  1. If it's available in 12mm it looks like a fairly simple design to adapt for our system.
  2. That's worrying. My nephew has had two X-trails and they're a terrible car, I've been working on the underside of both and they're horrendously rusty. I'll have to check his mountings now. A work colleague bought one from new and returned it after less than two weeks, so apparently even the new ones aren't anything to sing about!
  3. So why do do many people do it? It can't be just ME that knows so many people that have never worked, or gave up their jobs as benefits paid more than going out to work... As my 91 year old mother says: they neither worked, nor wanted.
  4. It's probably a mathematical equation, that those with the shortest daily journeys own the biggest vehicles. I can understand the ethos behind electric vehicles; the technology just isn't there yet.
  5. It's funny, but I had a 123 dizzy on my GT6, and went back to the (crap?) Delco version, which was rebuilt by H&H and fitted with electronic ignition. Ebay usually lists a few, or put an ad in the Spares Wanted section if you need an original one.
  6. That cable operated brass one looks like it would suit; is 15mm close enough for the heater hoses? Not in a position to check at present.
  7. And if you don't mind touring in twenty-mile segments... We could have a new electric Triumph - the ST60.... ST stands for short trip and 60 refers to the number of batteries you need...
  8. Advice still welcome, no matter the date! I may try that as the replacement is a later version with different manufacturer's markings, but then... who really notices if it drives past fast enough?
  9. Sorry... sometimes I forget this forum.... I never said it was an ORIGINAL MK2 box.... I suggested it MAY be a MK2 box already... as in an aftermarket stainless box fitted by a previous owner. However, I'll bow to those in the know.
  10. Sourced from Chic Doig earlier in the year so no longer required.
  11. Not the MK3, which as you say comes out of the box itself, but the MK2. Phoenix GT6 MK2 stainless system looks quite similar, as does Rimmer's own MK2 rear box.... https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GEX3483SSSPORT
  12. Now THAT is another entire kettle of worms... it used to be you checked if a timing belt had been replaced before you bought a second-hand car; now you'll have to have the batteries replaced or at least tested. I suppose as long as they last the standard three years of a lease agreement at 0% APR they'll do the job well enough for the manufacturer.
  13. I was actually going to suggest that THAT is a GT6 rear box already....
  14. Is the bolt on the end of the gearlever facing the right way?
  15. That's what I thought, but wanted to make sure, not having a 948 head to check and of course the cast manifolds are two different part numbers and a slightly different design. It was just because the manufacturers listed only one part number that I thought: maybe it's because they don't supply one for the 948 at all... Thanks guys.
  16. If it was only that.... not wanting to hi-jack Shaun's very important thread by diverting off at a tangent BUT: my wife's two work colleagues have both quit their jobs after hearing that their benefits were to be cut. They wanted reduced hours but that wasn't possible; apparently with reduced hours their pay would have been topped up again by benefits but because THEY applied, and weren't reduced by their employer, they didn't count. There was also a danger that BOTH their husbands were going to lose their free Motability cars (which they got for having bad backs and being unable to work) if their wives pays' exceeded a certain level. Free cars, free Insurance, free parking, and benefits that pay more than work... it's not surprising more people stay at home these days. It pays!
  17. Good luck Shaun; as the father of a 20 year old, currently at Uni, I know how uncertain the future can be. All I can do is be there and advise as much as possible. Many of the careers these days weren't even around when we started off, although how I wish I'd had a better Careers teacher.
  18. I've been asked by an overseas member with a 948 TC Herald whether or not the TSSC Club Shop tubular manifold will fit his car. It's advertised for a 1200 and no supplier that I can see lists one for the 948 (although some state they will build any manifold to requirements) A quick yes or no needed: will it fit the 948 head?
  19. That's discrimination. They didn't require older homes to have a petrol pump and a lift / pit.
  20. Comes from an early model Polo and works very well, even if it looks nothing like the original. Can be hard to find one, though.
  21. Nor any other hallucinogenic substance either. Car? What car??
  22. I'd be very surprised if there isn't a modern adhesive strong enough to stick body panels together, however it probably all depends on whether they're thin modern metal or Triumph metal... I'll watch this one, given that I can't keep the stainless trims on my GT6 bonnet down - they insist on lifting at the front, just an inch or two, so any adhesives that I haven't used so far will be next on the list. (Still covered in Tigerseal from yesterday's attempt, and they lifted off immediately after 24 hours setting time, once I removed the straps tapes and weights holding them in place.) (I've just edited this as I've had 50% success... one down, one up!)
  23. It's so as not to blind drivers in the car behind when driving at night. Strange, but true....
  24. That should be an interesting experience for dogs, then....
