  1. I'd also be tempted by the stainless ones. I bought a set of chrome ones in 2016 and there are one or two tiny specks of rust showing. When I cleaned them at the weekend most disappeared just with a soapy clothe. I will give them a treatment, clear laqueur/nail polish when the weather is good and dry.
  2. This is NASA we're talking about they wouldn't use planks they would have spent millions to design a set of straight edges that were light and met their strict specifications. They'd have gone to Walmart. I checked mine today using the roof bars for the Yeti. Very professional looking.😁 The results have been passed to the number crunching department for analysis.   3. Definitely makes a change, for the better, from lots of others. Simple and straight forward, the sort of chat that would happen at any meeting of old car owners. Well done. I would willingly watch more of them.

  5. I'm waiting for my friend to confirm when he is going to have it done, the end of this month is when he hopes to take the items there so end March for finished results. I am going to ask him to take before photos or i will if I go with him. I will report back.
  6. My Yeti has them. Makes me smile when I start the car and it is facing the wall, the lights do their little dance! My previous Skoda had the turning headlights and the 'corner light' system; back in 2007 is was quite rare. Got to work one day and a guy told me only one of my front fog lights was working, I said thanks for the info - much easier than trying to explain the corner lights system πŸ˜‡ Had to change a wiper blade today on the Skoda, wow! there is still something that can be done at home and the handbook doesn't tell me to see a specialist
  7. Good selection of options on that link. I noticed most Heralds had classic steels 😁. I agree that Minilites do work with the more sporty models of Triumphs. I would even go for wires on a convertible Herald. Once again it is down to personal taste. After all Minilites are a period item when all said and done.
  8. Pete: your definition of "easy to clean" isn't the same as mine then. A wipe over with a sponge and the steels with hub caps are done. The Minilites had to be cleaned spoke by spoke... You must have more spare time than me πŸ˜„
  9. This is a photo of the car with the Minilites and 70 profile tyres This is with steels and 80 profiles. Hub caps and trims are about via usual sources or the bay. I even went flashy and got a set of hub caps with the Triumph globe in the centres.
  10. Twenty year old tyres? I'd change them straight away. I have 155/80on my 13/60, I assume they are 3.5 rims but will check them in the next few days. They look fine, not over fat, in keeping with the period. When I took delivery of the car it had Minilite type wheels with 70 profile tyres, looked too modern for me and out of keeping with a Herald so I fitted the steels that came with it..
  11. But Boris can πŸ™Š The whole idea of 100% electric cars is going to bite back very soon. No electricity grids can cope, there is hardly any spare capacity now in winter. Here there are incentives to buy electric or hybrids I strongly suspect the people who buy hybrids drive most of their time on non electric. In my case in a couple of hundred metres I'm out of the village and on national roads, no way am I going to drive at 50 Kph. Arriving at my local town, 12 kms away I would do maybe 1 km before parking. Tomorrow We go for a medical check up and again will only be in a 50Kph zone for maximum 5 kms. Distance each way just short of 40 Kms, On return I'd be thinking of putting it on charge ready for the next day out... Full electric will allow higher road speeds but still limited range. A few days ago I say a post on FB about electric buses in Reims, I think and Berlin(?) where they had to be taken off the road and replaced by good old diesels - Reason? Cold weather and electric batteries don't tend to get along well.

  13. On the original thread "ancient tyres : bin them" there are several comments on the widths suitable for 13/60 wheels, which are 3.5 as standard. My calculation based on a link given in a post was that 155 was the max. Which is what I have.

  15. Question from a simpleton: If they are so bad how come they are in business? Answer to a simpleton: There are always innocent victims out there waiting. Terrible, especially when one considers the potential safety implications.
  16. Looking at the wheels and tyres equivalency chart on the link and working down to 3 1/2 the figures should be Min: 125 Recommended : 135/145 Max: 155 This size has been mentioned in earlier posts. In fact they are what are on my 13/60, no idea if my wheels are D type or J type or E Type!
  17. The handbooks for my 13/60 say: Saloon & Convertible : 31/2 D Estate : 41/2 J D,J ? Disc Jockey, Dinner Jacket . . D For bikes, motorcycles, light and heavy trucks and forklifts. J Passenger cars My head hurts . . .
  18. I looked at the Fuel Cap Company site out of interest, I don't need a cap as I have an assortment of caps. Potentially worth noting for anyone who wants a locking cap, Pete's comments to be taken on board. I wonder if they are having any import delays now?
  19. If I saw mine that low I'd be looking for where the leak was or trying to weigh up the impact of hot weather and fast long run had.
  20. Still haven't checked mine, no great urgency as the car isn't going anywhere far in the near future and I'm waiting until the dust settles about ordering from the UK for delivery to the EU. Tarifs or not depending on declared origin of manufacture of items ordered, VAT etc. I know what the rules are supposed to be, I think, but some owners here have had nasty shocks.
