  1. Going by this interesting article a 25w 2.5ohm wire wound resistor from ebay would be more than sufficient... Heater Motor and Fan (mgb-stuff.org.uk)
  2. Yes same thread and shorter section goes into diff which leaves the longer threaded part to allow the release of the spring tension. Also the diff casing holes are not blind so screwing the long section into them might mean they interfere with the internals...
  3. Yes apparently the companies are having to reduce the octane of the base fuel to maintain the correct rating as the ethanol percentage is being increased...
  4. Ive had a bit of think about this and want to clarify the vac mechanism. As I understand it the purpose is to improve fuel consumption when cruising on partial throttle by advancing the timing and then when the throttle is opened or closed this advance is lost and the timing returns to that purely determined by the dizzy centrifugal weights acting on engine speed. The vac unit cant retard more than this and in fact on some versions of the six engine it wasnt even deemed necessary to fit them....
  5. I dont think its even worth asking Gary as they all 'reserve the right to change with no prior notice'! If it has an E number it could contain ethanol up to that percentage...

    Mintex Pads

I think it purely comes down to the fact that these are listed by Mintex as racing pads as opposed to their standard range and the message is to avoid giving the impression of endorsing racing on public roads...
  7. Wow Doug your gearbox must be super smooth or youve got fingers like bananas😁 Ive had to go to a comfortable great gear knob (think its later VW Golf?) to get the power and precision mine needs....
  8. Can you post photos of the set up and perhaps we can identify which component is wrong?
  9. I think Id try to find why this is happening Brett as if everything is standard and correctly installed it shouldnt. A bodge of a bodge has got to be the last resort😲

    Mintex Pads

The new ones look even better when you compare its ratings diagram against the old! Dont suppose theyll be any cheaper though😞

    GT6 Mk3 engine woes

I agree although if you watch the video very closely just as the engine stops, the noise is produced and at the same time the heater hose does a strange little wobble. Doesnt seem to come from engine movement as thats pretty stable so dont know if its related or what could cause it....
  12. Canleys list an 1100 for a USA Spitfire but only available to order. Also I see in places 9.5 and 10mm widths and suppose thats not enough to make a difference?
  13. In fact 11088 is listed for some Vitesse plus others and so is probably a lot easier to source. Would this squeeze on?
  14. eh I make 1150 - 35 = 1115 or 1150 - 75 = 1075 so I think you mean 1100? Looks like a size that is available👍
  15. ok then cut your old long belt, fit it and measure how much its ends overlap. Subtract that amount from 1150 and thats the new belt length you need👍
  16. The size for a mk2 vitesse is 1125 according to the suppliers but you might be best to measure the true distance with cord as dynamo/alternator fitment can make a difference...
  17. If it was the pistons stuck surely they wouldnt release with the loosening of the bleed valves? Are the rear drums similarly affected? Have you got a servo fitted and does it act on all the brakes?
  18. Yes and its not just distributor out but also the pedestal and drive gear which is locked by the camshaft gear: Then you need to make up something to engage with the tang on end of the oil pump shaft... As John says the problem is the pump cant pump air very well so needs to be filled but I think if its been assembled well its body should be sealed and any oil you get into it will just sit inside ready to start pumping. This is because when you look at the pump both its inlet and outlet come in from the top which is a clever design to always keep it filled👍
  19. I read it as having up to 5% ethanol and indeed this would be a good way to achieve the higher octane rating (ethanol increases octane)...
  20. Here you go: 12V FLASHER UNIT 3 PIN THERMAL MAX 47W AUTO CAR INDICATOR ELECTRONIC FL4 | eBay I was wrong though its 4.20 delivered. Dont know why they call it electronic as definitely same as original...
  21. Is it worth testing the wiring first? It would just be a case of putting a short from the B terminal in the diagram first to P (repeater light) and then to L (indicators tested with column switch to one side and then another). I replaced my flasher recently and its been fine, 5 pound something off eBay compared with over 20 for some which look suspiciously similar...
  22. Yes I wonder if, as discussed on here, the addition of ethanol in fuel has worsened the problem by making combustion take longer so its still happening when the exhaust valves open....
  23. Might be worth doing a compression test Dave to see if the valves are all sealing well. Also check for air leaks round the manifold. Whats your ignition timing set to?
  24. ok the manual says 3 - 5 thou end float so do up the nut with a 3 thou feeler gauge between it and the washer until theres no play. Then back off to the nearest split pin hole, insert pin and remove feeler....
  25. Sounds like s-nob-bery to me! Oh thats so good😨
