  1. Spent yesterday on my wiring. Finally got some semblance of tidy, but the scotchloks of 30 years ago are going to defeat me. They are unsightly, but they have been there for so long and are working. I am starting to reason that they were put in when the dash was refitted and to replace them all, I will have to take out the dash and, apart from the time factor, I can do more harm than good!! I might just put it back together and try to forget what is there until something needs replacing and do the job properly then. To many none standard colours, to much unravelling, to little space. The moral...do the job properly in the first place.
  2. The perceived problems with the club shop are well documented on numerous threads here (search on shop or club shop). The lack of info etc and listed postal rates will be costing the club thousands a year. Various attempts have been made to sort this and I believe that this is ongoing with the new shop manager but in the meanwhile it's fleabay or the usual suspects who have a decent e-commerce system in place. Personally I feel that the club should join with one or more of the main suppliers to offer the suppliers prices at a discount and just have a direct drop from them, as indeed some fleabay merchants do using Amaz*n. No matter, we just have to shop around for the best price and hope that the quality is ok and that the parts are actually correct.
  3. I'm up for that. Everything is ready for the 2023 issue, just in case CoM let us down
  4. On the general subject of chrome. Is it really worth having something that's pitted and speckled rechromed, assuming that you can get a decent job, or is it best just to polish and protect as best and claim it's patina!! This is for real life, not a 'concours trailer queen'.
  5. I had the same problem with Peter James. Great for the Spit but when I mention the modern along with Lady BW's 'classic' Nissan Micra (X reg, 200 miles a year if it's lucky, 22,000 on the clock) they don't want to know but keep pushing multi car policies in their ads. I think that they just want to cherry pick the policies that they get the best commissions from
  6. Just spent a soul destroying afternoon. I decided, as a born again cheapskate to rewire the under dash courtesy lamps. After rounding up a rampaging herd of scotchloks, it became obvious that some other remedial action was needed so I took off the lamps for a look. The cheap and nasty copper connectors had been rewired with what looked like table lamp flex which had then been scotchloked into the loom. Disposed of the wire and attempted to crimp some decent thinwall cable onto the lamps along with proper bullet connectors. All rewired but then the plastic cover wouldn't fit without turning the cable sharply against the bulb terminal which would get hot. The call to eat settled it. Two new lamps are on their way. All the old cable and scotchloks have been stripped out, loom cables extended with bullet connectors where they had been cut short or damaged, and all is now ready for the new lamps. Radio and speaker cables tomorrow. Hope that they are easier to sort out...and yes...another herd of scotchloks in the distance to round up. Oh well.
  7. That looks looks smart. I want a Smiths analogue time clock, 52mm black face silver bezel, but the prices are more than I want to pay. There looks to be a high demand or scarce secondhand, as none on fleabay under £60.
  8. You don't suppose that a previous owner put some of those hideous snake oil, ball catalyst things (yes, I know, taking evasive action as I type) that we all hate and don't do anything, in the tank and that is what you can hear rolling about??!! Probably not, but the 'product' was mentioned on here a few weeks ago and it came to mind.
  9. Pete T - Thanks for the kind offer but I think that it might prove a little expensive to collect but the thought is very much appreciated. As for the MGBish, it was only when I saw them on another site that I realised the connection, sorry everyone. Further investigation appears to show two different bulb fittings in these. A traditional festoon (or LED replacement) or a BA15S bayonet type.
  10. For the main run of my fuel line I used 8mm copper microbore. No problems with it after 30 years but that's just put the kiss of death on it!!
  11. One of the absolute worst things about smoked bacon is the smell the day after...when you have none left!! Enough to make you rush out to by some more. I don't know of any other food that does that.
  12. Colin - Stupid ideas time. The next time you take off the bonnet, take off the tubes, get an old quilt, horse blanket, any sort of protection, over the engine and put the bonnet back on top of it. Then you can move the thing around, lift it here and there, up, down, front back, and see if there is ANY position where it might just fit decently, without being hampered by the tubes, hinges etc. Then you will have a better idea as to whether it will ever fit how you want it to. As I said, stupid ideas time!!
  13. Dead posh for a picnic. Took Pete days with the Autosol to make it shine like that.
  14. And I thought that my boot was a mess.
  15. Might just have found what I'm looking for... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172834182938 I'm sure that several listing for this unit are the same company under different names. Also, just found this one... https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-BHA5138 Isn't life strange??!!
  16. Peter T - Now that's given me an idea. If I can find a couple with built in rocker switches, then I can turn them off when I'm working with the doors open. Save on battery power and no danger of melting the plastic cover or generally overheating. Probably looking for the 'holy grail' but while I'm messing about under the dash thought it might be worth a look. On the great scotch lock hunt this afternoon. Got four spotted already......
  17. Thanks Pete, but I was thinking of something hat looked a bit more, well sort of, 'traditional', even though it will be under the parcel shelves. Don't know why, got rid of the modern looking radio too, mind you it ate my cassettes.
  18. Have we had a recent update for the forum. I am noticing that some photos are no longer showing. I suspect that they might have been cut and pasted rather than being uploaded to the forum. Has anyone else noticed anything or is it just my system?
  19. I always believe that mistakes happen, but the art of a true 'professional' is how you put it right. As for my recent sa!e at Halfrauds, superb technology. Ordered online, auto discount of voucher, email and text confirmation of order. Email and text when ready for collection, about half an hour later. But.....when I called to collect, no-one on the till, no-one watching the till, waited 5 minutes for someone to spot me, store like the Marie Celeste. Not good but not worth making a fuss.
  20. ..and I thought that the ones that I found on Fleabay were a bit expensive. Maybe I'll just leave well alone. My only worry with what I have is that I have vague memories that plastic cover on the ones that I have, melted on a previous car. That's why I got the LEDs. Must say that I was surprised at how hot the one I took out had got.
  21. I think that this is because some of them have been cut and pasted rather than copied from a file. The ones on your first post were of silencer parts and may also have just been cut and pasted. I have edited the post so the photos may work now. Maybe Invision have changed things regarding posting photos.
  22. Not sure about the quote there Colin?? I am looking for single stand alone bulb holders similar to the ones that I have (picture) only a bit bigger. a bit like this or this something that takes a 'proper' bulb and fits under the parcel shelf.
  23. Just a standard thin rubber band. Only there to hold the screws in place for the photo or the light falls to bits. The whole unit is held together by the two screws when screwed into, in my case, the parcel shelf
  24. I just rattle can painted mine with old formula black hammer finish, hammerite. Still in good nick 30+ years later. Yes some scratches and rub off on touching surfaces but on the whole not bad. Don't know what you would use paint wise these days though.
