  1. Vacuum gauge can be an aid to engine setting but if you have all the basic adjustments about right its not going to show you much, if you fit a gauge to measure whats at idle if its tells a poor condition its back to re visit all the basics to make it right used as a economy device can aid keeping the foot off the gas an spoils any fun pressure gauge for fuel pump if you get a well defined spurt from the supply pipe when idling consider it Workable so yes they can be a asset gadget or use the fund to fill the tank and smile
  2. If the hsg is off the gearbox the post hole goes right thro, so you can tap it out from the back face 4mm is too much you can loose support of the post two washers is about max. it puts the see saw of the lever more central a thin brg makes the lever attitude late and extends the slave a extra bit bit of packing brings things near to central if the lever is late then the pegs in the throw out sit below the cover/shaft centre line and this pitches the carrier spent years working on warranty due to clutch geometry and recon covers .
  3. having rebuilt a good few untouched gearboxes I have only found paper gaskets , possibly a lick of shellac, love the smell of that stuff takes you back a bit to yesteryear Pete
  4. Thats not unusual theres a gremilin that always reverses the obvious Ha yes there a good few wrong way round its not the diameter its the depth , thickness of the new bearing thats been on a diet. the front cover and sperical post are a easy tap fit in the ally hsg, the pin in the carrier stops the rotation making wear grooves in the front cover some have a dimple in the peg slot saves the cover but the pegs wear the carrier groove, slot
  5. To stop the two tubs closing up I hid two countersunk screws under the tread plates but guess if fitted you have removed these and and the sills pete
  6. Interesting so it is pad pull back but not end float are you realy sure the disc had not pushed the pads back so when jacked the gap appears the piston seals should give some retraction but not enough to give a gap all very useful next time this problem pops up nice to have a solution pete
  7. And look at the grooves in the cam front bearing to identify whats fitted the later 2ltr vitesse vintage was reckoned to be the best before emmisions started to de tune things No point in skimming if the cams a 1974 yr and as flat as a pancake pete
  8. Back in the 80s we did many trials of gasket hard joint face oil leaks we dumped all paper gaskets and used loctite 574 a hard setting when air is excluded instant gasket which worked far and above any other product in its day, I still use it today at home it solved many oil seapage or problem leaks on trucks still available and much more choice with more types now if the gearbox is off check the thichness of the withdrawl bearing if its only 15mm thick you need to add a washer or two under the sperical post, or the angle of the arm is ,'late' and you loose travel and the pins are then set below the centre line the orig bearings were 19mm thick if there are wear grooves in the throwout carrier remove the anti rotation pin set it somewhere else pete
  9. Not looked up on the data but late mk 2 2000 had a very flat cam pair of grott SU HS4 and lower bhp (88) than any other 2ltr spec Ive got one, doubt I will mess around these days but it will never set the world on fire pete
  10. sure ive seen later ones with a clip and capless bulb located to shine in the edge of the plastic backing all a bit cheap and crude design (or lack of it just makes the colours and motifs sort of glow a bit
  11. 8.75" that probably gives you a ride height gain of around +1.5" at the wheels Wow !!! well you'll never graze the down pipes Pete
  12. manual s a bit vague but gives GT6 front springs as fitted test length as 8.06" +- 0.09" test load 880lbs free length 12.46" there's no clues about spring plate on shocker positions pete
  13. Fitted spring lengths are in the manual , (thats out in the conservatory with a cold laptop) but first thoughts are that your shocker spring platforms are at the wrong height from the lower bush. rather than the springs are too long. pete
  14. On a different drift had this on a swing spring conversion on the Vit6 and to get any ride amounts of kit butchery ended with cut 25mm off the shocker dust can and removed 2 of the 3 rubber bump rings to get some travel. the whole thing was useless and removed to a courier spring set up. pete
  15. from the wiring 2500s diagram yes there is a hazard and flasher as separate units do check the dual filiament bulbs 5/21w are in ok/ right way round for stop tail and the flashers are all 21w and the claw fittings are making an earth in the boot. also delete the nigh dimmer in the boot rear wheel arch if its fitted, easy to bypass join all like colours and ditch the earth pete dont see one on the 25s diagram so youre lucky

  19. that rings a bell do some have cup washer each side of the flat bushes the washer having the location protrusion ?? cant remember something has to keep the shaft away/central in the turret hole or you get amazing squeaks you cant trace Pete
  20. if you go back into the past you will see ive always promoted their site agree excellent site
  21. the bush should have a spigot/shoulder that centralises the bush in the turret hole top and bottom are the same theres a simple cup washer sits either side of the bush and the shocker shaft has a register/stepped thread to control the amount of squash when you tighten the nut, the shocker shaft only has any load on it in the off the deck or off the car position and the spring length is restricted by the shocker being fully extened, on the road or with the suspension jacked there is no load and you can push pull the shaft quite easy, just some damped loading if the shoulder wont fit thro the turret theres a basic dimensional problem with the bushes just some ramblings Pete
  22. Thats useful, some later and replacement delany valves have a capiliary pipe which should be routed into the cabin and this acts as a thermostat and tries to keep the heater output constant with engine coolant temp variation lucky youres doesn't have this extra pete
