  1. Bought mine in Tamworth and drove it back to Hertfordshire via the M6 and M1 without worrying whether or not I'd make it - don't think it even occurred to me! Gully
  2. I do like the front end of the Dolly! Gully
  3. I bought mine earlier in the year direct from the man himself - Fuzz Townsend - on his stand at Chateau Impney Hill Climb! Gully
  4. Welcome! Grew up in Stubbington, where my parents still live - regularly wander down to Lee when I visit them, so will keep my eyes open for a white striped, Damson Vitesse! Gully
  5. From recollection eurocarparts will list lots of Triumph motorcycles, the Acclaim and TR7. Never found anything earlier in their listings. Gully
  6. Just some musing - no knowledge! Was the 1500 not used in the MG Midget? Not sure if changes were made to the ancillaries to mate Triumph and MG components? Gully
  7. Welcome aboard! That's some toy cupboard... ? Gully
  8. I suspect there's some confusion going on when people are reading the info on triumphspitfire.com. I trawled the site repeatedly trying to find the info on engine numbers indicated above and I can't! What it states in the detail table is that commission KE101 began in 1971 - ergo leaving the October to December 1970 cars with earlier numbers. The site also says on the summary page that commissions KE0001 to KE04596 were issued in 1971. Clearly both can't be right! What it doesn't do (that I can find) is say anything other than the engine references being KE. Gully
  9. Took me about 3 different caps to find one deep enough to pressurise. The ones that are too short seal on the filler neck, so no leakage, but allow the water to pass into the expansion bottle very quickly as the car warms up and the coolant expands. Gully
  10. I wondered if Doug was onto something, as my car is commission number 83 with engine KE184HE - 101 apart! I've just flicked through the Richard Dredge and Graham Robson books on the Spitfire and GT6, along with John Thomason's Guide to Originality and none of them mention the engine numbering - only the prefix KE for the Mk 3. Gully
  11. I considered a Mk III GT6 in Java Green before buying mine - beautiful colour, but the body had been restored off the chassis and the gaps really were all over the place. From time to time I hanker after a Stag - in Java Green... Gully
  12. Mine is without the pipe too - although it is shown on the parts diagram. Main issue in not having it is when the petrol pump cuts off late and the excess fuel exits the filler neck into the rear wing, whereupon it evaporates and stinks out the car! Gully
  13. Sounds as though you're absolutely fine on temps - wouldn't mess any further! I would, however, sort the pinking - lean running can lead to hotter running. Gully PS. In this hot weather my GT6 runs around the 2/3 mark and I can watch the temperature modulation of the thermostat on the gauge. Even sitting in traffic on a hot day it doesn't move above 3/4 - 40+ years old gauges really are just an indication. Many moderns don't even have them - just a warning light - and those that do have heavily damped ones
  14. I see on Facebook that Jigsaw Racing is looking after the car whilst it's over here. Gully
  15. No personal experience, but I have heard on the grapevine that some of them are too tall and hit the underside of the bonnet. Gully
  16. Seem to recall it being in the tens of pounds, but subject to them having an appropriate filler neck. Gully

    The Apocalypse

According to the Radio 4 forecast tonight they have low confidence in the weekend's weather predictions due to tropical air approaching. Looks like sunshine and light showers at the moment, which should make the touring cars at Rockingham interesting ? No doubt Monday's weather 'forecast' will major on what happened over the weekend! Gully
  18. My GT6 used to judder when reversing - I found the offside engine mount had de-bonded. Having recently replaced it, the judder has gone, so worth a look before you delve deeply unnecessarily. Gully
  19. I generally view the forum on a tablet (iPad) and there's an Unread Content button top right of the boards which lists most recent first. Hope that helps! Gully

Standard fitment for the Lotus Europa was individual letters mounted on the grill mesh. Gully
  21. Welcome aboard! If you get a chance to post some pictures of your cars that would be great ? Gully
  22. I'm putting off changing my clutch slave cylinder as I can't face the tunnel out hassle in this warm weather. Must be the final component that hasn't been changed over the past 5 years! What's really irritating is that 14 months ago I put it back together so well I needed to use the heater through the winter! Gully
  23. Kempston Radiators at Bedford seem a good bet. I need to drop my 'spare' rad into them at some point to get the filler neck replaced as the flange over which the cap tightens has fractured. It also has a very small leak on the core, which is irritating as it occurred about 15 months after I'd bought it as a recored / refurbished / upgraded one (via an advert in The Courier). I did speak to them about it a while ago and they quoted me a reasonable amount, but not got around to delivering it to them after I acquired a NOS one from a local club member. A friend of mine in Tewin recommended them - they've done a couple of classic and race car rads for him over the past few years. Gully
  24. It was the Ye Three Fyshes in Turvey alongside the river. Driven past on a few occasions since and there's never been a band playing! Gully
