Badwolf
Ok, give it a go. It should be a success as long as you provide a fully personable/customisable skin, every single feature that every IP provider can possible offer from all providers, it must be totally intuitive, instantly understandable icons, accept transfer of exiting threads from other forums, instant access to all threads, a guarantee of no outages for any reason, no downtime, no loss of information, all security and other updates fully checked before release, no trolls, and a 24 hour admin service 365 days (plus leap years) a year..... All for no charge. That is just the start of what I would want in my forum to suit just me. Others will want, well other features. There is no one size fits all on the internet. Do all this and you might get a couple of takers .Then I can get on with reinventing those four/five round thingies on my Triumph. One final thing, make sure that there is no breach of copyright and get approval from the TSSC to use their correctly spelt trading name and artworks.

There has been a real kickback about another website where much of the page is wasted. Clive-For some weird reason, its not all pages. Also the site keeps loading on my tablet set to 'desk top view' which immediately brings up the stats. I agree that a simple 'show stats' button on the top bar would be better, but then, what stats do you want it to show? Like me, probably none of these but then customising the content of the stats so that they suit everyone shouldn't be a problem.....should it!!?? By the way, with my settings at 'mobile view' holding my tablet upright, the stats go away.

Agreed, WHEN I can find where the code that puts the box where it is I will remove it - BUT it's not in any of the top level config files and appears to be buried in the operating system. ANYONE that goes for the latest IP board software will have the same problem, its NOT unique to the TSSC configuration.

Just found a tab which tells me not only who is online, but what they are currently reading. Under the 'browse' menu Yeh, found that a long time ago. Quite creepy, It generally looks like there's a few people on-line commenting, but press the tab and there's dozens of them, just sitting, watching, waiting. 😬 What do they want?!! Chris A
Me again. Just to say I really do miss the option of going straight to the first unread comment on a thread. This is a very useful option. On this thread, for example, this morning I had the options of either going to the start of the subject or going to the last posted message. Going to the last posted message meant I had to backtrack to last nights and this mornings postings to get to where I was the last time I logged on, it even needed me to go back a page. If the 'first unread' option can be reintroduced I'll be a happy chappie. No I won't I'll still be a grumpy old git but at least on this forum I'll pretend not to be 😁

I habitually open in new tab (and do all the unread topics in one hit) so I don't know whether these were "go straight to the wrong place" or "go to the right place but then scroll" (which I've definitely seen on other forums as images are loaded). That's probably Firefox misbehaving, though.

So that is what the dot and star are for! The star also points out that I have been following that thread. 🙄
Badwolf
I am still just clicking on the 'time' and it takes me straight to the last post. The line across the last thread read I find useful so I don't get the deja vu feeling that I have read this before.. when I have done!! Also, Kevin, found the answer to constantly getting the 'desktop' view, there is a setting in Opera which I missed to give the choice of view as a standard. Badwolf
A thought wandered through my tiny deranged mind while I was getting fed up working on my hard top. The layout of the pages us set up for use mainly on a mobile phone, which would be normally held in vertical format. All the stats and wasted space is simply padding as it, on the whole, disapears when I turn my tablet to upright. If I am correct, and all you IT specialists out there will probably shoot my theory down, this is probably due to simplifying the coding to make things load faster. Pity I can't rotate my PC screen that easily.
Anglefire
Responsive is the term used. Moves the layout around to suit the device being viewed on. my iPhone doesn’t have any padding whichever way I look at the site. But is very clear and laid out well.
KevinR
Theme "TSSC 3", which you can select from the small button at the bottom of the screen gets rid of the sidebar with the stats - It was a very crude edit, so I don't know if I've "damaged" anything else. With the settings I've now got, you get almost the entire screen width available. I will continue playing with the settings, so expect to see more changes, and please report if I've broken anything else.
Badwolf
Looks OK now on my PC. Will check on tablet later. Keep up the excellent work, thanks
NonMember
When I selected the TSSC 3 theme I got an "installation error" page that told me to make changes to permissions on a Unix path (and suggested a Unix file mode) - which is odd, because I'm on Windows at the moment - and then broke the whole forum for several minutes. I seem to still be on the default theme now that it's back and I'm a little reluctant to try again.

How strange - I've just e all of the stuff I haven't read, and the top posting on the list caused the same "Installation error", but all the other threads were OK. I need to wait for another new thread at the top of the list and see if it does it again. The edit I did to remove the sidebar was very brutal ! Anglefire
I have to confess that the width is just fine on my desktop- but then I have a 27" screen and 2560 pixies to spread it all over so a small loss to the right is hardly an issue - but I accept not everyone has a screen that big! Badwolf
Just got the installation screen again. Tried to back button to previous post viewed but it put me in a loop. Closed the link, went in again but still got the installation screen. Got around it by going in with a different pre-set to open and then my normal bookmark link. KevinR
The "Installation Screen" problem seems to have disappeared, so all well there. Something I have found another default setting that that could be useful. As you know, clicking on the big black dot or star next to a topic takes you to the first unread comment, and clicking on the time takes you to the latest comment on a tread. You can also select how clicking on the thread title behaves : a) Take me to the comments I havent read b) Take me to the beginning c) Take me to the latest comment You set this by editing your "Account settings" - drop down in the top right corner with your screen name. Then on the left hand side, select "Content View Behaviour" and pick the option you require.
Badwolf
Found it, set it... And.. If you set it to take you to the first unread post, and you have actually read everything, it takes you to the last post on the last page.
