PeterH
Any tips on removing old contact adhesive off metal prior to sticking on new trim. I'm reluctant to use thinners as the car paint is cellulose.

Pete If you get the trigger (brilliant things) put tape sticky side out around part that clips to the can, that you don't glue everyone. Don't ask me how i know that? Tony. PeterH
Petrol seems to be working. Its not helped by someone in the past on a previous respray painted over the original old adhesive.

Badwolf
Evostik actually make a fluid to remove excess that has dried on. I use it alot for removal of label glue, 'peelable' labels that don't and loads of other stuff. My favourites are, evostick remover, lighter fuel, parrafin, white spirit, carbon terachloride ( very dodgy stuff), petrol and... if you can find it, Bunny's miracle ink remover. You could mix them all together, it would probably go off bang.

Come 'snap' time and the smell of Swarfega and diesel still makes me hungry. (Something to do with Pavlov and dogs ? )

Probably petrol with an expensive label. I can confirm petrol works, my hands are reeking of it after gluing trim panels to Triumphs out in the garage then cleaning off excess Evostik with petrol, and then scrubbing my hands. Whatever scent was on the handwash is completely overwhelmed by unleaded.
JohnD
Try brake cleaner! Much less smelly than petrol, and if you lash out on proper refillable Wurth spray, you'll find it so useful for so many other jobs. I'm never without one now! https://www.amazon.co.uk/WURTH-BRAKE-CLEANER-PUMP-DISPENSER/dp/B01G8HYWE8/ref=pd_lpo_263_t_0/257-8323130-6698029?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01G8HYWE8&pd_rd_r=da1f3e2f-e8ca-48c8-8bc2-31592d5e0d76&pd_rd_w=OzAom&pd_rd_wg=uNRvA&pf_rd_p=7b8e3b03-1439-4489-abd4-4a138cf4eca6&pf_rd_r=AFRAJDE26ACCN18JKF81&psc=1&refRID=AFRAJDE26ACCN18JKF81
Peter Truman
Can you buy brake cleaner in a bottle I’ve only seen/purchased it in an aerosol can, gawd it’s cold when you get it on your hands. Similar carby clean very cold but both very effective in doing their job.

Pete Lewis
yes mine also, plus the screenwash concentrate you must get a proper pump can for the cleaner as it will dissolve most household ones pete
dougbgt6
I bought my new carpets from Coverdale along with their aerosol spray glue and glue remover. Disappointingly the glue doesn't smell of Evostick, no smell at all! However both are very effective. Doug
Graham C
Doug, What was Coverdale quality like? Are they sown together or formed like the originals. Prices for GT6 ones are very reasonable. Graham
dougbgt6
I got Coverdale because they’re the only ones doing the colour I wanted, chestnut 🌰 and sadly only available in loose fit 100% wool, expensive! They are loose fit and do need some fettling, oversized, better than under sized I guess, but some trimming back required. Loose carpets work fine in a GT6 everything overlaps, the new tunnel carpet just drapes over the tunnel the same as the original. But the wheel arches are difficult, the carpet has to curve in two plains and to do this the carpet is cut and re-stitched. It fits the curves, but it’s visible. Had the colour been available in fitted I might have got those for the sake of the wheel arches. Having said that my brother got acrylic fitted from Coverdale for his Spitfire and was unhappy with the fit, much more difficult to adjust. alan.gilbert_6384
I always use the wife's nail varnish remover (i say the wife's ) acetone works wonders on most glues including that horrible expanding stuff, that says it can only be mechanically removed, this ant true.
