  1. It is simple. First get your pic down to about 100Kb I use MSPaint to do this. Click on the tag below that states 'Choose fiies' Double click your photo that is saved on your computer. And that is it Roger
  2. There are lots of rubbish RED rotors out there. But the only good one will have DD stamped on it for 'Distributor Doctor' - this is the one to have. Roger
  3. If you like the odd flame or two try this. I have a nice little battery powered drill. After doing a particularly dirty job (disintegrated Gearbox) the drill body was covered in the blackest, stickiest muck. So I cleaned it by spraying it with Brake/clutch cleaner. It came up a treat. However I would now recommend blowing it dry for about five minutes or so. I happened to turn it on immediately after cleaning. It burst into the most splendid orange flames. Lesson learnt Roger

    Rocker Arm broken

Fill the combustion chamber with string. Remove the valve collets and lift off the springs Turn the crank a little and allow the valve to drop a fraction. You can then waggle the valve to see how stiff it is (when cold). Don;t let the valve drop tooooooo far. Roger

    Rocker Arm broken

Thanks for that.I can't see anything obvious that may cause the problem. It looks as if it broke suddenly in one go. Is the push rod bent.? Roger

Hi Dougie, can you post a well focused, HD pic direct onto the crack faces. It should/may be possible to tell how it failed. Roger
  8. About five years ago I had a need to spray some 2K paint. Everybody warned me how bad it was and that I had to use an air fed mash otherwise I would die. I didn;t have an air fed mask. But I did have a Turbo Inflator for the camping airbeds, garden hose and a plastic bag. The plastic bag went over my head The hose was strapped around my neck and pointing upwards. The Turbo inflator was pushed into the far end of the pipe down the garden on the lawn. This was powered by a Car battery. The effect was quiet impressive. The bag inflated and stayed clear with the vigorous breeze passing by I never did take a picture. And I didn;t die from either toxic substances, Suffocation from the bag or strangulation for the pipe attachment around my neck What next................... Roger
  9. If you complain to Rimmers they will say they have never had a query over that part before - no matter what the part is. Roger
  10. You need to measure the reflector and find a bulb to suit. work on 50% https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-for-private-passenger-and-light-commercial-vehicles/4-lamps-reflectors-and-electrical-equipment Roger
  11. They have a thin film of silcone sealant where the bulb fits to the red reflector.. The inner face of the reflector has been machined to remove the dimples to allow the bulb to sit flat. The metal ring is is a simple bezel that I spun up on the lathe. The requirement is for 30 or 50% (can;t remember which) to be functional. The lights on the TR4A (MR11 size) take up a lot less than that requirement. Roger
  12. Originally I fitted kitchen filament down lighters into the clusters on my TR4A. I then changed them to LED ad they give out plenty of light. Roger
  13. Wow Paul !!! that is very posh. I just used a scrap piece of 1mm mild steel. Roger
  14. Hi Folks, not sure how correct this is but I read on another forum that the C-Tek chargers don;t work too well on the batteries with Calcium in. eg - Halfords (Bosch) HCB072 Roger
  15. Which reminds me of the old Lancashire joke at the undertakers. A man asked for a simple line added to the head stone. It read 'She was thine'. The head funeral director, thinking this was quite easy. gave the job to the apprentice. The following day, as pleased as punch, the lad asked the director to view his work. Aghast, the director lambasted the apprentice. You silly bu99er, you have left the E off - as it read "She was thin" The following day, not so pleased with his work, the apprentice asked the director to see his work Upon reading it the director collapsed in a flood of tears. In true Lancashire style the lad had chiseled "E she was thin" Sorry about that very old joke. Roger
  16. Hi Nigel, would it not be best to use plugs that get hotter under normal use. Most plugs have different temp grades in their range. What plugs do you use at present? Cleaning is secondary. I would have though grit blast the ceramic coating would do it no favours at all. A blow Torch to get it very hot and burn off would be gentler on the ceramic. Roger
  17. Hi Folks, I have a pair of front coil suspension springs that were tried on my TR4A for a few miles. The Revington info is here P/N. RTR 3336 https://www.revingtontr.com/search.asp?for=road springs&cartype=tr6cp Code - White & Blue stripe They are in very good condition. I don;t know if they fit other models other than TR's Free - I can organise delivery if necessary Roger
  18. Isn't this the same or very similar to the stuff shown at all the major car show. Alutech or springs to mind but doesn't come up on Google. And it is not cheap - £30/Mtr. Alumiweld is another one Roger
  19. Quite so. You can photograph a lightning strike/propagation - TRy doing that with day light What TRavels fastest - Light or Dark The answer is Dark - because it is always there when the light turns up. (According to Terry Pratchett) Roger
  20. Hi Lance, a lot depends on which system you have and the general condition of the engine. Start with 0.030" Check for ease of starting, smoothness in running and acceleration, MPG. After a week or so (takes notes) increase by 0.005" run for a week and compare. If any of it feels not right then close down to 0.025" (standard for contact breaker ignition) Good luck Roger
  21. Hi Gav, a chap on the TR Reg forum had his TR6 diff rebuilt here DIFF. The result was perfect. Is Westbury too far form the South Coast Roger
  22. Hi Gav, I have used them to rebuild a TR4A gearbox and Overdrive that worked well afterwards. I have not had a Diff rebuilt. If you use them and you are in a rush for the diff to be returned tell them up front. Otherwise it sits in a queue - they can get quite busy. Roger
  23. Anagram of Astute -- statue Anagram of Sensible -- Beinless this mean not having any Bein. Sadly Bein is not a word so can't be used in Scrabble. But whi knows, this time next year !!!! I'm bored Roger
  24. Hi Roger, Water is the best cooling medium - compared to anything with antifreeze in. The Evans has less cooling power than water. A mix of normal anti-freeze and water is a better coolant than Evans. That fact that Evans doesn't boil is meaningless as a normal TRiumh cooling system will not boil under normal conditions. As for corrosion, the standard blue ant=freeze at 30% or 50% dilution also does not corrode. Also, and this is important, I understand that the Evans type can be a fire hazard. If you get a leak that produces a fine spray you could have a problem Roger Roger
  25. There is also the Automatic brake bleed valves https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ABV-AUTOMATIC-BLEED-VALVES-66-17-classic-cars-PATENT-ENTERPRISES-NOS/264918505509?hash=item3dae5f9825:g:Ey0AAOSwLIJezpVL These will probably stop the air being drawn in. Roger
