  1. Is there much flexibility in your bonnet ie if you undo both side catches does it drop down along the top to where it should, or is this a permanent curve due to the moulding and so keeps the same profile? I'd worry that if you try to pull the centre down, the pressure will go elsewhere, resulting in stress cracking or bowing out somewhere else.
  2. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/-/232792977880?nordt=true&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l10137 eBay item number: 232792977880, and if the link is not still available I'll quote directly from the listing: "Triumph herald coupe v8. This is definitely what you would describe ass a 1 off monster It is on the road and in working order I have been using to go to work and back every day witch is great fun The body itself is a genuine coupe The chassis has been modified to house the v8 ,5 speed gear box , simitar rear axle and coil over suspension The engine itself is a fully rebuilt 3.9 rover v8 it also has tubular manifolds and a holly carb The gearbox is a standard lt77 5 speed The set up is very good it pulls and handles well. The only real things that let car down is the body work witch is quite poor (poor filler work and crap paint finish).the back window is just a peice of Perspex taped in The seats are in good condition and so are the belts Genuine set of mini lights fitted (not pattern rubbish ones). Larger brakes have fitted to the front witch work very well" I emailed the seller and he informed me that there was no MOT, and the modifications have never been notified to anyone. I expect he just ticked the box, and the new owner will do likewise...
  3. My first instinct was that it was a Northern Ireland number plate, hence the question! I checked the photos to make sure it wasn't on your Spit.
  4. Thanks - I'll make a few enquiries just in case, as some appear to show it attached to newly pressed wings. It may just depend on the supplier.
  5. It relieves crankcase pressure; early cars have a pipe on the side of the block so don't need additional relief from the rocker, hence no take-off. You'll need one or the other.
  6. Welcome Derek - that's a nice car! What's the significance of your user name?
  7. Chic Doig will make any complete panel, or small section thereof. I'm not sure if any other retailers or restorers will do it, but I'm certain he does.
  8. Does anyone know if the long stiffener that runs down the entire bulkhead-end of a 1200 front wing comes with the newly manufactured bonnets, or should it be retained when cutting old wings off? Rimmers appear to show it in one photo, but others don't. I've just spent an hour carefully grinding one off an old bonnet to reuse then realised I may be wasting my time.
  9. Too late... they know already....
  10. Use a short length of brake pipe over the shank of the rivet, about 1cm or so; it allows the rivet head to fit inside the popper and the gun then pulls against this to pop the rivet in place, no matter the size of the gun nozzle you're using.
  11. Years ago I changed mine to the Y-shaped earth cable as used on Spitfires, so not only does it earth to the block, it also reaches the negative earth point beside the battery.
  12. Time flies like an arrow, but fruit flies like a banana....
  13. +1 on that, mine is running like a clock.
  14. My brother-in-law passed away a year ago, from cancer. They're STILL chasing his estate for bills and taxes, so my sister can't touch anything until it's all settled. That's why I'm not keen on reincarnation; I don't want to be born owing money from the last time....
  15. Gave up trying to change the front brake discs on a Ford Mondeo on Monday. They're held on to the hub with a screw - oh no they're not!! There's no screw, nor even a recess for one. These ones have been glued on. It may take me slightly longer than the two hours I'd allowed.
  16. I've absolutely no idea what mine does, being an 18/50 gearbox with J-type O/D on a non-O/D diff. I just do the speed everyone else is doing unless it's on the motorway / dual carriageway, in which case I just tootle along at an indicated 65 or so and let everyone else overtake me.
  17. I missed Kilbroney - I had visitors to collect from the airport on the same day, but have not yet heard any reports about it. Did you miss Totally Triumph too? Another good show; and we were all at Kirkistown Racetrack as well on the 9th.
  18. My GT6 Mk1 turned 50 on June 8th. I saw an MX5 at a show the other day that had just turned 40 miles on the clock.
  19. Interesting topic, this - I'm watching with interest as my GT6 has a very alarming tendency to spread the rear wheels widely at the bottom if reversed; so much so that the rear mud flaps trail on the ground. Going forwards, no bother at all, but on reverse the wheels go right in at the top and out at the bottom, and other members have commented on it.
  20. That's an hour for the work, an hour for tea break and the other 2.2 hours for the trade union meeting to decide whether or not to strike due to being asked to do jobs like this.
  21. Is it leaking around the screw thread, or from the centre ie around the pipe? You may be able to improve the seal by reflaring the pipe, but it may be the case that the threads on your alloy master cylinder are too worn to tighten sufficiently to allow a good seal anymore; have a look at the threads and see if there's any wear or damage. You may be able to rethread them (to a certain degree)and a new nut may help, but if if the threads in the alloy are wrung or damaged it'll have to be a replacement.
  22. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-STANPART-ENGINE-MOTOR-SPITFIRE-HERALD-PARTS-GEARBOX-CLASSIC-KIT-CAR-PUMP/323301608095?hash=item4b46470a9f:g:cDUAAOSwN2VbIrzO Don't think the seller knows its' rarity, as it's part of the entire engine package.

I used to run up a huge overdraft, no idea how* as although my grant was tiny I was working in the Uni bar and playing music four or five nights a week, and that paid quite well. I'd go home in the summer for ten weeks, work in a local factory and pay it all off, then go back and run it up again. *I do remember getting a grant of £130 for an entire term, then buying a hi-fi system for £80..... so it was a question of priorities...
  24. I bought mine from Frost, they come in a box of four and will fit all sorts of sizes. Very easy to use and no damage. Unless of course you snap the stud off, but that's unlikely in normal use. https://www.frost.co.uk/4-piece-stud-puller-set.html
