  1. What exhaust do you have Iain?. Mine has an MTP (Mike the Pipe) 6-3-1 and i don`t have to take it off to get the starter out?. S
  2. Nice car, I have a MK 1 CV Vitesse, is there a dent in the door or is it a trick of the light?. I made it to SEM yesterday despite the rubbish weather forecast, surprised at the turnout which was larger than i expected. Nice to see some old faces and chat. Someone forgot to cut the grass in the field which was about a foot high. After Leatherhead we took the Vitesse to Hayling Island and sat on the beach for an hour with a coffee in blazing sunshine. Car never missed a beat. Steve
  3. The first HT starter i had on my 2.5 Vitesse with 10:1 compression ratio used to spin quite slowly and struggle to start before the battery started failing. Nothing wrong with the battery. I replaced the starter (Club shop i think) and now it wizzes over much faster. It was the inner gears slowly seizing due to water getting in the vent hole which faces upwards on my car. It will only fit one way due to the solenoid postion. S
  4. I had the "upgraded" brake master on my Herald. It took a lot more leg power to make the brakes work. Now swapped for a Vitesse master and 4 pot callipers, a vast improvement on the type 14`s. Steve
  5. When i built my Herald 1500 and Vitesse 2.5 engines i went for BMC Green for both, maybe because i had a Mini Cooper back in the day. S
  6. I have the Chinese ally full width one in my 1500 Herald, about £120 iirc, it`s been great, if anything it over cools. I messed around with different senders and the gauge ranged from 1/3 to over half at normal temperatures due to the variants in the resistance of the senders. It never actually overheats though. Still have a plastic crank driven fan on it. Helps with the 4 into 1 tubular manifold heat. Steve
  7. What happend to TLD`s race car?. Steve
  8. I have one in my 2.5 Vitesse, good build quality but not cheap. Steve
  9. Just found this info, sold by auction as a project from a deceased estate in 2020 near Heathrow: https://www.handh.co.uk/auction/lot/338-1965-triumph-spitfire-mkii/?lot=50900&sd=1 Steve
  10. DVLA shows the last MOT in 2018 and now on Sorn so probably hiding in a garage somewhere. The DVLA won`t tell you the location of the last mot test so unless the reg secretary or other members recognise the Car?. Red Spit MK 1 or 2?. Steve
  11. I agree Pete, modern must haves etc. I am a tinkerer as both my extensively modified cars show and having thrown more money at them than I ever could get back but, having spent a small fortune building a modified 1500 for my Herald, and grenaded it after 500 miles due to coolant getting in cylinder no. 2, and then another complete rebuild at more expense (3k) I tend to want belt and braces. Steve
  12. I have a Mann 713 on my 1500 Herald, that always drains back anyway so i spin it over without choke for a few seconds to get the oil going. S
  13. That won`t work with the filter angled downwards, much easier to get hold of it with the grips. Steve
  14. I checked my grips,Halfords own brand and straight. Steve
  15. Hi Iain, My car is in a lockup about 20 minutes away so i can`t get a picture, but yes i got straight grips, I think from Halfords but memory could be failing. The filter is fitted at as much angle as i could get towards the chassis to allow removal of the filter without disturbing the housing. I can get the grips on the filter to start unwinding it no problem. I guess some filters are longer than others but the ones I use are fine and sit about 45 degrees. As i said I don`t gorilla it that tight anyway as it`s unnecessary. Steve
  16. Ghengis Khans ULEZ zone will put paid to many of these runs, the Mini one is reported as likely to be the last by the organisers as many are not exempt. S
  17. I only put a smear of oil round the seal and fit it hand tight (with latex gloves on) and that suffices. S
  18. Had a spin on filter on my Vitesse since 2009 when the new engine went in,fwiw i use Valvoline VR 1 and Fram filters from an Escort and have great pressure from cold start instantly and when hot.It sits as Johnny says at about 7-30-8 o clock. For removal i have one of these and its a doddle to change:
  19. Maybe not,my Vitesse was off the road from 1988 to 2008. Steve
  20. I bit the bullet and fitted BCC 4 pot calipers to my Herald during the front end rebuild. Along with a Vitesse master cylinder the brakes are a lot better than the standard type 14`s and take a lot less effort to stop. They fit on the original mounts but the backplate needs trimming a bit with tin snips. They come with EBC pads but i will be getting Mintex 1144`s for them. S
  21. Hope all your time and effort is appreciated Pete.👍 S
  22. Nowt wrong with SU`s if they are setup properly, had HS6`s on my 2.5 Vitesse since 2010, set up on a rolling road and not touched since aside from tweaking the tickover a bit. Steve
  23. I have always used this company for anything to do with filters, coolers etc. I believe they supply some retailers. https://www.thinkauto.com/ Steve
