  1. Iain it looks great, the big Triumph badge with the Overdrive badge clipped under it would complete the look. Re Alloy bumperettes there frequently on ebay BUT the outer anodized finish has always started to fail so you either polish it out or repaint them. There was a manufacturer's advert at the time detailing how they were made
  2. I do like that blue soft top, daughters Mk2 could do with a new roof the cars the same navy blue (Porsche) as yours, now to convince the wife to forgo a new pair of very expensive Italian red suede shoes, think I'm on a loser!
  3. When we brought my daughters first car (aged 17 at the time) a concour Dolly Sprint, she insisted on it! the PO also had light aircraft as well and had fitted aircraft landing lights as the H1 main beams they were brilliant over 100watt each with clear glass, they looked very impressive and definately said I'm coming through! Unfortunately there illegal & had to be changed to std 55W for the roadworthy (RWC), but they found their way back onto the Dolly (not by me) I'm currently in negotiation to sell my Sprint with a chap who runs a car repair shop nearly opposite my daughter in Rural Coastal Vic, he knows Triumphs previously having run a British Car Spares Co in Queensland and had Sprints, Stags and currently has a very nice white Mk3 GT6 that was his mother's from a year old. Talking to him he said he was looking at a set of aircraft landing lights on a shelf complete with relays in his office that will be going on the Sprint as there needed in rural Vic to see well ahead at night to avoid hitting a Roo! I recently checked the H1 & H4 lights on my Sprint they were all different makes, checking my stock of spares I was able to standardize on Stanley(?) for the H4's and Lucas 100 for the H1's. I have no idea who Stanley are/were? or what the 100 relates to on the Lucas H1's. So it looks like rural Paynesville near the Vic/NSW border is going to become a little Triumph haven with a TR4 down the street a Stag and TR3 in town, the daughters Mk2 Spitfire, and Brads GT6 and hopefully my old Sprint. Triumph's Reign!
  4. Blowing your own Trumpet, it is! Dad’s Sec once gave him a plastic trumpet for Christmas, making the point
  5. I made a spring compressor where the top and bottom plates were 10mm steel and I used a good quality Sutton brand here tank cutter/hole saw to drill the largish 40 mm plus holes and it’s still fit for purpose good quality slow speed and cool the cutting teeth during cut. I used a cheapie pedestal saw at a reasonably slow speed. I have a 1in tank cutter with one broken tooth that I’ve had/used for probably 30 years oh don’t use a wood cutter on steel the offending bit might still burn it’s way thro wood
  6. Just measured my boot panel studs, UNF Number#10 (3/16in dia, 0.190in) by 32TPI
  7. Ooh glad the brackets fit phew! looks a really nice lamp in vgc pity about the nuts missing In the morning I’ll run a thread gauge over mine and see what fits being a Lucas fitment it could be them funny electrical threads had a laugh at the ignition blonde moment!!
  8. You still getting pounded been nearly a month now on and off! Stay safe!
  9. We as a member of our Triumph car club here have negiotated to get a min of trade discount from a local major motor factor Bursons In fact when my son had a Alfa 33 and the alternator failed I got the new Diode pack at 67% discount less than $30. Being getting trade for over 30 years!
  10. The Triumph Publicised photo of the Vitesse Mk2 Chassis and suspension shows the oil filter silver , but the whole chassis etc has been tarted up?
  11. Pull one wire off at a time and see what stops working that’s what I did with the Vitesse with the wires out of the original fuse box. Supply wires into the fuse box were connected to the bus bar bolt. I fitted 2 of your 6 blade fused box’s on the Vitesse one each for ignition and battery systems to replace the original two 35 amp glass fuses in each case 3 of the new fuses were original circuits the other 3 were new extra accessory items. I was lucky the Vitesse originally had 2 fuses somewhere to start! What are you going to do about the existing battery supply circuits, interior lights, horn, and parking/number plate lights.
  12. I have a Ryobi Angle Grinder the gears mesh very smoothly and slide switch easy to operate. when I cleaned the chassis and body of rust and under seal I brought a cheap PRC one it did the job and the son now has it but the gear mesh was very clunky but it did and still does the job. All my other equipment is DeWalt, all battery 2 drills, impact gun, circular saw, jig saw and recriprocating saw. My sons father in law in Taiwan is a VP of a company that makes their own and other world named diy and professional brushless & battery tools and provides the motors to many other manufacturers. iriconically my son has a full suite of PRC made Ozito battery. equipment from Bunnings guaranteed for 5 years no quibble replacement policy never had a problem with any right down to the battery lawn mower
  13. I’ve used the plastic dual sized nozzle for years cheap and throw away but I use the one with a right angled outlet as it fits so neatly in the vertical rubber pipe coming up from the chassis and the horizontal pump inlet pipe making it tidy and easily checked for cleanliness
  14. Remember the Vitesse Radiator is relatively tall and narrow so there might be room immediately to the inside of the overriders, without effecting air flow too much.
  15. grease in the calipers or brake fluid in the grease gun your going to have to clean something out! The calipers were being stripped down for a full overhaul anyway.

    Car covers.

Over here I use a Taiwanese made external cover sold by an outfit called Autotechnica the medium size is perfect for the Dolly Sprint. The cover is embossed nylon/plastic with a fleece lining there’s two ties from each side that go under the car to keep it on the car there’s two air vents just under the drip rail each side. Cost around $150 and with our sunny conditions they last about 18 months there guaranteed 1 year. There’ve never got wet underneath the cover fleece always dry and no condensation in the car.
  17. With my Escort Type 14’s I had to revert to using a grease gun and grease to get the old pistons moving/out obviously one piston moved before the other so it had to be clamped until the other started to move The grease gun (Wanner) develops higher pressure than the air compressor. Cleaning out all the grease is long winded though.
  18. Interesting here dogs aren’t/weren’t allowed in any shops but I’ve noticed recently Bunning’s are allowing dogs into their warehouse style shops and they usually have a cafe area The rots setting in
  19. The screw had come out on it’s own and I could see the oil pumping out the rocker shaft was buggered! I’d travelled quite a distance with the screw out. you should be ok to run it a minute or soo but remember to screw the screw back in tight
  20. It’s like the rose nuts holding the switch’s to the dash threads appear to of different fathers and mothers all over the place!
  21. Temporally remove the countersunk screw from the rear of the shaft oil comes out quite quickly, How do Iknow it came out on my 2500TC around 78 didn’t fall down the pushrod holes but bugge**d the shaft! Remember to replace the screw
  22. Wouldn’t want to cross the young lady middle centre definitely has a determined look on her face and raised stick!
  23. My elder cousin fell for that one putting a new seal on top of the old one on his near new Mini Cooper didn’t get around the block before it had pumped all the oil out if I remember he sold the car shortly after and brought a Midget
  24. Early 60’s Dad had a Merc 300SE with mech fuel injection the elect fan cut in switch failed and the engine overheated the next day we did a run to my uncles at Stratford the car only ran well at a certain rev range not too slow nor fast when we got to Stratford my uncle knew the local Merc agent who immediately diagnosed a blocked fuel filter changed it and the car immediately ran well. The agent said the. Lead had boiled out of the fuel blocking the filter which was the size of an oil filter.
