Colin Lindsay
This one of mine (gearbox) came second in a Tina Turner hairstyle lookalike contest a few years back... you can see from the threads narrowing towards the top that it's tapered. avivalasvegas
Took an image of the discs and everyone’s favourite green coloured pads while the tyres were replaced with new Continentals. To me, the discs are in great shape and the pads are close to new. That said, the braking is just as abysmal as on the first day I drove the car. The plot thickens... Pete Lewis
the only good thing about green stuff is you can clean the wheels easy, but wont stop the car what on earth made you fit them ....far far away from a favourite Pete
dougbgt6
I'm confused! I thought we'd made convincing arguments for Mintex 1144s right at the beginning of this thread? Has AVLV fitted the horrendous Green Stuff pads? Or is he saying Mintex look green? I don't recall them being green, more blue grey? And, it may be a trick of the light, but I wouldn't be happy with those discs. Discs are surprisingly cheap I'd change 'em. Doug
avivalasvegas
Sorry, I should been more clear. I haven’t fitted the EBC pads - the previous owner did. I’ve ordered the Mintex pads and plan to resurface the discs if possible.
johny
Not worth skimming discs as Doug says new are pretty cheap unless going for something fancy. However I did manage to sell my used Greenstuff pads on Ebay to recover a bit of the cost👍

Except, they make no difference to braking unless your racing, hill climbing, or other intense on the edge driving thing. And nobody tells you they're noisy. I put them on and took them off within a week, couldn't stand it! So, stick to bog standard Doug
avivalasvegas
Yes, drilled slotted rotors really won’t aesthetically add to a car with Dunlop 5.5X13 wheels either.

Pete Lewis
best place for greens is around the turkey green stuff experience in the early life with the Vit6 was a straight line interpretation of a roundabout well we missed the Bus , when hot no friction at all its an absolute rubbish must have you must not have Pete

It's been mentioned before, but bedding in the Mintex pads according to the manufacturer's instructions makes a big difference. Nigel
trigolf
Without starting the Green Stuff debate again, I'm intrigued.... Many years ago at Stafford I bought a set of EBC Green Stuff Kevlar pads from Canleys stall. I put them in the loft, for when finally needed, and forgot all about them. I'm planning to replace the front pads soon, but have got some Mintex 1144's to go on as I don't want the pain that some people have gone thorough with rubbish brakes ! Question - If Green Stuff pads are that bad, how come they're still sold by reputable specialists, such as Canleys etc ? Gav

Anything in particular you wish to worry about? I assume you intend using the H frame radio aperture to fit some gauges? The usual - air, electricity, vacuum and/ or water. I was hoping a "factory look" option existed as I am trying to keep the car looking as original as possible, easier said than done. I was able to pull this off with the Classic Mini to some extent!
Clive
If you really must (can you tell I am not a fan of extra gauges) voltmeter, oil pressure, oil temperature. Vacuum gauge I would avoid as you need to constantly look at it while driving so you know how far you have pressed the accelerator. And you can't look at it and the rad at the same time. I guess you could get a sheet of steel/ali cut, then spray with wrinkle finish paint or whatever. The radio blanking plates are rare, though somebody was making some plastic versions? Of course, it is a good place to put a radio or whatever.

dougbgt6
Vacuum gauge is a must! Passengers are fascinated, particularly the ladies. I like to watch it swinging one way and the other knowing that I'm using more fuel than I should. Also you can use it to set the timing.
