  1. Many, many years ago a good friend of mine had a haulage business. Every six months or so he would sent out all his damaged chrome work to be rechromed. His daughter, who rode, used to include all her discarded horse shoes with the order. She said it was a handy present for friends getting married (the shoes not a bumper!!). Those were the days. All gone now.
  2. I would always put the bleed nipple at the highest point as any air would rise to that point and then be forced out during the bleed process. I would have thought that the arrangement in your photo would trap any air at the high point.
  3. Colin - Are you sure that was a loo and not the TARDIS with chameleon circuits actually working. Guitar is right handed so no good for Doug.
  4. Can anyone recommend a decent 'chrome' spray. Everything that I have tried comes out a sort of dull silver, not shiny. Trying to do a speed bezel. The example on the rattle can looks great but not the real end result.
  5. Pete - Yes I read that on a different thread. Will get out the oil and get the inspection plate off. As good a time a any to see if the access works. I said it was all back together ... for the time being. Didn't last long, did it! Can't remember when I last topped it up. No pools on the garage floor so hopefully not dripping too badly.
  6. I hope that's in dry dock, my snorkling equipment is somewhere in the loft and has probably perished with age. I believe DanMi does proper diving!!!!
  7. I always thought that jacking under the diff was frowned on, so always avoided doing so. Much more convenient for me to lift that way!
  8. Somewhere on here I compiled a list of fleabay suppliers who are known to club members along with their fleabay IDs. These are respected, trusted suppliers and not just floggers of cheap imported tat. Certainly worth a look at their current listings to keep costs down.   11. I agree with Dan. Drive and enjoy. Find out what needs dealing with on a day to day basis. Classics are expensive so only pay out what you need to, when you need to. This will hopefully spead the expense. It is all to easy to get carried away with a shopping list and end up with stacks of bits that seemed like a good idea at the time that you will put on 'in the future', 'when I have time'.
  12. I have the Securion with the short metal bracket on my MkIV. Once you get the receiver fitting to the correct angle it is very comfortable. I was lucky as all the fittings for an inertia belt were fitted but hidden with trim in mine. I just had to poke the hole through the vinyl and fit the take up unit upright on the floor as the instructions say. Only problem was finding the fitting under the folded hood but sorted that with a fitting on the B post.
  13. Coming along nicely. Shame about the fingers. Always keep a box of sticking plasters in the garage, if using those cut to size strips, precut a mixture of sizes to prevent bleeding everywhere while you find the scissors!
  14. Sat in the car this morning setting up the crook lock thingie on the gear stick as I forgot to tighten up the collar that goes around the gear stick. Put it in first gear and as it went into gear it sounded a bit loud and metallic. Sort of, louder than it used to be. Then I thought...Muppet, you have put everything back together without checking the oil in the gearbox "@@!!@@##!!". So I will now have to test my new access panel...or could it just be that it just sounds louder in the garage with the new Silentcoat insulation instead of the old plastic bag of foam. Maybe I'm just more aware of it, maybe I should just turn up the radio!!
  15. Colin - And I thought that my carpet was in poor condition, but it was installed in 1986 (I think). Maybe get a few more miles out of it before I complain. What do you mean John Hills are no longer trading?
  16. What happened to the fluffy pink steering wheel cover. Really disappointed now 😞
  17. I had to deal with a stack of refunds when the original lockdown was announced. Not an easy job, messy and time consuming. Good luck to them both.
  18. So here we are and she's all back together again. Tunnel cover restored, new battery, dashboard back in, new courtesy lights under the dash, wiring (a little bit) tidier, interior vacuumed!! All I have to do is take her out for a spin, when I can afford the petrol. All this is just in time for this, the 5,000th post, even though I received my 5th 'ring' a while ago. For all of you who have been following this thread for all this time, thank you for your help and guidance and for keeping with me. For those that may have been helped in any small way with my ramblings, 'pleased to be of service'. For those that I have upset, well, sorry. For those who follow this thread in the future...you are gluttons for punishment but thank you for sticking with me. My best wishes and kind regards to you all, whoever you are.

  21. I used the cling film method for my clutch master cylinder last year. Never though of the blue tak method but not sure that my lid would be air tight. I my case, I sealed the top with a couple of layers of cling film, strong elastic band around the top, unscrewed the union and immediately fitted a nipple cover over the end of the gland. The result was no loss of fluid and no need to bleed the clutch...BUT... do bleed the brakes when done. Clutch failure is annoying. Brake failure might be fatal.
