  1. Paul your gearbox looks good and quiet .......with a host of spares inside for when you need them ha ! Pete
  2. Most triumphs are in neutral .... and fiddle a little generally the reverse pivot wont remove enough without a mainshaft out dont you just luv it . this just confirms my hate of the factory manuals, divisive bit of info is always ommited. last time I did any single rail work was on a Marina in the 70s pete
  3. Do the easy first remove the wheel and drum , is there a prolem with the shoes or return springs or drums has been fouling the back plate you only need a puller if you want to remove the hub flange to remove the shaft in order to examine the hub bearings which are a single row ball race and some needle rollers that keep the trunion parralel to the drive shaft these get worn and can make a racket often the needles wear the shaft pete
  4. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Vitesse-Stag-2000-wheel-trims-/112307787284?hash=item1a2610d614:g:1QcAAOSw~AVYqHUJ theres some going cheap on the bay

    Loctite

I guess the common sizes would be 2BA 3/16" unf No 10 unf 1/4" unf in countersunk and cheese heads as for suppliers .....yellow pages look local for bolt suppliers some still have unf in stock pete

    Loctite

When you say wont tighten is this because they are now pretty much stripped in which case a tap up a size or even some metric will reform enough thread whithout going too big aldi have metric sets in our local . pete

    Loctite

most loctite products will undo, there are grades of loc available from normal to supaserk most std thread lock will undo without needing a gorilla with spanners this leads to the other question is why do you need it ??? pete
  8. with luck depends where you buy the poly bushes they come with a sachet of a paste./ powdery type grease to use on the bushing. Pete
  9. The bush will pivot about the tube insert this tube is clamped by the pivot through bolt it does not and should not be moving and does not need any lubrication other than to improve / resist corrosion of the bolt only fully tighten the pivot bolts when the car is on the deck at its static ride height Not hanging off a jack or un bodied. pete
  10. All Filters , fan belts, ep 90 gl4 for top up trans and trunnions., carb diaphragms, fuel pipe hoses , add a fuel filter, drain old fuel out and refill with 97/99 super whatever engine oil in a squirt can to lube all moving linkages, throttle and door locks etc.. Check screen washer ......MOT pete
  11. Look at the drive shaft , is it bent, this can oscilate the trunnion and the spring eye does a lot of unwanted movements. think this is an outside the box problem props goes at engine speeds and wheels 4 times slower that should point any transmision vibes is is vava room or round and round we go the only knock from a diff is loose crownwheel bolts catching the bearing caps, or a really naf tooth failure Drive shafts uj are notorious for knocking but its a a knock or a clicking, does change on cornering loads as you have noticed. if you get her up and can replicate the noise use the old screwdriver trick as a stethoscope to home in on the epicentre but hanging drive shafts can foul on the chassis ...noisy pdte
  12. agree many parts expanded views are open to interpretation problems , the tech illustrator never had to rebuild or mix and match same as the Triumph WSM the one clever bit of basic clue you search is always ommited hope it all goes to plan. Pete
  13. As far as I know three rail reverse spacer tube goes to the rear of the gear up against the tail hsg or od adaptor plate its one part that always wants to fall out throuhg the hole in rear of the case when re assembling I have found single rail 1st 2nd sleeves fitted to 3 rail boxes and this wont work as they have different numbers of teeth, and the hubs a loose fit on the mainshaft i must have some in the shed , but you could remove the tail hsg. Swap the bush to the rear engage reverse and measure the depth from rear face to gear and cut you long spacer to suit just an idea pete
  14. Have you checked the brake drums for runout causing rotational noise contact with the shoes ? Or the back plate??
  15. You have rebuilt everything and the noise effect is unchanged so its something else you must check the tyres , if its got the whomp whomp feeling , and its whell rotational speed its the black round things that aint round anymore its a suprisingly common problem pete
  16. One common denominator is the tyres if the banding has a problem it can look nice and round to the eye but when driving the tread takes on a lobed effect causes chaos, need someone to look whilst you drive past or get followed To see if it rolls correctly or flops the tread or goes wonky sorry cant describe this in words pete
  17. sound like a job for a stepped or cone cutter aldi have good ones from time to time Pete
  18. Thanks clive thats good to know sounds a solution pete
  19. Pop it in the it will be useful one day cupboard full of things you never need but keep just in case
  20. The hinge to door is adjustable for in/ out flush fitting, there are also fibre packing between the hinge and the A post Each hinge has two bolts and a set screw fixing them to the door and three bolts fixing to the A post Do not overtightennthem as the caged plate is quite thin. the idea of the setscrew is you nip this and you can push the door around when its how you like it(or not) then lock the setting with the bolts.
  21. There are cheaper around but ive used them with classics for 14 yrs . pete
  22. I use pit lane in the old skf site off park avenue in sundon park well its just over the road to me , you can give me a knock and we can eye up your door fit you dont have to be in a triumph to join us , horse bike even an mg were very flexible pete
  23. Interesting mistake, we have a post for blonde moments we all have tee shirts for other Oops!!
  24. Gee whizz thats a fit or not, have you adjusted the hinge to door or the packing hinge to bulkhead? first idea is the rear tub need more packers under the reward body mounts, thats the two on the diff crossmember and the chassis extension arms that will help the tapered gap as for the proud waist , have you over pulled the tub for a spread solution,? its unusual for the door to be proud at the waist to that extent Have the doors had a re skin?? whats the fit like to the a post and bonnet wing tails.¿ Pete
  25. You can fit this with tank installed it can be a bit tight to get the flip through the hole a llose tank may help depends if filler tube is central in thebhole in the wing but some poke and prod will get it located use some soft soap to aid the fitting pete
