  1. After six months based there with the RN in 1973, yes and yes. As a lowly Midshipmen from Coventry (born three miles from the Standard) I was sometimes left ashore for the day to sort the Captains MGB, Navigating Officers TR and Gunnery Officers MGA. May explain why I partially failed my Fleet Examination Board shortly thereafter, but career did recover! Dick

  5. This was to be expected and 'normal' given the Spring (high water) tides coincident with the below average barometric pressure combined with heavy rainfall run-off. Height of tide this morning in Chichester Harbour is just shy of metre above prediction. 50kn winds on Wednesday night, not a cloud in the sky this morning! Dick

  9. I have been using Gumtree for some time, not least because it's free. I initially thought I would get little reaction and just local but have been surprised by the distance some will travel, and the ability to negotiate how to pay and post is useful. Dick

  11. The filter looks identical to the one I have, courtesy of the TSSC shop 15 years ago, and provided you do not go mad will strip and clean easily. Dick
  12. Correct and while at it, may be an optical illusion, but the hose from the pipe to the filter seems to reduce markedly restricting fuel supply. I had some similar symptoms in the GT6 and peering inside the tank found a piece of plastic film/bag floating around which would sometimes block the outlet pipe. Dick

  17. Iain, I have been couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed it; I was as invited to run the GT6 at the next event and then COVID struck. IIRC there was an article in The Courier not too far back but cannot for the life of me remember by who, but sure it was one of the Register Secretary's. Dick
  18. Colin, I did exactly the same thing, once, having restored the car and rebuilt the original engine nearly twenty years ago. Why, to prove I had done it right. Unfortunately, after this years Classic Le Mans trip just waiting to pull the engine and sort out what I believe to a main bearing issue! Oh well, after about 40,000 miles can't complain.

  20. Roger, Just checked on the original cylinder head fitted to my engine and and couple of spares, that dowel is 1/2" (12.5mm) long and the nut is accessible with a socket. Out with the cutter is probably easiest as the head is now very stable. Dick

  23. I have left my GB sticker in the rear window and use a magnetic UK one when required. What was intriguing waiting for ferries to/from Classic Le Mans were the number (over half) of cars with no country designator at all on display. Dick

Just back from a great weekend, in spite of a bit of drizzle, it being cooler than the previous nine I have been to and an engine that seems to have decided a front crank bearing is a optional extra; oh well. A big thank you to Chris G, Bern and Lisa among others for all your tireless efforts to make Tetre Rouge campsite the place to be , just a pity that motor homes seem to have become more prevalant and being a bit inconsiderate with their parking and 'modern' classics and exotica almost outdoing the Triumphs. Roll on 2025. Dick
