I recently replaced the Vitesse's original sender with a locally supplied Tridon unit listed as a GTR108 replacement, absolutely useless as it only just gets off zero rather than the originals 1/2 range. Usual aftermarket rubbish!

the small size of the two flexible inlet pipes from the front of the car to the air filter box always seemed Mickey Mouse to me such that in reality there wasn't any ram effect cold air yes. Modern cars with the air inlet pipework are significantly bigger. I always remember how well my car ran on a dark cold foggy night driving across the York Moors home in the mid 60's.

Scrapman during the 3 rail conversions did you use the 3 rail reverse distance piece (137687) or single rail reverse distance piece (22G1435). I used the single rail 22G1435 and had to do serious surgery on the reverse Operating Lever 106254, cutting it belting it forward and weld it up shifting the top locating pin for the gear selectors in the lever more than 1/4in in forward! I've never been happy with this mod and would love to know what others have done in fitting the single rail internals innto a 3 rail gearbox case, I did use a GT6 four syncro gearbox case! Hoping you can remember which reverse distance piece you used in the conversions and what if any alteration you had to make to the reverse operating lever.

Here's my DIY Vitesse Heater Bleed Valve, a 1/2in Yorkshire Tee with soldered in spigot pipes/bend and a brass threaded insert in the offtake with brass bolt inserted just loosen to bleed system and its higher than any other fitting. Idea sourced from a Renault R8 Gordini I had in Montreal in 67, whilst building a BP oil refinery there!

Early 70's at 5AM enroute from Stokesley to Teesside Airport for wife to fly to Belgrade my Mk2 Vitesse oil pressure dropped from its normal 70psi+ to 40psi I reasoned it still had oil so pushed on. Dropped wife off, checked there were no oil leaks so reasoned it must be the pressure relief valve so dismantled it, all looked OK, no damage, put a rag down to clean seat no debris put it all back together & fired her up and normal 70+ oil pressure and in 50 years never had a repeat & the engine has never been out, rebuilt, or had an issue. So what caused the valve to hold open I'll never know! I have subsequently checked the length of the spring and its within tolerences, I even fitted a slightly longer NOS one, but same 70+ oil pressure so reverted back to the original.

I had a Corsair as a work car when working in Scotland quite a good car went well and reliable. I must admit to slightly hitting the outer front corners ie flasher lights a few times,

I used the Dyno bracket to mount the Alternator BUT suitably lightened with some big holes but still strong.

I had a 66 Herald 1200 Conv around 68 it snapped an axle backing out of our drive at the gutter intersection, on inspection the crack showed signs of rust on the shear face so presumably a manufacture problem, original axle never removed. Fitted a new axle never had another problem on various small chassis Triumphs since! I currently have 3 spare axles but no idea of their rotational fitment so am wary in using them!

I get my silicone fluid from motor bike shops, dearer than Dot4 but not prohibitive. Always carry 2/500ml containers on the shelf in case I need it in a hurry. I choose silicon as I had just. Re sprayed the bulkhead and wanted to avoid damage.

Are Replacement Propshafts Balanced?
Peter Truman replied to JonLow's topic in Drivetrain & Rear Axle
I've had two new prop shafts made locally here by Hardy Spicer both been good, one for Spit and the other a Sprint. I have an original Triumph Spit Prop which doesn't have a sliding spline but 4 V grooves with around 9 to 10 cylindrical bearings in each groove it each bearing being at right to each other, any experience on their performance and longlevity. -
Nice wood with a great finish appropriate for a Jagnut!

I fear it would have to be a substantial increase in the seals profile to stretch to cover the gap shown at the top. As you said hopefully the targa roof panel might tighten things up?

I know this is sacrilege but do you think you need a centre tie between top and bottom of the frame to stop it spreading, spread may be more pertinent with a fiber glass rather than cast alloy Surrey Top. I quite liked the glass joiner in the rear windows of the Auntie Rovers of the 50’s

On both the Vitesse & Spit the old can style works with 2 LED & 2 incandescent bulbs. I did previously have an electronic flasher on the Vitesse but it failed, replaced it with a new like electronic style, which had a very irregular flasher operation, so reverted back to an old Lucas can and all OK now!

Didn't know you followed Australian politics too! Ha country doesn't matter there all the same!

Both Spit Mk2 & Vitesse Mk2 are as Non member states, first pull all exterior lights, second pull all lights and dash lights on.

Wanner great guns had mine 60 years purchased when I was 17 to grease scooter cables, with a special tool to force grease down the cables nowadays when filled with oil does slowly leak so relegated to grease.

Yep funny what customs pick up! When I returned to Aus from the UK in 74 in our luggage the Vitesse's Phillips car slot in portable radio customs honed in on that pulling the back off removing batteries they went just short of pulling it apart, need not have worried as it was pinched from the rented house in a very posh suburb within the first 6 months here! My worst experience with customs was at Heathrow as a 14 year old travelling by myself from Aus to visit the relatives over Christmas holidays, customs had great glee as they went through both of my cases full of Christmas presents for the relo's, but I think it was more we'll get the little prick as I was quite smart, new suit, new luggage, and Harold the company chauffeur had been let thro to help me & he being in his uniform, anyway after that the long run up the A1 North to Teesside with stops for tea at the truckies cafe's and finally to the grandparents Norton terraced house!!!
