  1. Well done Colin, looking good. I tried to adjust the height on my 13/60 bonnet last Sunday and ran out of threads on the cone, must be a crappy repro one. Steve
  2. No particular experience of MK 3 but they are supposed to be more punchy than others,I would suggest getting everything optimised would be a good start, points, condenser, timing, carbs setup etc. Should be emminently driveable. Dont start throwing "upgrades" at it as you will end up going backwards. Mine don`t like it if you don`t use them so I would always recommend more use if possible. Steve
  3. I`m pretty sure that non vented cap will not help the PCV to work correctly, but as Iain says check the rocker vent is clear as well. Steve
  4. Hi Colin, I have the same on both my Herald and Vitesse with an adaptor for DAB.Where is yours mounted?, mine are sort of on the corner in line with screen pillar and the lower part goes down the recess at the side where the cover trim is so no interference and no cable showing. Steve
  5. Where is oil spurting out?, unusual to have that much at the top unless as Pete said the breather is completely blocked. Does it smoke from the exhaust?. Might be worth a compression test. S
  6. There will likely be a braided pipe coming from near the oil pressure switch above the filter which goes to a banjo bolt on the back of the cylinder head. If not get a photo of the whole engine from the side. Steve
  7. Does it have an external oil feed on the back of the head?, this can cause too much oil in the top of the engine. Unnecessary on most engines. Steve
  8. I see you have HS6 carbs on a Long tract manifold,is this a 2.5 engine?, if not I would remove the little filter and put it back to standard. Steve
  9. Try Wins in East Grinstead for loads of second hand spares. https://www.winsinternational.co.uk/ Steve
  10. It is a MK 1,all you need is wishbone brackets welded on and to move the tie bar mountings inboard, not too bad. Steve
  11. Me either, snapped a driveshaft once though, now got CV shafts. Just to add for the original poster, I also have a Herald with a 1500 engine and J type O/D gearbox with a 3:63 diff and it`s a great combo. Steve
  12. I have a 3:27 in my 2.5L Vitesse, putting 170ish Bhp through it, no breakages yet, it does have a stronger carrier in it (TR7?). Steve
  13. Did you fit the spacer?, i tried it without and it made an awful noise dragging on the flywheel not disengaging. Steve
  14. Aren`t those "support Brackets" Bulkhead floor mounting brackets?. Steve
  15. Nice looking car,i have a 13/60 and a Valencia Blue Vitesse,is that the colour of yours?, looks slightly different to mine. the Herald decided to play up last time i drove it on Friday, misfiring going up a hill, last time it did that was 2014 on the Round Britain run, that was fuel hose letting air. Steve
  16. I like stripes on my 2 lawn areas so i renovated an old petrol mower with a roller. S
  17. Yes not current, proximity to the manifold. S
  18. I must take a photo of mine, it`s in a lockup. I did away with the bulkhead solenoid and ran a new heavy duty cable from the starter to the battery terminal, the thin trigger wire does show signs of high heat as the outer seems hard and brittle, but easy to replace. S
  19. Yes cover out makes it easy, i don`t use sealant either, just foam strips, 10 mins and it`s out, a little longer to put it all back but no biggy. The club shop one i have has a stud on the top to make it easier to mount on your own. I experimented with a fibreglass cover but the fit was not great and i thought it was too flimsy, so i repaired an original with Fibre glass mat and Dynalined it and it`s fine and quiet. Steve
  20. I`m confused, i have never removed the starter from either my Herald or Vitesse from underneath, always from the top without removing carbs or exhaust., once the valance is out of the way it`s easy no?.Or maybe the routing of my manifold is different to a Pheonix, it used to have one but the fit was awful so I e- bayed it. Mine has HS6 Carbs and a 6-3-1 manifold. S
  21. What exhaust do you have Iain?. Mine has an MTP (Mike the Pipe) 6-3-1 and i don`t have to take it off to get the starter out?. S
  22. Nice car, I have a MK 1 CV Vitesse, is there a dent in the door or is it a trick of the light?. I made it to SEM yesterday despite the rubbish weather forecast, surprised at the turnout which was larger than i expected. Nice to see some old faces and chat. Someone forgot to cut the grass in the field which was about a foot high. After Leatherhead we took the Vitesse to Hayling Island and sat on the beach for an hour with a coffee in blazing sunshine. Car never missed a beat. Steve
  23. The first HT starter i had on my 2.5 Vitesse with 10:1 compression ratio used to spin quite slowly and struggle to start before the battery started failing. Nothing wrong with the battery. I replaced the starter (Club shop i think) and now it wizzes over much faster. It was the inner gears slowly seizing due to water getting in the vent hole which faces upwards on my car. It will only fit one way due to the solenoid postion. S
  24. I had the "upgraded" brake master on my Herald. It took a lot more leg power to make the brakes work. Now swapped for a Vitesse master and 4 pot callipers, a vast improvement on the type 14`s. Steve
