  1. Talking about the water pump return pipe, I was going to replace mine with a stainless version but it appears to have rusted into the water pump housing. Tried gently to remove it but I have worries that I might do damage if I force it. No obvious leakage at the moment so left well alone. Any ideas how to shift it without the need for a total rebuild in that area?
  2. Don't do what I did when fitting led bulbs to the dials. Put my hand under the dash to get at the speedo, twisted my wrist to get better access, couldn't get my hand out. The more I struggled upside down etc etc, the more my hand swelled up, the worse it got. Got out eventually, but the fire brigade could have had fun with that one.
  3. I'm sure that my spit is wearing the quartz lamp fittings off an old Toyota, including the back reflector bowl
  4. I believe that a couple of the rubber spaces under the body on my spit were actually cut and shaped from an old tyre but am not 100% sure, it was a long time ago. I have found a couple of shaped tyre pieces in one of my spares boxes though.
  5. Well done Roger. A triumph for the consumer (sorry). Sorry about some of my more cynical replies but I gave been in similar places to you wth suppliers, but with not quite as disasterous possibilities.
  6. ...and watch out for the nylon washer plug thingy. After dropping it a few times they fall into two pieces, one of which disappears somewhere into a multi dimensional garage blackhole forever and you are reduced to trying to cut down a small rawlplug to make do. Don't try this near grass/gravel etc... same rules apply.
  7. Oh yessss.... I had awful trouble with mine, along with the plastic connector half way down. Inside the door(see Pete's comments in 'nose to tail' thread). As memory serves, the nylon washer goes into the hole, the bent bit of the linkage goes into the nylon, the washer of the clip goes on the nylon on the opposite side to the linkage and clips over the linkage to hold it all together... I think!! Afraid that's from memory, afraid I'm not takingit out again to check!! Sorry. Worthwhile straightenjng all the linkage rods and lubricating while you're at it. The whole door linkage (assume gt6 is the same as spitfire?) is an absolute nightmare (see other posts on thread regarding slashed wrists etc).
  8. We towed the spit home with a tow rope. Me driving the towing car. About 500yds from home there was this almighty bang and a cloud of blue smoke. The mechanic in the spit had dropped it in gear and let out the clutch and it fired up. The damage it must have done?? We were both surprised, one that the clutch hadn't ceased and two that the car actually fired up.
  9. When I have sold stuff, I have weighed the item in it's packing and included it in the description. Always used recycled packing too. Never had any problems.
  10. It's an old trick to make your money on the postage. Fleabay and other suppliers have been doing it for years. I was charged £5.00 carriage by a supplier to send a part to me, which I sent back as rubbish, but only paid £2.50 via Royal Mail.
  11. I had dreadful problems with my heater, but that was mostly down to the 'mongrel' nature of the engine not having the correct plumbing connections, years of crud in the heater and an air lock in the pipes at the highest point. Sorted now thanks to contributors here (see help given in 'Nose to Tail' thread)
  12. Colin - I think its an absolute disgrace that you get stung for stupid carriage costs, that's if they will even deliver to you. What is the problem taking stuff across the water. I have even had things deivered from the USA carriage free an the Alantic is a little bigger.
  13. Andy-Yes the price is excellent direct from Classic but I am not desparate yet. Current oil has only done about 300miles so can afford to wait 'til 'black friday'. Every little helps, as they say. These days I just collect stuff that is not urgent in my fleabay basket and buy it when the special discount days come up. Would have saved £38 on the last promo weekend if the shocks hadn't been 'out of stock'.
  14. The oil and shocks wern't included in the August bank holiday fleabay promotion.. gutted!! Not desparate, so in my basket awaiting the next promo day, neither was anything else on my list. Not to worry, I did well out of the 15% off promo mentioned earlier in the thread. That was great.. site wide.
  15. Absolutely brilliant. Thanks Kevin.
  16. I would find it useful to be left open ended and I know that Karl (Bordfunker) updates his thread title as he adds items to his own restoration thread (I pinched his idea to use on mine) but if no one else wants to use the edit feature like that, then there's not much point in changing it for 2 people. I could just do with changing my heading to a generic one befiore its made permanent. It is a handy feature for correcting typos when you spot them weeks later!!
  17. Just interesting that one function goes in and another goes out. I only mention it as both functions are useful to me and are available together on other forums. I assume that the software is bought in and tailored to suit the club/company etc. Perhaps its the 'edit' function that is only available until the next post is entered. I haven't tested that theory yet.
  18. Kevin. Is it possible to combine the 'edit' function, with the 'delete' function, under the 'options' header, or even add the 'delete' into the 'edit'? There does appear to be something of a time limit now before the 'edit' function disappears, or maybe there is something that I am missing. Can you advise please.
  19. Amazinly, this has just come back up on fleabay.. https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-Oils-Heritage-20W50-Engine-Oil-4-x-5-litres-Not-VR-1/163218624163?hash=item2600968ea3:g:fQUAAOSw5VtaAtKd 4 for £75.00 inc carriage direct from 'classic oils'. Hope it qualifies for the 10% off bank holiday discount! Richard - Stock up now!!
  20. Well done Kevin. Is there now a time limit on editing posts. I spotted a typo in one of mine from a couple of days ago, but couldn't correct it. The only options available were 'quote' and 'options>delete' This means I can no longer edit the heading on my Spitfire thead.
  21. Bind the handles in red leather or is that another web site??
  22. Richard - Thanks for the info, up North, Manchester. I was going to get 4 cans while the fleabay 10% offer was on, but I can get it direct from the Townsend site. Not really that much saving when you work it out. Not opening the 'oil can of worms' again, but glad that you rate this stuff. I have read pretty much all the 'discussions' on the forum about types of oils and felt that this was highly rated without the huge price tag for a car which is lucky to do 1500 miles a year, and probably leaves quite a lot of that oil in the garage floor drip tray!!!

    Membership fees

I was recently quoted £40 per hour by a plumber for his experience and skills (you can see where this is going already). Garages and bodyshops are in the same league if not higher. My membership fees are value for money for this forum alone with the experience and skills that I have mercilessly plundered over the past years. Yes I have whinged, moaned and offered very little in return, but for less than 2 hours of plumbers time, I have obtained the help and guidance to do things myself which I would of had to pay someone to do. I gave also had a laugh, hurled insults and enjoyed the repartee of people who I don't know, but value highly. They may not agree with many of my views, but I would not want to be without them. My subs also support the non-members on this site who are welcomed without prejudice, with open arms in the same way that I am, for help and support. Yes, it may not suit some people, but it sure as hell suits me!!!
  24. Does anyone have any information or have bought any of this off fleabay recently There used to be several entries, one being Fuzz Townsend's listing, but at the moment (8/2018) there only appears to be two sellers both asking £18.00 plus £6.00 carriage. Could some of the entries have been pulled due to the 10% off offer currently on over the bank holiday weekend.
