  1. Just come up on ebay here in Aus and advertised as a Herald Radio $20 start price Item 255468629952 Radio obviously not the usual one fitted in the 70/s big saloons, it's obviously early 60's vintage. The face lists the available stations of the time by the Aus States
  2. Never heard of deprived areas getting discounted fuel, what and who defines deprived, I lived & worked in Stockton & Middlesbrough area so am I deprived? Seeing the disparity in pricing btwn deprived and NORMAL areas, think I'd be annoyed! Our Australian federal govt has just cut their fuel excise tax in half by > 20c per litre (around $1.78/litre now) to help ALL us deprived citizens! Oh there's a Federal Election in less than 2 months, aren't I cynical!
  3. I've found the old style Spit Mk2 seats quite comfortable & can go 3hrs without a stop, they have been re-upholstered with new foams and covers by a local upholsterer (daughters car and her FIL is the upholsterer.)
  4. My Mk2 has a washer (around 1/16in) on the stub axle locknut & it's never been removed in 54 years, had the beast 50 of those years!
  5. Here's a similar graphical representation of Iain's table of the different needles profile variation that I did when converting a Spit 1500 from a single 150CD Strom carb to twins, and I only had twin SU carb needle references.
  6. I had a similar problem eg it’s my Sprint it has graphite or something ht cables and the distributor end the cable is held/connected with little pins/needles these burnt around there connection point cut the cable and traffic all ok for a few days then again. solution was some new cables made by the local ignition people
  7. Re soldering of spade or bullet connections question what do you do when you splice a new wire in I twist the two wires together and solder then shrink wrap.
  8. I buy from a wholesaler over the counter so I see the product. like you I use eyelets that have been crimp plastic after removing the coloured plastic cover and solder them with shrink on to reinforce joint.
  9. Colin a pity I'm so far away about 10 years ago I brought packets of 500 brass solder/crimp 6.4mm spades and a pkt of 500 slip on clear plastic covers, I reckon I still have a hundred left after supplying members of my local club here. Hate those coloured crimps, not protected enough, and look cheap and amateurish. Must admit since buying a good quality crimper I have been crimping some the brass spades, where the two wings fold into each other as per originals, failure rate about 1 in 5, so then I solder!
  10. Just had to buy another dozen double (4way) bullet bayonets as my last foray under the dash of the Vitesse resulted in the old bayonet inner spring clips breaking! I also where I could cleaned the bullets with the Dremmel and small wire brush then copper grease for easy installation & hopefully longlevity. luckily found a local supplier at 70c ea a lot cheaper than last time ex UK with postage
  11. Ditto on a daily driver 2500TC in 78 fortunately I had the Vitesse in the garage and temporarily ratted the pieces till I organised spares.
  12. I think some Aus CKD models were given chrome over bumpers in place of the rubber ones they looked good!
  13. Been there but cheated! I cut the thread off leaving around 3/4in on the cable end then threaded the cable thro and used a female threaded bar barrel joiner to reattach the threaded bar I’d cut off with 1/2 nut locknuts. Where there’s a will there’s a way, looks tidy and works, but if you can do it as John says it’s original and obviously better.
  14. I fitted a 1500 throttle assembly to the daughters Mk2 Spit with std carbs just to get rid of that oorible heavy rod n lever system which jerked the throttle every time I went over a speed hump! As Pete says use a bike cable as there stainless cables you cannot solder the nipple on need a solderless nipple on the carb end. Re mounting the 1500 pedal assembly it was easy can’t remember where the bracket was mounted on the vertical I think, after sorting out where I wanted the hole in the horiz part of the bulkhead for the cable to pass thro it works smoothly and has been there 20 years. keep thinking of converting the Mk2 Vitesse to get rid of the organ pedal!
  15. I thought more about the diodes and I reckon your correct, the Lucas hazard flasher disconnects the ign supply to the column indicator switch and uses a battery supply to a separate hazard flasher can, the buzzer is connected to the two flasher wires RH & LH at the same point as the hazard supply connects to both wires, by 2/4 way bullet connectors one in each wire. I use LED rear flashers ie min load could that be the issue.
  16. I brought 3 sets, quick delivery to Aus and i fitted one today worked well quite audible buzzer BUT there is an issue when fitted in conjunction/parallel with the original Triumph Lucas push/pull 4 way emergency flasher when using the emergency flashers the buzzer beeps too! but ok emergency flasher doesn't activate when indicators used normally . I think Diodes in each feeder wire from the buzzer to the main LH/RH feeder wires, could fix the problem or otherwise wire buzzer maybe into 3rd pin of flasher can ie dash indicator light source. Pete L I've got 9 spare Scotch Locks give me a postage address!! Back to the drawing board.
  17. there are still subtle differences eg the stregthening ribs on the inside of the boss, number and orientation, maybe years of production.
  18. Ironically the Spitfire models 4 to Mk3 CKD assembled here in Melbourne Aus by AMI the bodies were assembled from individual Triumph panels and the whole body phospheric acid dipped to clean then electro statically dipped in primer so all parts of the body and cavities were fully protected, ironical because our climate and winter road protection didn't cause rampant corrosion yet our cars were better protected than the home market! Maybe this additional protection was a carry over of AMI's Mercedes car assembly undertaken at the same time. AMI assembled Triumph, Mercedes, Rambler and Toyota models locally. The chassis were not treated just the std Triumph chassis black as they were shipped ex UK fully assembled, I have an original Aus 1964 AMI supplied spare chassis in the garage which has no internal & generally only light surface corrosion, only the drivers front outrigger has rusted thro a little where at some time it was partially buried in the ground, but the backbone is like new.
  19. I had a strange noise just last week in the Sprint a tap tap at low revs but it went as the engine revved. I changed the Alternator but noise was still there I couldn’t locate any rotational cause eg cam shaft, water pump, pistons, etc so I removed the rocker cover and eventually found the problem the bracket used to lock the overhead cam when removing the head had broken off due to fatigue whilst it shouldn’t be in contact with anything in normal operation just sit there clear of the cam sprocket springing forward of the camshaft sprocket but during a previous rebuilt 20 plus years ago appears it hadn’t been set up correctly was fouling the bolt used to lock the cam sprocket thereby working back and forward hence fatigue. luckily I located the failure before any real damage was done and removed the broken bracket all good engine now back to normal but no bracket so any future rebuild could be tricky!
  20. How many spare Scotchlocks have you accumulated over the years Pete. I’ll whisper it! I carry a few in my car onboard spares just in case of emergencies haven’t had to drop to those depths yet tho!
  21. I did my Vitesse’s passenger door handle 50 years ago had to change the handle button for a drivers button and modify the key barrel so it was common with the drivers door and ignition. Had to change the handle after scraping it on the passenger side concrete barrier on the entry ramp at the M1 London end, after a weeks work in London all we wanted was to get out and back up north, Stockton, did that run weekly for 6 months so we really did push it Monday morning to London Friday arvo from London.
  22. Your right daughter chassis red as nd not as noticable
  23. There appears to be extra brackets on the inside of the chassis each side of the alloy diff casing in front of the drive shafts, what's it's purpose?
  24. Probably no clamps originally on the tank delivery to engine mounted mech pump as they were on the suction line and hence only negative pressure but clips on the pressure or delivery to carbs. As Pete says if suction hoses not tight then there’s a potential to suck air so nowadays worth clamping all rubber hoses. just a thought maybe not necessary if pipes are swaged at joints so hoses pushed over the enlarged pipe.
  25. Found the contact for the replacement Number Plate Lens's, David on email dmwythe@aol.com I think the cost was around 10quid. finaly found the spare Repair Kit, see pic below Hope this doesn't break any rules
