get a brake servo added to the MX5 seats and retractable seat belts. I don't see that as an issue!. Pete
  4. I`ve been on the lookout for the running flashing strip lights. (For high level, on my Camper). Not available in the UK except for specific vehicles. However you can get them from China or the USA?. Pete
  5. I think there could be actually?. IF I find it I will post. Pete
  6. Sign in my Son`s Toilet (no idea why there?) "Don`t look back, Your not going that way".๐Ÿ˜ History only exists to learn from. Pete
  7. Mine (13/60) look like standard 21W Bulbs to my Eye?. If so the issue is likely to be Bad Earthing? Reducing the "seen" voltage at the lamp, rather than anything else, Cleaning the lens and or reflectors might help?. Colin reported better lights after he did a service on his. Ultimately a change to LED`s? Pete
  8. When dad passed, In the ensuing "clear-out". Lo and behold, a Pair of "mask`s" beautifully made in Aircraft Quality aluminum! and black paint. For what I assume was some prewar car. Best guess, dad supplied the ally, he was working on Skua`s back then, before conscription, and grandad, a sheet metal worker, did the rest. It think they too just went in the skip!. I know exactly what you mean about (not so smart) phones. Pete
  9. Known in the Heavy end of the "Trade", as a fitter`s friend. When all else fail`s?, the "go to" tool. Sadly, my 4ft set is now a museum piece as result of "overuse" shall we say!.๐Ÿ˜ But the 2ft pair survives, and a length of scaffold tube can be a "useful" thing!. I fortunately do have a 1" socket set, which covers larger fixtures, came in very handy when I had the American R-V`s and Dual wheels to remove. Pete
  10. Am I right in thinking that I have Only ever seen reference to type 14 or 16 in regard to Triumph spec`s?. Pete
  11. AHH!, so Ze famouse "Parisian" Lunch, still survives?.
  12. Just about any fine dust has a similar effect on the respiratory system. Hence I assume the need for PPE in many similar contexts. A good friend, now deceased, died from a similar condition after working with concrete all his life. Thousands Of Mine workers died from the "dust". not all where Cancers either. John likely has more insight than I on that one? Pete
  13. A light lunch with fresh warm bread from the boulangerie? A glass (or2) of something Red and Alcoholic?๐Ÿ‘ Just not the garlic in my case.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜. The Bike, The Beret, and the Strings Of Onions?. Pete
  14. I still have a set of Air horns that play "Colonel Bogey" and several other "tunes" somewhere kicking about. Goes back to my "Mid life crisis", when I had a bright Orange Capri Mk 2 which I called the colonel, and C-B radio etc;. Simple life really. I used to take it to Works B-S meetings just to annoy my line manager, after he gave me a bollocking for using my BMW motorcycle for work related journeys๐Ÿ˜ "not done you know, old boy, not done, bad for the image". Pete
  15. I (think) it was originally 5/16" o/d. I did away with mine, there was another back near the rear suspension, when I replaced the whole thing with one length of Copper 8mm. Make sure you get Genuine "Ethanol Proof" Hose though. Pete
  16. In 4 years and only 12K miles (low, due to covid) SWMBO`s car has "saved" 46Kg of Carbon๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™‚ Pete
  17. Now that is Most annoying, and they are SO small too (or at least SWMBO`s car is). The one`s on the Merc; are bigger. but they don't work anyway as I swapped the Merc; Radio for a Sony unit which in not "compatible"!. Pete
  18. Modern "poly-carbonate" type light fitting covers tend to degrade over time, they go misty/opaque. I`ve resorted to using fine cutting compounds on them to recover "brightness", trouble is once you do it it`s a repeat every 6 month or so job. Replacement units are an horrendous price!. Pete
  19. SWMBO`s car has the (irritating) "stop/start" feature. For the size of engine ,1200cc, the battery is huge. As big if not bigger than that on the 3L Merc; diesel.!! I would assume, the Amps that would deliver would indeed need some sort of "control" feature (relay?). Pete
  20. Poor casting quality, was I remember somewhat endemic in the late 50`s-60`s. I was apprentice at a Crane manufacturer, as such we did the "rounds" of all the various departments, doing Q-C on stock, showed up some awful casting issues, the rejection rate was high, some of the castings weighed in at over 2 tonnes, rectification was not an option either. Worse still was getting them on the machines and finding the defects on the last finish cuts!. The waste of time could be killing for the "bonus".!. That`s when I bailed out and went into the Merchant Navy!. BTW, does anyone do guaranteed High Tensile studs?. I would guess most are "stock" steels, and rolled rather than cut threads too?. Pete
  21. In truth, of course, they where not mandatory at the time, so not fitting them would be "original". That begs the question, should you want to, then there is no reason why you could not fit retractable belts?. The only "benefit" of statics are being "period". I have a full set of New Ones (retractable) for the 13/60. (One day, when finished!). Pete
  22. IF it is Section 11/12. it is unlikely that leaving it blank would raise any eyebrows. I remember registering an American R-V we brought from North Carolina circa 1997/8. Many of the sections we just left blank. The form was different though back then. The essentials are still likely to be those which will determine it`s Taxation class. I assume it will be "historic"?. Pete
  23. I`d be more concerned with over-stressing the Studs, There is a point at which the tensile strength starts to fail (the elastic limit). Too many years since I "did" material strength. But 66ft/lb is of the order of 30some percent higher than the makers design parameter. The point at which something is going to give?. My personal take is that exceeding the design parameter is trying to cure the wrong issue?. But then having just come back from Texas, I am only too aware the "yanks" have a different take on most things!. (BTW you never call a Texan a Yank, they (some) are still fighting the civil war!) Nice to see, the cause of the leak is found, "hydraulic" testing usual shows up the defect!!. Somewhat unusual though to have a stud hole with access to the water passage(s)?. The Person who drilled the hole went too deep?. or there is/was a Casting issue?. Pete
