  1. Well always each time you press and release the brake pedal the servo diaphragm goes back n forth so a quantity of air from the servo chamber is released through the vac connection to the inlet manifold and if done enough I would expect it to affect the revs. However if it does it as you slowly press the pedal then it could be the diaphragm is punctured and air is passing through it to the manifold...
  2. Do you know what sort of noise you can expect to get if theyre shot so I can listen out for it😁
  3. What do these isolators/pads/buttons do then? Cant be any left in my spring after 50+ years😭
  4. This is a good point, what are the symptoms of wear in the rear spring apart from sitting low and shot end bushes? My Vitesse spring is the original and has had never had anything done to it apart from some paint a long time ago - admittedly its had an easy life so Ive just installed a 0.5" lowering block but should I worry about lubing/cleaning it or replacing said isolators?
  5. It hurts to think though that youre accelerating and decelerating that unnecessary weight though☹️ If youre going to do it best to carry a load of spares and tools as at least they offer some justification....
  6. Unfortunately grease doesnt do much for roller bearings of any type Dave apart from keep dirt out. It only helps on sliding surfaces such as in roller cages or between rollers and wont reduce wear between rolling contact surfaces which is controlled more by quality of materials, number of revolutions and load. In fact packing roller bearings with grease can be a bad thing as it gets churned and if trapped generates heat...
  7. Never heard of that one but think back in the day springs were heated and flattened out to reduce wheel camber. It was dodgy because you couldnt guarantee the temper was right in the spring afterwards...
  8. yes you can get new replacement half shafts for around 100 pounds including VAT so think its a tall order to get your old one to the machine shop, spray and machine for less than that....
  9. By my reckoning I think your original set up gave 1216 turns of the speedo cable for each mile travelled (standard 4.11 ratio diff and tyres) and you can check this by looking at the number printed on the face of the gauge. Your new gearbox gave 1000 speedo cable turns per mile with its original 3.63 ratio diff but now (assuming tyre size is unchanged) with the 4.11 diff it will give roughly 13% more. This is about 1132 turns per mile so the speedo will only read approximately 7% lower than before...
  10. yes and as its sprayed I wonder about the possibility of doing it on small diameters like our half shafts - most of the metal spray will miss the intended target☹️
  11. Must admit Im just going by the Canley drawing, which might not correspond with what they supply, but the length is exactly the same as their offering for a Herald fitted with single rail OD gearbox...
  12. Going by their website I think the one Steve has, being non standard, is a current custom made item offered by Canley. As such it could be in good condition and so hopefully avoid the problems described🤞
  13. Great, should do the job as has flexible coupling and looks right length. Not sure what its from though as dont think a standard prop was ever produced by Triumph like that...
  14. Getting confusing here, have you got OD on the new gearbox? Midgets didnt come with it so if no OD then I cant see any standard OD prop will fit🤔 A sliding joint or some other flexible arrangement is a good idea to avoid thrust particularly on the gearbox rear bearing...
  15. The other possibility is that the pads arent fully bedded yet. One of my calipers takes a while before the pads are making full contact with the disc and it must be slight misalignment of the caliper carrier or the caliper itself, Until it does work using the complete pad surface area its obviously not as effective as the other side which beds amost straight away and of course swopping pads over wont help. You can however easily check for this problem by inspecting the pads....
  16. But was that a standard one? They can be bought new a lot cheaper...
  17. I suppose measure carefully and compare with minimum length of standard new or secondhand replacement🤞
  18. Unfortunately theres no other standard prop thats going to work so the only alternative is a custom made job....
  19. yes thought it was an OD box going in! So a Vitesse non OD prop at 47" should be nigh on perfect for the set up and fortunately pretty common👍
  20. Yes this is from Canley...
  21. Its just that I wonder if the cable inner is slightly too long it can be jammed into the tacho drive connection as you do up the coupler so 'seizing' it...
  22. yes probably cheaper to get second hand than professionally repaired. However worth taking yours apart for a look although its probably had it if seized - I do wonder if the new cable has had something to do with the failure...
  23. fraid these are in the same hens teeth/expensive category as bolt-on type 14 brake caliper brackets, GT6 interior lights, original gear knobs and horn pushes, steering wheels, OD gearboxes and 3.27 ratio diffs☹️
  24. Its amazing how these things happen as you would think, take the bolts out and put em back in, but no sometimes theres an attack of the morons☹️
  25. The manual says 5/16 UNF x 1" set screws so has someone put in something longer!
