    Car Covers

    The trouble with anything said to be 100% waterproof is that it will sweat as it does not breath, and the vents are not normally big enough to let the trapped moisture out properly, leading to conditions worse than not having a cover. The breathable Moltex type the club sells are not 100% waterproof, but like Gortex, they will let any trapped moisture through and ultimately you will have better protection.

You should not use liquid lubricants in locks, although it might work as soon as you apply it, all it does is turn into a sticky paste over time, a mixture of worn metal powder and WD40 which then makes matter worse.   3. I have just spoken to my contact at Ivor Searle, who provide the clubshop with Engines, Heads and Rocker assemblies. They say that the pads were not hardened at the time of manufacture. If they were when they reface them they would see a difference between the hardened and non hardened area of the rocker and this is not evident.

I would also agree with Kevin, and on a recent trip down to the IOW May weekend I proved more than once, that properly set up and functioning brakes on a Spitfire or Herald, or any of our cars for that matter are perfectly adequate. I locked all four wheels on the A43 due to a lapse of concentration and then noticing a van travelling in my lane at about 30mph! The brakes were not the limiting factor, the tyres were, as once you have locked your wheels and are skidding you don't need any more braking!! I think what people percieve as poor brakes is the difference between the sharp feel you get in a modern car and the feel of our brakes rather than their efficiancy. Properly set up, adjusted and quality components are all that you really need for good brakes. However if you want to "upgrade" them there are as suggested above easy well proven routes to go down. The Princess callipers as mentioned are like gold plated rocking horse droppings now, however the Club Shop will shortly be able to offer brand new aluminium 4 pot callipers that fit Spitfires and Heralds with standard wheels.
  5. I would second the Denso tape solution, wonderful stuff, I used it in Civil Engineering back in the mid 80's for protecting joints in cast iron pipes underground. Messy stuff to use but does it's job well.
  6. Steve, I had the same thoughts as you and put wax in my first GT6 tailgate, however on hot days when closed it ran out and the car stunk for months, also the support spring could not cope with the extra weight, so I would just be careful.
  7. We used to stock the Monroe shocks in the club shop, but were told by our wholesale supplier that they no longer made the units to fit our cars. I would suspect that the ones on ebay were old stock, Although that should not have made any difference. I am still looking for a good "standard" shock to sell alongside the GAZ adjustables.

  9. I've had this with a newly rebuilt CD150 carb on my 1300CC engine, I found just tightening up slowly and evenly seemed to make the difference, it took several tries to get it not to stick!
  10. The club shop stocks rotoflex rear wheel bearings, the bearings are Timken and Koyo. The part number is GRB314 and are £28 Inc. VAT
  11. Also you mention 20/40 for the oil viscosity, it should be 20/50.

    Fuel pumps

    To be honest I just looked on ebay and bought a suitable pump with low enough pressure as most are too high, though you can use a pressure regulator to bring it back down. I mounted mine on the left hand engine valance but that was a mistake as it amplifies the noise of the pump. I intend to move it back to the boot near the tank. If there is a big enough demand for these then i will look at stocking them in the club shop.

    Fuel pumps

    The shop stock fuel pumps when we could get Quinton Hazel branded units, but since they went bust a few years ago, all that seems to be available is substandard units which do not last. I am keeping a lookout for good quality ones that we could stock, but i don't want to offer parts that I know are dubious quality. I fitted one of the units available currently and it failed imediately, so have changed to an electric pump and to be honest it is such an improvement, with a Hi Torque starter as well my Herald starts as quickly and reliably as a modern car.

Just a quick note, the club shop used to sell Superflex bushes, which was actually a UK trade name for SuperPro bushes from Australia, we are now purchasing direct from SuperPro directly and for a while there will be a mix of packaging until we run out of the old stock. Roy, Although the frames are the same apart from the headrest, what you do have to watch is the squabs as they are different between 1500 and MKIV, it is a slight difference in shape and as long as you have the corect covers for the foams then there is no problem. Basically 1500 seat covers will not fit properly on MKIV squab foams and vica versa.
  16. The range of springs supplied by BCC are available through the club shop, they are made in Sheffield, I will also enquire to see if the clamps are available separately.

  18. The trouble with 100% waterproof covers is that they don't breath, that is why we no longer get our covers for the shop from Classic Additions. The five layer covers we sell are not gauranteed to be 100% waterproof in all conditions, but are very breathable and any slight condensation that you get due to temperature differences will soon disperse. We sell a lot of these covers and the only proviso with them as with any outdoor covers is to ensure that any sharp edges/points (wing mirrors, Herald rear wing ends etc.) are adequately covered with foam or a cloth to stop them chaffing the cover as this sort of failure would not be covered by any manufacturers guarantee.
  19. As far as I know KYB is the only make now that you can get to fit our cars. I would avoid the cheap black painted far eastern sourced ones that a few big suppliers offer as they have a short life and the bushes don't last and are an odd size so can't be replaced. We used to stock Monroe though they were getting more expensive, however they have now stopped making them. The other option is wait till Stoneleigh and see what new old stock there is about Woodhead, Monroe, Gabriel etc. I have read of concerns over KYB shocks on the Rover 75 MGZT forum but that might just be specific to that fitment.
  20. As far as I know nobody does floor pans split this way anymore, they are now always sold as left and right hand full floors.
  21. I am pleased to say the fault has been sorted, it was a software update that was applied last night that caused the problem.

Andy, We only dropped the genuine Minilites from the shop offerings because they were in financial trouble and got bought out by Specialist Car products, unfortuantely they changed all their trading terms with us which made it a non starter to carry on supplying them. The originals are still available from Minilite directly and they are the best. The other "copies" do not always have the correct offset for our cars and can foul the front wishbones. http://minilite.co.uk/products.htm

Just because we have tried something at HQ and found it to be a good product (and with something like this it would be a year or so to trial it for it's protective qualities) does not mean other members will be buying it. This thread is the first and only request for these products. Also it also depends on what trade terms we could get, quite a few companies offer such little discount we can't offer their products at the same price as they retail them for, so why would members pay more? We aim to be no more expensive on products for as large a percentage of our stock as possible, in a lot of cases we are cheaper than most. We are open to all ideas for products to stock, and I am not trying to be negative, but we have to make sure that it is a practical proposition, we still have stock of items bought before I started in 2007 that have never sold!

While we obviously want to stock products that members want to buy, in the past we have stocked the Dinitrol range of cavity waxes and ended up selling them at a loss as no one was buying them, and they were competativly priced. So unfortunately I will need a bit more demand on this before we start stocking it. Happy to be proved wrong and that there is a big demand though.

    Shop images

    Unfortunately we don't have all the exhaust parts in stock and therefore do not have the opportunity to photograph them. What I plan to do is scan the line drawings of the systems and upload those. However this is not a five minuite job and at such a busy time of year as now it will take some time. However if there is anything you need to know or ask re the exhausts please don't hesitate to phone me.
