  1. The red rotor from the Club shop is fine in my 22D6. Gully
  2. I've never tried it, but I suspect even if you pull the engine and gearbox as a unit you'll need to take the tunnel out - or at the very least the H frame and carpets to release the gear lever gaiter. I also seem to recall the gearbox mounts are accessed from above (inside the tunnel), then there's the simpler access to the prop shaft bolts... Stripping out the interior and tunnel takes me around an hour (inc, using the radio) - but I had more practice than wanted a couple of years ago! Always takes longer to reinstall though. Gully
  3. You two should show some remorse... Gully
  4. Thanks for the link to your blog - a good read! Gully
  5. I had a caliper piston seal begin to weep having disturbed it when changing a wheel bearing last year. Brakes continued to work fine, but noticed the leak down the inside of the tyre and onto the ground, so replaced both calipers. They were due a change or rebuild anyway, as the inner Pistons were slightly sticky - cleaned up the disc nicely both sides when braking hard, but in general use progressive braking the outer Pistons seemed to be doing all the work and the inside of the discs showed some corrosion. 6. Welcome! That really is a nasty blue! Can't fault the paintwork logic on that evidence! ? Looking forward to the unfolding recommissioning story. Gully
  7. Quite happy with my Wanner thank you! ? Gully
  8. Thanks for the trunnion query replies. Having only recently cured pad pull back on my front calipers I don't immediately relish stripping the hub, so will put off for a little longer! I did try jacking the front and forcing the grease through with EP90 this morning, but to no avail. At least the offside has been oiled again! I plan to pick up a new near side trunnion and solder the cap prior to fitting. Thanks, Gully
  9. 18 months ago my car had an advisory for trunnion wear (slight play), so I authorised a Triumph specialist on the Herts border to replace it. When I collected the car and asked the inevitable oil / grease question they told me that they had pumped it full of CV grease on the basis that 'all the new ones leak the oil out and new grease it okay'. I've tried a couple of times with my Wanner gun to force the grease out with EP90, but to no avail (although I've not yet tried it with the front jacked up and the wheels dangling), so may well strip the near side this weekend to de-grease and oil. The workshop manual suggests one needs to remove the hub, backplate etc - is this really necessary to pop the trunnion out of the wishbone and unscrew it from the vertical link? Based on the labour period charged for the replacement and no evidence of the calipers having been removed recently when I changed them 6 months ago, I suspect there is a work around? Many thanks, Gully
  10. ROFL - clearly a victim of fake news! ? Joking aside, just goes to show the value of the MOT inspection. Gully
  11. Welcome - and get that brake cylinder fixed ASAP: you've nearly missed the summer! ? Gully
  12. The couple who own the Wedgewood Blue Mk 2 have been along a few times to the Herts & Beds TSSC club night. I seem to recall them moving up towards Biggleswade, so not seen them recently. Good to know they and their car are still around. I planned on going to the Halls Green picnic on Saturday, but decided I'd rather be driving than sitting in a field so covered 60 odd miles around Herts, Beds and Cambs instead! Gully
  13. I regret not running my GT6 down the strip at Triumphest a couple of years ago, but I didn't want to put my diff through it at the time! Rebuilt now - would have been good to have a spirited run up the hill at Shelsley Walsh, but clashes with a prior commitment so it's a saving grace it's only a parade anyway! Good looking Vitesse 6 ? Gully
  14. Diversion suggests you drive a different route, 'find another way' is asking you to give up all hope and leave your car behind! Gully
  15. I had my OD Mk 3 GT6 diff rebuilt as a 3.63:1 - it's a great compromise balance between acceleration and cruising. Gully

    Thanks

    Excellent! Well done! Gully
  17. Just a quick thought - with the two litre engine and GT6 gearbox, even with overdrive you may find the 4.1 diff ratio a little short. I think the 2L Vitesse had a 3.89 ratio diff, as did the GT6 with overdrive (the latter 3.27 without OD). You'll certainly be quick off the mark if you don't change it, but it may become quite frantic as a cruising car! Gully
  18. Thanks, Richard. However, Dave and Paul got in before you earlier in the thread (see Page 1) with dimensions and photos alongside a tape measure. Those, in conjunction with what my dipstick was telling me when I refilled the oil, gave me the confidence to add a new full mark to my dipstick. The clincher that I have a saloon dipstick seems to be the handle length. Gully
  19. Success! Removed each pad in turn yesterday, pumped each piston out, gave the seals a squirt of brake cleaner, pushed them back and lo and behold my pedal travel is shortened back to how it was before the calipers were replaced. Thanks for the tips! Gully
  20. Just bear in mind that they will have a smaller rolling radius, so your speedo will read high. Not sure if the mintylamb website calculator is up and running again, but Google the site as there is a calculator on there that will tell you the difference that tyre size will make (it's not huge). TWIDDLE DAY 2

Many thanks to Pete and Ray (and John) for an interesting and informative day! Thanks too to the TSSC HQ team for their efforts in making us all so welcome ?? Gully
  22. Okay - it looks as though I have a saloon 2 litre dipstick! Mine is long handled and measures 10 1/2 inches to the top mark and 11 1/2 to the bottom mark, meaning full on my dipstick is just above the low mark on the right dipstick. I've attached a couple of pictures below. Thanks all for you help. I shall make some indentations in the correct places! Gully
  23. Thank you for the dimensions and pictures! Once mine cools down from the run back from Twiddle Day I shall investigate and report back! Gully
  24. I've always been slightly suspicious that the dipstick on my GT6 is too long. I changed the oil today and less than 4 litres came out - it was registering 'full' before I ran it to warm the oil before draining. Left it for plenty of time to drain and poured the oil canister contents into the bowl too. Measured out 4 litres (capacity shown as 4.5 litres in the handbook), added it, checked the oil level and found it sitting a reasonable amount above the top mark on the dipstick. So my question is - does anyone have the dipstick dimensions for the GT6, please? Length, top and bottom marks. Part number is 127653 and it's common to the Vitesse 2 litre. Guessing I may have a saloon or TR part. I may be checking dipsticks at Twiddle Day! Thanks, Gully
