  1. My solution was to use a Rivnut upside down thro the bottom or window frame bracket, required a slightly larger hole but as the rivet is compressed no movement occurs, I used a steel rivnut not aluminum
  2. interesting my Mk2 Vitesse has no internal clip under the bulkhead ledge the assembly is held in place by the shoulder on the cable outer, the nipple on the cable inner end being held in the organ pipe throttle pedal, and the carb return spring creating the tension. It's been that way since I've had it (1970) & it's a late 68 car. When you remove the throttle return spring it all falls apart the nipple disconnects from the pedal so you have to remember to fit it before reassembly of the throttle lever/spring. I believe some models had a clip to hold the nipple onto the throttle pedal to stop this disconnecting,
  3. Offer still open if you need a spare just let me know
  4. yes it'll take around 2 weeks across the world with Covid Peter
  5. Cliff if your stuck in getting a good replacement I have a surplus original in good condition less the two wedge pistons (missing/lost) but has the tapered threaded adjuster that I'd send over to you free, just to keep another Trumpie going.
  6. very poor design and construction, why would any competent designer cast a cheese head bolt in when a tapped stud would have provided extra meat and been so much stronger, trouble is with PRC goods your the tester! I'll be interested to see if Rimmer's advise there've had other cases! Fortunately I recently replaced the daughters Spits ones during a service with a couple of rebuilt old originals & the removed ones have now been rebuilt as spares for the fleet or if called upon to help other local club members
  7. Wish I had the expertise to sharpen drills luckily I can buy packs of six of one size so those I break frequently can be easily replaced interestingly I brought a set of imperial drills a couple of years ago and they seem to stay sharper than the run of the mill metrics but the break shatter easily. The imperials also go up in 1/64 increments
  8. Be a little careful with the mirror anchor plate my daughters original Sprint around 1994 was so equipped it distorted the sound proofing on the inside of the outer door skin trapping water and we got a rust hole about 2 by 1.5 in where the mirror was mounted on the door I had to cut it neatly out and fit a replacement part perfectly fitted in then sandwiched by an inner piece of steel and a modified mirror plinth, stood the passage of time well!
  9. any modified captive nuts could be redrilled and tapped back to original imperial sizes using Heli Coil or similar rethreads, which uses a stainless steel thread inserts.
  10. newspapers for fish'n crips wrapping, scouts bottle drives picking up old bottles, and the list gets longer!
  11. Doug your right I've just re-read the Lumenition Magnetronic instructions, where the ignition supply to the coil thro the ballast wire can be connected to the coil via ballast and non-resisted ie full 12volts to the ignition module, so the 1.5 ohm coil can still be used. Thinking back I couldn't be bothered trying to find the 12volt ign supply in the Sprints wiring loom before the ballast wire so I took the easy way out and disconnected/bypassed the ballast and replaced the nom 6 volt coil with a 12volt 3 ohm as I'd read somewhere the 12v supply gave improved ignition, spark and better performance?? The 6v or 1.5ohm coil was failing anyway leaking oil.
  12. Please correct me if I'm wrong if using electronic Ignition (Accuspark or Magnetronic) you need the full 12 volts ie a 12v (3ohm) coil and a 12v ignition feed to the coil, the ballasted 6v pink white/wire needs disconnecting and replacing with ign 12v. Well that's what my Vitesse, Spit Mk2, original 12v systems and Sprint old 6v ballasted system bypassed with 12v and 3ohm Bosch coil operate at.
  13. I converted my Mk2 Vitesse using the Teglerizer (Isuzu Trooper) method with an Oz Isuzu Rodeo HT Starter picked up new for under $150 vs over $400 for a bespoke Vitesse supplied one. Haven't done the daughters Spitfire as I think things might be a little tighter ie passengers side starter has to be mounted through 180 degrees. The Vitesse location is easier and easily cleared the steering column, but I had to machine down the alloy spacer fortunately I have access to a machine shop (that's why I've got 7 stitch's in the back of my right hand at the moment, Blonde Moment!!) .
  14. could a very short length of thin wall steel (exhaust) pipe with the same ID as the pulley inner boss OD be driven on to put the cast iron and keyway back in compression be a fix! Thats how compression fittings on plastic pipe fittings are reinforced
  15. If you want to stay Standard Triumph go Standard Atlas Van pure gutless! I think there were some campervan conversions there were some weird conversions wooden shed like structure made a fleet of mobile church’s for Africa I believe!
  16. Talk about clearing out houses when Dads old Sec had to go into an aged care home I had to clean her house out, she was like a big sister to me only about 15 years older than me and when I was growing up I think she attended more teacher parent interviews than my parents who were always away. She was with dad for about 40 years in England, Canada, Australia, England, Canada, USA, England and retired back here in Aus with the parents, she had kept her Aussie house from her first stint here. Her Australian husband was a pilot with the RAF flying Spitfires, after one sortie his plane was so badly shot up he had to ditch into the English Channel, it was a couple of hours before he was rescued, unfortunately it really affected him and he would never talk about his experiences, he was heavily decorated and as an Aussie pilot with the RAF he was fortunate enough to be selected to spend a weekend with Churchill at Chequers Anyway whilst clearing out the garage I sourced a lot of fantastic tools her very hands on DIY husband had acquired thro his engineering life, but I found this Macintosh 10in dia tin full of what looked like Starter Gun Caps, but in reality they were detonator caps used on the railway to warn working crews of coming trains they were put on the tracks and exploded when the train ran over them. There would have been a couple thousand caps in the rusty old tin so I took them to the nearest police station to hand them in, they weren't keen on taking them, so I rang my close friend ( and fellow Triumph fan) who was the very senior officer in charge of the SE suburbs of Melb told him what I had then handed the phone to the unhelpful policeman over the counter you could hear the spray from 100 feet away, so I departed quickly without tin before they could think of something to book me with!
  17. I have the same as Pete L and have had it since the late 60's cost a lot relatively in those times. Adjusting the throat annulus gives good results, A friend brought similar off fleabay a couple of years ago & his is a direct copy of mine now made in Taiwan.
  18. There's a Herald Convertible hardtop currently on ebay starting a 100GBP item No. 184796866417
  19. ditto Colin I have the sq headed magnetic sump plugs in all our Triumphs even the 76 Sprint, but it's gearbox is a magnetic hex head, Leyland inconsistency strikes again!
  20. I've found Carby Clean a very effective cleaner don't know if it affects varnish, I use a local product called "Fuel Doctor" to keep the fuel fresh and keep the tank & fuel system clean, its produced by a Co that professionally clean and protect garage storage tanks.
  21. Bunnings is very big here in Aus in fact a household name they do carry a lot but not Auto stuff, we also have 2 smaller hardware chains and we also had the US Masters chain who came in big to knock Bunnings off but failed miserably and went defunct pity as they carried a lot of auto hardware split pins circlips clevis pins etc of all sizes in fact drawers and drawers of all sorts of mech fittings very handy and I stocked up when they had a fire sale. Bunnings original cheap but very good battery drill equipment wasGMC but something happened and they were out it’s now Ozito (5yr replacement warranty) I understand GMC are now in Europe, Masters sold a rebadged GMC range and the son stocked up with a full range of their battery tools when they closed and replacement batteries I’ve sourced from France for him.
  22. Over here sans batteries and charger there called skins. Buying new DeWalt drill and impact skins separately off fleabay then charger and two lithium batteries cost under $200.
  23. Yes I have one never thought of using the impact, always used a std nut to lock stop the ball rotating and lock the taper down, then replaced it with the locknut
  24. Thanks everyone I’ll use them on the Sprint, the only issue now is finding a 10mm dia fine thread 1mm pitch nut to use temporarily to pull and lock the taper so I can then replace it with the lock nut. There’s always something the Bolt Bar. Will have them so I need to think what other nuts and bolts I want as It’s a min $10 purchase.
  25. They are equipped with grease nipples so frequent greasing should help longevity, the boots well I’ve found replacement boots don’t last so that could be a problem! The second set I have are Stanpart originals but sealed for life I was saving those for the daughters Spit or the Vitesse. Even after years of storage the boots on both sets appear to be very good with no signs of deterioration.
