daverclasper
Hi. On my Vitesse, when sorting out some surface rust on seams, I have noticed some brazing. I read recently that the factory used brazing on some areas. Is this correct? Ta, Dave
Mark B
Definately came across original brazing on Vitesse Spits and gt6, usually found when grinding surfaces to fit new panels. Sections of the door skins, windscreen frame guttering rear deck corners etc. Maybe used to track panels in place before spot welding, or areas that may have distorted using hotter welds, not sure? Pete Lewis
braze and lead loading was a common use in body in white production throughout the trade for generations Pete not unusual
KevinR
The joint on the sill with the A post was brazed in the factory as it couldn't be spot welded

Graham C
I found brazing on the sill where it joins the b post on my spitfire 1500, the joint was not welded but held in place by the brazing and the spot welds on the flanges. PeteH
Top front corner of the Door panels, where it buts up against the Quarterlight frame, on both doors of my 13/60. Back in the 70`s, I was involved with rally prep on Mk1 Escorts, Bare tub`s would be turned upside down and the longitudinals brazed at intervals. It had been found that the Spotweld`s where failing when (Ab)used on forest stages. welding produced embritalment and fails in the HAZ. Pete. Peter Truman
I also thought the rear deck panel to wings of the Vitesse and Spitfire were brazed where the boot drainage Chanel’s meet Aus AMC CKD Spitfire assembly also had brazing where the brake master cylinder strengthening brackets meet the vertical part of the bulkhead
