  1. Just the one unit in mine, I put a cheap 12v buzzer (from Maplins - remember them) across the contacts of the dashboard bulb to augment the 'tick tock'. Not the best method but it works. As for indicator leds, not tried those yet, but I think there are some problems with the led energising times. One of us will know properly.
  2. According to my handbook for a Spitfire 1300 mkIV (print date 4/74), specs are: Wheels - Steel disc type 4.5J rims, Tyres - home market Dunlop SP68 155-SR-13 radial ply/Goodyear G800 155-SR-13 radial Pressures - Front 21 lb/in Rear 26 lb/in Not sure if this helps in any way!!!
  3. Unfortunately no good reports from this particular unit. First one received worked on conventional setting but not on electronic. Good response from the seller who sent on a second unit very quickly. This was fitted and she started on both settings without any problems..... until I started moving. That's when the trouble started. Miss-fire, back-fire, poor revs, no revs. Embarrassingly pulled over, lid up, switch to conventional. Started without any trouble and we took off like the proverbial. So nil points for this one and I have put my old SX1000 back on for the time being. That works on conventional and on electronic only miss-fired occasionally, not every rev like the new unit.
  4. Look up Aidan's thread https://forum.tssc.org.uk/topic/2452-fuse-box-replacement/ If I can do it, anyone can. You'll be glad that you did
  5. Chris - Before you buy a new grease/oil gun search for Wanner throughout the forum or even pumpinator (don't ask, just search!!)
  6. My old connectors were crimped in as well. Struggled for ages before I took to the wire cutters and then put new connectors on for the new 10 fuse box.
  7. Welcome to the forum. The tssc club shop is highly recommended for this. Ring Angie to negotiate postage which can be a little high for small items. Avoid mail order auction sites as the tube may not be R9 despite what it says on the tin!!
  8. Must be really old, SPQR was an acronym from Ancient Rome. (Drift alert!!)
  9. The usual discussion about EP90 vs grease.. what else!!!
  10. Thanks Paul. Just put one in my fleabay basket for after the refund goes through. Is that one of the highly expensive, period modern, Chinese radios that are only about 3 inches deep? Do usb/bluetooth/fm and the washing up? Sorry, just found it on Jonathan's radio thread
  11. Sorry, forgot, we do have a thread for the weather... titled... 'joke' (also covers politics)
  12. Paul - I was wrong. Came to fit it and took off the red plastic indicator thingy. Immediately noticed the amount of red plastic 'swarf' on the threads of the bulb holder. Screwed it back on and worked the switch a couple of times... and off it came in my hand.. bulb and spring took off across the garage... threads stripped. Found all the bits, everything back in the box, going back tomorrow. File under heading of 'more rubbish parts'
  13. Pete - Time for a thread about the weather???
  14. I'm not sure if the forum search function is up to finding all these bits and pieces of drift. I think that's why new threads spring up regularly with the same enquires.
  15. I use distilled water from a dehumidifier (not from a combi boiler which is acidic) along with antifreeze and have no problem. Some also advocate adding central heating system corrosion inhibitor such a fernox, but I haven't tried that. There are also numerous 'brews' posted here (do a search) including soda crystals and coca cola (phosphoric acid), to clear out the waterways. I have also dropped the numberplate down.
  16. No circuit diagram, not much to report really. I will have a rumage around the internet to see what there is to see, but I am also a little suspicious about this unit. Could be 'snake oil' in an aluminium box!
  17. I think that I used Danish Oil on my dash after I had veneered it followed by simple wax polish like Aidan used.
  18. So, back to the plot. this afternoon I fitted my SX4000 electronic ignition unit This is the beast, as I mentioned, one green led, one switch, four leads out and no identifying markers marks etc. Looks like it is a generic unit, supplied ready to be branded and boxed as needed. It is not this one..... which is also branded as an SX4000 which has 2 leds. I thought that this was a little strange, but not to worry. What I did do was whip off the case for a quick look.. and found... .. not really very much. But not to worry. I fitted it with the appropriate connectors, took out my out SX1000 and fitted it. As mentioned, four wires, earth, to distributor, to coil + and coil -. Set to conventional and fired up no trouble. Switched off, switched to electronic, fired up again. A bit of an anti climax. I now need to take her out for a test drive and will report back. I have no real way of telling if the unit does anything more than switch on the green led when set to electronic, but it did come with a plug tested gadget .. which I have not tried out yet.
  19. Is that use of "rev counter" an 'Emerald Isle' Euphamism or something off Doug's other web-site. Careful, Kevin will be after us!
  20. What next, engine strip down, front suspension overhall, wedding cakes for beginners, cookery corner... is the forum really ready for a complete section on home baking, knitware, jam & preserves or making wine with a sparkle!! Maybe the Woman's Institute meets Top Gear?? Oh dear.... where will this drift off to?
  21. 25% discount on 6 bottles on Thursday, same at Asda. Lidl following next Thursday. Handy, but not quite the same as diy.
  22. Doug - Never thought I'd be discussing home made wine on my restoration thread (some drift). I am drinking rosehip from 2010, Lady BW, elderberry from 2012. All sourced locally. Steep fruit slowly and gently so as not to get a pectin haze, strain, press, add sugar to show an end alcohol content of about 16% add a high yield yeast, ferment out, rack, bottle in champagne type bottles in case of secondary fermention, leave for a couple of years at the back if the garage, drink, fall over. To paraphrase, I think, Ossie Osbourne... I don't have a drink problem... I drink, get drunk, fall over......there's no problem!!! Additional. When you pick elederberries either, pick the whole bunch complete with stalk, crush and strain off juice OR pick the whole bunch strip from stalk using a fork then crush, stew & extract juice. You can also add pectolaise to keep down any pectin haze. You can get a higher yield of juice by freezing the fruit first, as this ruptures the fruit solids releasing more liquid - this is why strawberries don't freeze well.
  23. Stupid question time. Is it possible to measure the strength of a spark discharge without exotic equipment? You know where this one is going. To test with electronic ignition as against conventional. Looking at all sorts of claims and just wondered if any could be easily proved. No great worries, just my mind wondering on a lovely summers evening with a glass of homebrewed wine.
